I know he's playing to "Taiga" by Zenith Patrol, but this almost sounds like it could be a TMV groove of sorts, circa The Bedlam In Goliath. I fucking love this drummer... Thomas Pridgen truly is a drumming god.
@wearytm Wow you are so right....that's why your commenting on HIS video at HIS drum clinic.....LOL get real dude. This dude was endorsed by Zildjan at age 9, resume is deeper than the Atlantic!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
there isn't any grooves what so ever, just fast drumming...not to mention he's way off beat from the improvisation he's playing along too....thomas pridgen is way below that of jerome flood and aaron spears. my opinion jerome flood and aaron spears top thomas pridgen by a long distance
@wearytm aaron spears can't touch thomas and jerome isn't even close. thomas's playing is VERY deep...u have to study or have studied at one point dave weckl, gergo borlai and vinnie colaiuta (in that order) to understand thomas's playin style. he's similar to those guys in many respects and people underestimate him because it sounds like noise when in fact its extremely precise. i can pick up countless nuggets from this vid alone. btw listen to this track on the album, thomas can groove.
@daonpa aaron spears is good, but the bulk of his style is mainly hip hop and gospel. you rarely hear him do intricacies that involve jazz, rock, latin, etc. thomas on the other hand, is heavily based in jazz even though he started out in gospel. listen the albums he's played on. aaron has a lot of flair, but thomas is too technical for people to compare the two. most drummers can't interpret what thomas does, that's why some don't like him. in actuality, thomas is a MONSTER.
@wearytm even the great terry bozzio said he was intimidated to play in front of thomas when he came on his show on drum channel. thomas is out of his fucking mind. i'd venture to even say he's top 5 in the world, but that's a matter of taste/opinion. he's no doubt my favorite drummer though, i can't even explain how inspirational he is.
@specialness16 hey man then definitely pick up pridgen's album that he did with christian scott called "rewind that" ...there's some BAD ASS jazz drumming on that record
This man is amazing, its hard to think that another musician could keep up with him and those insanely off time grooves. his playing has so much depth. not to mention going from gospel to mars volta, incredibly versatile
@ManBearJTS yeah man i know. he's just insane. i was there with my bass player and I asked him after the clinic how he would like jamming with Thomas. He was like hell no man. I'd get lost. dude's incredible
... red bull needs to sponsor this mother fucker.

@ManBearJTS you think that another musician couldnt keep up with him ? :DD
what about dennis chambers or aaron spears ?
daonpa 1 year ago
@daonpa Well i was talking about a musician other than a drummer, but still. Pridgen can hold his own even with the big boys.

@ManBearJTS
He is talanted, but i wouldn't say versatile, since I find hit he has own style but he uses it on everything. It can get a bit tiresome.
NostalgicProcrast 1 year ago
@ManBearJTS check out some vinnie calaiuta, I reckon his style comes directly from his lineage, if I may use such a term.
