Hearing Girl Talk's stuff is like the first time I heard the NES chiptune remix of Wu Tang's C.R.E.A.M. (titled 8-bit diagrams) on 8itcollective, or the "Crack a Bottle" chipmix on the same site. @afglbc7 he uses a adobe audition, and AudioMulch. Ableton Live is also pretty good for making mashups

he doesn't use separate vocal/instrumental tracks either. he is so ridiculously good at programming he uses the complete songs, and cancels out the surrounding sounds from the samples that he uses. something that sets him apart greatly from a technical standpoint from most all other mash up artists. the man is a biomedical engineer after all.
