Indonesian usualy used dried ketapang leaf for cupang / betta antibiotic. So it makes the water brown. In their natural habitat (padi field,swamp etc), dry Ketapang leafs falls to the water (where the bettas live) and make the water brown. It makes betta healthy. But I don't know what this guy are using for the water :)

And you'll be surprised to see the natural habitat of bettas. They are murky and low O2 (like muddy swamp). That's is why bettas breathe not using their gills like normal fish.
