Holy shit. This is great. Keep working, too many have tried and failed what you are doing and with this progress you will finish and be my hero. I REFUSE to let you give up, I know you probably get this a lot but it would mean a lot to me if you finished, and I know you will. YOU CAN DOOOO ITTTTTT
This is amazing, is there any chance of you uploading an update or have you not found any time to continue with this since your last update? Also, if the lack of updates is just because this is so time consuming that not much has been done since this then I understand that, it's a one man project, after all. Is there any way to help if you don't know all that much about programming?
@FreshwaterKangaroo I get asked that a lot actually. What I think you can if you are not an experienced programmer is to find someone who is and refer them to the project if you're a people person, or if you're a designer-type person then you can make awesome mods in TES3CS and Project Aedra will support your awesome mods when it is finished. :)
Hey, i can't get it started i extracted everything to my data files and when it starts up it says Additional: Error opening file C:\M\Data Files\Morrowind.bsa err=3!
Will the rain be realistic? I mean, it always moved with you and it rained under trees, buildings etc. Will it now be like in other modern games? Great work though! I'm really looking forward.
@dragongeo2 is Morrowind Open Source or something? Surely an engine re-write using all the assets from the original game could get under Bethesda's skin? Keep up the good work though :) Looking great
@Gamepadvideos Morrowind is not open-source, but Project Aedra is open-source. Neither are the assets for it. The reason that Project Aedra has dodged a takedown notice from BethSoft so far is because we don't copy or modify or claim ownership of any of BethSoft's assets. In fact, you are *required* to own a legal copy of Morrowind before Aedra will even run on your computer.
Apparently I need to look into this more; a floating skeleton doesn't mean much to me at the moment, and I'm quite interested in whatever it is you're doing.
he is making a complete re-write of the morrowind engine, to be more compatible and mor epowerful then the origional, what does this mean for you? well it means the game should run faster, it should look better, eliminate crashes in the origional game, support for widescreen nativley and it will support native multiplayer not through a mod but actual multiplayer
Amazing progress with this. Its very inspirational. Out of recent discussions in the Morrowind forums it occurred to me to ask weather you plan to implement a friendly means of using Gamepads on this project.
@IDontDoNumbers Yeah one of these days I'm gonna get around to adding gamepad support, at least for things like standard joysticks and XBOX360 controllers. As for more exotic controllers, I'm not sure if that'll happen.
with multiplayer how much will be rendered server side? e.g will NPC's be in the same place on different computers or just players, and will the weather be the same etc?
@Jamman88888 The server doesn't "render" anything per-se. In fact, the server doesn't need to have a video card installed at all in order to work efficiently. In Aedra's netmodel, the server simulates everything from NPC actions to projectile trajectories to active scripts and also the in-game weather. So yes, all of that and more will be synchronized between the players' computers.
@Razorlvirus Yes and no. Aedra by its nature replaces MGE and MWSE, but it's certainly doable to append the new MWSE scripting APIs into the Aedra scripting engine.
Dude, you are so awesome, I always hated the Oblivion engine, it felt too... soft, I'm glad someone is taking this on and remaking the wonderful atmosphere of Morrowind,
I really wish I could help but I'm not a programmer (atleast not anymore) and was an amateur at it anyway, if you need an artist, concept or otherwise just message me and I would be really glad to help, it would be like working on Morrowind 2 lol.
nice work, i think it would be cool if in project aedra game could detect player's camera rotation angle X Y Z ( because in standard morrowind there is only one rotation - Z, you can only use player->getangle z ) it would be a great help for some morrowind mod makers.
Great Progress, sir. It seems like you'll be done before the beginning of the next school year with a convenient beta. I've got a friend with probably the same C++/C# programming as you. I told the guy about your work, so if you want a second hand for whatever, I'll see if I can convince him to assist. Also I've almost got enough money to transform my old PC into a server. It'll be bare minimum until I work up enough money later on in life to make it legitimately professional for under 500$.
@SadisticPenguinOfAND Yes it uses FMOD, the tougher part was linking it all up to Morrowind's weather data and going through SNDG and SOUN chunks and making it all work with physics generating the ripples and SFX. And then fighting FRAPS to get it all to record :P
For a moment I thought you had implemented Character nipples.

Callius360 4 months ago
@Callius360 In order to fix this, open up your Morrowind_aux.ini file and change the two lines that say:
ESMDirectory=C:\M\Data Files\
MorrowindDirectory=C:\M\
Change them to your actual Morrowind Data Files folder and your Morrowind install directory. For most people, this should be:
C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind\
and
C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind\Data Files\
dragongeo2 4 months ago
@dragongeo2 By the way this annoyance will be fixed in Aedra r153 so you do not have to do that anymore.

Okay, so, you're creating a new engine which will read all the game's data, or am I totally wrong? Anyway it sounds very interesting!

The rain looks pretty light. I had to look close to notice it. Maybe make the rain particles more dense? Could just be Youtube though.
Still a great job regardless.
ancient122 8 months ago
@ancient122 Just like in regular Morrowind, you can make the rain particles as dense or as sparse (or off) as you want.
dragongeo2 8 months ago
@dragongeo2
Would this only be client-side though, and nobody else would see my rain settings online?
ancient122 8 months ago
@ancient122 Correct. If you changed your client's rain "heaviness" settings, nobody else would see the thicker rain but you.
