@Vocalallusive The asthma medicine is now/soon free to use for ANYONE that wants to. It's been proven it has no beneficial effect except for people that have cold-asthma which unfortunately many skiers have due to massive inhaling in -20degrees etc.

This is decided by FIS, the International Skiing Federation after massive research on the medication.

When I did answer SawViking I used "cheat" in reference to the law makers and not to the individual sportsman. The underlining point is that the law makers have made it so that somebody can drug themself and get an edge against the other competitors which go against the most basic principle of competition, thus cheating.

One may argue that they get asthma from enormeous amount of training, but is that really a ethical accepted excuse to use drugs? Everyone can by hard training manoeuvre oneself into asthma sickness. Do we really want this trick to be open for use? Do we really want the elite og cross country skiers to be sick?

If you have 99% lung capacity, there is no effect. However if you only have 80% lung capacity, it brings you up to normal. So there would not be any point to use it if you don't have asthma. And don't you think that they get properly checked to see if they actually have asthma? It's not really something they can fake.

I know that asthma sickness is by order of magnitude more common amoung cross country skiers than population as a whole. Asthma drugs are illegal to use in most sport events unless you got an exemption. Most skiers winning medals are using legal asthma medicine. Thus, no need what so ever to harvest more information to get to a precise conclusion: Asthma medisine is a legal way to win ski events by drugs. QED

Actually, the reason why so many Cross country skiers use asthma medications is because of during high intensity trainings in cold temperatures can cause allergies such as asthma, as the lungs have some intolerance to cold air to some extent. Since northern countries will experience colder climates, there will most likely be more asthma medication users.

Plus: a person who doesnt have asthma, using the medication, will not have any effect on its athletic ability.

He gives his flowers (which he got at the prize handout) to an Ethiopian (or something) who just arrives at finish, like one hour after him. Never ever has a norwegian winter athlete been proven as using drug enhancing medications. In fact I'm pretty sure no swede has either. Athletes has a very high standing in Norway. The difference between many other countries is that there's a zero tolerance for doping in Norway and Sweden. In many other countries they can just continue where they left off after their quaranteen is over. This would never happen in Norway.
