Berlin? Nico never lived in Berlin after the 1950s! This "interviewer" didn't have a clue, and Nico's laughing at his cluelessness... She was in Manchester 'cause her management was there, and lived in Brixton, London, up to 1986. Then she did the Behind The Iron Curtain tour in Eastern Europe (1987) and then to Ibiza, where she owned her own place and where she looked after her mother who was ill, in 1988...
The interviewer seems clueless, and is quite inarticulate. If you are from around Lancashire you could probably understand him, even with his "ums" and "ers", but a non-native English speaker or even an American would have trouble following his accent. Plus there's his defensive comments after Nico says that's not a big audience which he takes as an affront and calls her a creep (unless he is referring to himself). She may be a bit stoned too, but she seems honest in her replies.
i don't think he's calling her a creep. He seems to mutter something (which i can't make out) right there, followed by "that would be me" & an embarrassed laugh. nico seems relatively unfazed by him overall lol.
Thanks for this clip! I love how at 1:10 she's been asked a new question but she's still answering the previous one. Not one to rush it seemed.
Is it me or has Nico never been interviewed by anyone who wasn't nervous or self-conscious in her presence? Was her status not enough to draw press of a higher calibre or was she really that intimidating?
the mainstream press (aside from mags like Rolling Stone, Creem, etc.) mostly viewed her as something of a strung-out joke during this period. the more fervent of the underground press & public, tho, viewed her with a sort of awe, due to her Velvets association, her once staggering beauty, & her outrageously artistic sporadic solo records. her bored but aristocratic demeanor, lackadaisical eye contact followed by piercing glances, & occasional sweet-toned comment = an intimidating mixture.
I like this clip very much. Nico was extremely underrated in he lifetime.

I really like this sentence: "That's a kind of light entertainment, which I don't care for."

She (Nico) sounds a bit snobby and stoned. This is priceless! I'm not knocking anything, I assure you. Great job on this video.
