  • un mago! un grande! non ci arriverà mai nessuno!

  • thaanks for the great videos eh. rock on

  • Wes Montgomery was, and still is, greatly unrecognized and underappreciated as the great genius guitar player he was. Many, including greats like George Benson, have since got ideas from him. He was one of the great self-taught guitarists as was another great Stevie Ray Vaughn. If anyone really wants to get into Wes I suggest listening to "Bumpin" and "Bumpin On Sunset"

I have always loved the arrangements on some of Wes's albums and if Mr Keepnews had a hand in it then he has true talent!

  • Wes and Django rule.

  • Wes is the best jazz musician i ever hearded since bird and dizzy

  • What song is at 2:44? I've been searching everywhere for it!!!!!!!!

  • @yserrant 'four on six'. i recommend you buy the album mentioned, it's on the record. one of wes' most popular tunes.

  • @yserrant

That number is '4 On 6'.

    viktor -- Cottage Grove

  • @yserrant search Wes Montgomery - Four On Six

  • wes is god

  • Lenny Breau! A great genius! Like Wes Montgomery, but never got big sadly, he influenced so many jazz guitarists, for he also did something on the guitar that no one could do or even knew was possible.

  • Wes didn't go to school so he played unlike anyone who came out of school.

Now they're teaching Wes Montgomery in all the schools - go figure.

Things that you can do on your own are pretty amazing...

  • "Playing chords that you weren't supposed to play on guitar and Wes played because he didn't know he wasn't supposed to play those chords." Classic!

  • Primac.. is the King!

  • whats the name of the song at 8:00

  • Such an incredible talent.

  • Bunch of old fucks SO. FFFFUUUULLLL OOOOFFFF HHHHHHAAAAATTTTEEEEE,,,,!!!!!!!!!!!!!RRRRAAAGGGEEE

  • I HATE ALL THEAE CUNTS TRYING TO MAKE MONEY OFF THE INTERNET YA CUNNNNTTTSS INTERNET SHOULD BE FREE KNOLWEDGE

  • no kidding! what color was the wallpaper at that barbecue joint??? :))

  • Thanx 4 this...gr8 doco about gr8 players...woooooooooo

  • Wes Montgomery is a one of a kind guitar player! He blows me away! But also, I find Orrin's comments interesting... this was back when producers actually knew something about music.

  • If you actually watch the whole video the name of the fuckin' song in the beginning appears in the final credits, you scmucks!

  • @pencap23 Please spell scmucks correctly if you choose to use it...its spelled............S..H..M..U..C..K..S

    Thank you.

  • Oops! Looks like we BOTH spelled it wrong. In the name of jazz I'll let you figure out the rest of it though. I was only teasing any way, no need to be pedantic!

  • wes - the greatest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wes was the s**t !! Incredible and unique !! Orrin Keepnews : One of world's most unsung producers !!

  • I didn't know Wes never studied formerly...scary.

  • @Xelanderthomas It's ironic that the three greatest guitarists - Montgomery, Charlie Christian and Django Reinhardt - had little or no formal training. Most of them learned by baptism of fire and became the most influential guitarists of their generation.

  • I was about eighteen when I first heard Wes ...`The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery`....and at the first listening I wasn`t so sure about his music because he didn`t sound anything like Barney Kessel...but pretty soon I got it ...and realised what Jazz Music really is... I have over the years bought about four copies of this album...and I still can`t hear it enough... fifty years later...Wes was more than incredible..(WORD)..!!

  • I just bought a Wes lp at the recommendation of my local record store hombre, all I can say is, yeeeaaaahhhhh

  • Wes Montgomery = Jazz god.

    No questions asked.

  • I tried a Barbeque Joint one time. They're a real bitch to keep lit.

  • @FoulOwl mmmmmm Barbeque

  • Thank you for posting this.

  • I've transcribed the entire album! Thanks for posting :-)

  • Take all the Worlds guitarists..line them all up..they'll NEVER touch Wes's genius.

  • especially when he didn't know how to read or write music. That's the scary part.

  • I never realized how incredible his chordal arrangementswere, when backing up the other members in the group. Truly genius musician...so much emtion and expression. Some of his performances are reminiscent of the great Johnny Smith. I wonder if Johnny had any influence on Wes? Anyone have an idea about that? Thanks

  • Hi csfreak50

Yes 'I've Griwn accustomed to her face' is great. In fact the entire CD its on 'Plays For Lovers' is unbelievable...with collaborations with his brothers and George Shearing too!. What a FANTASTIC CD...gives you chills!

