@Runaholism lol trust me there's lots more to see; the trailer didn't reveal too much, unlike some that I've seen in the last few months(mainly Straw Dogs and Dream House) Its a great film with great performances, especially Michael Sheen, who plays the guy with cerebral palsy; It's definitely worth checking out. I gotta make a note to netflix it myself, because I haven't seen it since it was at the movies a few years ago(for all of like 2 weeks)

Michael Sheen was so endearing... I enjoyed this movie on several levels.. its message about Richard Pimentel's life's work, about folks with disabilities, and its message that if someone doesn't love you, the best thing to do is learn to do what that someone couldn't do... love yourself. The soundtrack was the other superbe part of the movie. So many appropriate songs from the 60s! Some of the cream of the crop!

Great movie! It was very touching and heart warming. My friends brother has Cerebral Palsy. Michael Sheen paints a very actual picture of how debilitating and tragic this disability is.

This movie was the worst movie of 2007. It had some of the worst dialogue I have heard in a long time, plus the deaf part felt ignored (don't ask me why). It made use of the crappy cliche Vietnam sequence, Ron Livingston was HORRIBLE, and it was not inspirational. The only thing bearable was Michael Sheen. DON'T SEE THIS!

an explosion from combat (during a war started by none other than well intending French and assumed by JFK) caused hearing loss in ADA Architect played by Ron Livingston. All he could hear was a high pitched tone thus "music within", or was it the inner music he will here later in life. I don't recall anything politically offensive to either party in the movie. ADA was signed by Bush I.

Because he is deaf, and you can't here music when you are deaf. But his case he is a remarkably skilled lip reader, so it is almost like he is not deaf.

Thank you for reminding us about the plight of the disabled. The American Disability Act was historical. We still need to address discrimination against people with Mental disabilities. Still today discrimination exists against individuals young and old alike that have mental disabilities that includes ADHD and learning disabilities. Look at the drop out rate of Urban kids in high schools and you'll be amazed.

Excellent movie. I really wish it had gotten more publicity when it was in theatres. I'm a big fan of Michael Sheen; otherwise I wouldn't known about this film. He gave a great performance and got me interested in knowing more about Art Honeyman's story.

As for Pimentel talking on the phone, there's a whole range of hearing loss. I've known deaf people who could use the phone with amplification but couldn't hear ordinary speech--hearing loss depends on both volume & frequency. It seems tinnitis (ringing in the ears) was also a factor for Pimentel. I worked at National Technical Institute for the Deaf for several years, during the time when the ADA was passed, so I found this story esp. intriguing. BTW, I never met anyone who "learned" to hear!