    Enjoy.

  • Really great video!

What's the first song being played?

  • Great line by Orrin about Wes (paraphrased)

Things that you were not supposed to be able to do on a guitar...that he did because he didn't know that you were'nt supposed to be able to do them.

There's a great lesson here. How much do we limit ourselves because were are told that it's not possible.

  • Listen to the cut of "Gone with the Wind" on this album; it's a masterpiece.

  • ..and you can't imagine how it makes you feel "i studied all and i don't know anything about what this man is doing"..

That was Wes a pure pioneer, a source of all great musicians..

  • @vodkapower1986 hey man, sometimes musicians forget that all that theory is not absolutely necessairy, I think wes just followed his feeling

  • his rendition of "I've grown accustomed to her face" was the most chill song ever...

    ever..

  • Wes is the man....what a pleasure to see him play

  • jazzvideoguy have a job here :-) finding a video with the greatest guiitarplayer of all times.

  • May somebody know the song starting at 1:52

  • It's called "D-Natural Blues".

  • Thank you

  • Curse you, JazzVideoGuy! Before this video was even over, I had to order the trio album, Smokin at the Half Note, and Incredible Jazz Guitar (already had Full House). Good thing for me I'm crazy for this stuff!!!!!

  • haha i dont even remember what i put

  • fuck green day.

  • wes is so fun to listen to. no random notes

  • Please tell me what is playing at 1:05?

  • That is the solo to a live version of Round Midnight.. available on video... and I think also on YouTube..

  • please tell me the name of the song that is playing at 0:23. Thanks so much.

  • Mean What I Say - Cannonball Adderley and Bill Evans

  • Super. Wes was/is the greatest. Swing, harmony, melody, it's all there.

    Steve A

  • Thanks so much for posting this video.

  • Thanks Bret for this and the other videos . It is so great to have your work on the net where the young people can see the history of this fantastic music.

  • He was born to play simply put!

  • Wes is amazing! Thanks JazzVideoGuy!

  • What is he playing at 5:55? Beautiful chords

  • Dave Brubeck's "In Your Own Sweet Way"

  • Thank You

  • I've studied all of that and i dont know anything about what this man are doing!!!

    Ha ha ha ha ha.....

  • After my brother and I were turned on to Wes in 1960 by Garland Tiger-a guitarist supreme, of Ft. Worth CELLAR days- well, no point in listening to anyone else- Nobody's cut Wes yet!

Orrin Keepnews was as big a name to us as any musician---we poured over those liner notes & small b&w photos...the grooves were solidly worn off the Lps--- and just look at the lineup of artists.. Evans, Adderly... those strings of Riverside LP hits.....All Incredible! Thanks for posting- totally killer!

  • this is beautiful.

  • great! thanks for sharing!

  • This is absolutely fantastic. Thanks to JVG.

  • Absolutely magnificent, please keep this on, one of my favorite guitar players, danced a lot to his music in modern dance class at Tenn State. Beautiful memories, thanks!

  • thanks this is gold

  • Good old Wes, amazing as ever! Good post thanks :)

  • you just made someone else happy! thanks jvg.

  • What is the tune for the opening credit of these videos when the CONCORD add comes up?

  • Cannonball Adderley with Bill Evans - Know What I mean

  • Thanks Guy... I could hear Evans touch and I knew that had to be Cannonball. These videos are great.

  • Thanks for posting that.

If anyone likes Wes as a result of this clip, also check out Russell Malone and Emily Remler, who were also very much influenced by Montgomery.

  • cant forget george benson, and i dont really care for malone too much but thats my personal opinion

  • @robibm2003 The trouble is, there are just so many Wes copyists all trying the octave thing.

    (which Wes got from Django)

I personally like Jimmy Ponder who knew Wes & his family.

  • Great interview.

  • I watched all of your videos and I really have to thank you for the fantastic work you do

  • Thanks so much for your kind words. Stay tuned, the best is yet to come.

  • I did two days of interviews with Mr. Keepnews, and then edited that content into 20 episodes.

  • Wow!

Your effort and passion will be remembered and recognized in years to come by young jazz musicians like me.

  • how long was this interview?
