  • Hey what gauage strings do you use on your martin D-28. Great video by the way !!

  • nice..

what interface , preamps and guitar are you using?

  • @jaagofficial Presonus Audiobox USB, Martin D-28

  • Thanks for that review men! thats the way to do it :)

  • a review for stoner singers lolz..

    good review man

  • That mic does sounds pretty good. Great review

  • Is there a certain shockmount made for this mic?

  • @knb243 Yes and it comes with it.

  • which inerface would you use in your opinon with the AKGp 420 (presonus or M-audio)??

  • Hey Garageband, great Video :) Did you ever hear the sound of the Rode NT-A, can you make a comparison to the 420 Perception? If not, doesn´t matter. Thanks for you video :)

  • whats better blue bluebird or akg p420?

  • u gotta do a tutorial on the finger picking u just did

  • freight train!! cool bro!

  • To activate Bass Filter, should i switch to the left or right? it doesn't say in the manual.

  • @itoako61 If you feel like there is too much bass in the sound, then turn it on! If not, leave it flat.

  • @GaragebandandBeyond You didn't answer his question, mate. He asked HOW you turn it on or off, meaning which position is on or off. I too want to know this.

  • @moneyquickeasy On the left activates the filter

  • @itoako61 On the left activates the filter

  • @GaragebandandBeyond Ah, thank you.

  • Hey! Very helpfull review! Do you really need a preamp for this?

  • @GSGBMusicc Yes you need a preamp, all mics require a preamp to function, but that doesn't mean you have to buy a separate one. Every interface has built in preamps. I use and love my Presonus AudioBox USB

  • I have the AKG perception 220. ooops! What's the difference between it and the 420?

  • Do you think i should get the perception 420/220 or a sm57 to mic my hot rod deluxe?

  • @willtheguitarman personally i think AKG william harrison

  • @GingerMusicTM thanks Daniel Hearn

  • What do you think of the akg C214?

  • AKG 420 perception or Blue Bluebird? Please answer me, your opinion is important for me :)

  • hey I bought this mic few weeks ago, can you tell me what preamp did you use on this review, thanks

  • @dzohusafetw Presonus AudioBox USB

  • This is a GREAT Mic...I was so lost on what to buy but I think I found my liking...thank you for that...and u r very talented...I can tell u r honest n have endless hours of hardwork put into music...I respect that! Thank you again for ur help...u made me securely happy! :)

  • helpfull vid, thanks man !

  • @flummyflu1 Yes

  • @GaragebandandBeyond The Guitar sounds is amazing on this Mic! You should put more music clips of you playing the Guitar. Do you have any recordings?

  • Hi, I've decided to get the Perception 420 but I jus realised it doesn't have a USB output? What do I need to do to get my recordings on to (windows/mac)? I really hope you can help me out! thanks.

  • @BreeElle you'll need an external sound card (audio interface), or some kind of adaptor wire from XLR to USB, I have no idea if that even exists but an audio interface is your best bet.

  • @idreamtofflight I've realised I do need an audio interface XLR to USB does exist but it doesn't supply the phantom power that the perception 420 requires. thanks for the help! :))

  • @BreeElle I actually forgot about the phantom power, good call!

  • You should try putting the mic closer to the low strings in cardioid and angle it toward the highs. It'll do wonders.

  • Beautiful. Your musicality is wonderful. Great channel man.

  • Excellent review. I just bought it today and it is just great. Thanks....

  • What would you say is better for vocal and acoustics , the shure sm7b, or this one??

    THANKS:D

  • is the song you fingerpicked called steamtrain or something like that?

  • AKG Perception 420 or 220? What the big difrence?

  • How do you think this is compared to the Shure sm7b? I need a mic that's good for both vocals and acoustic instruments. Thankyou!

  • Hi @GaragebandandBeyond,

    I'm planning to buy this AKG 420. I got a M-Audio profire 2626.

Do you recommend plugging it directly to M-Audio or put pre-amp in between for warmer vocal sound? What cheaper mic pre-amp is best?

Thanks - Your video is so much help & very informative

  • so..i have the r16 mixer with phantom power but i cant hear my vocals or i cant even record. how do i record with the akg perception 420

  • @rapper123123 Are you using the Zoom R16 Multi-Track Recorder & Mixer?

  • @GaragebandandBeyond Well it's not called that but its called "R16 Recorder:Interface:Controller"

and I can hear my mic. It works when i put on the headphones on I can hear myself. I just have trouble trying to record with it using Cubase LE 5. I would put a track on "record" and start recording my vocals but when I'm finish it doesn't show anything that I've recorded. Yea' i Kinda wasted 600 bucks! LMAO

  • @rapper123123 the fact that you can't record your mic has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the mic. It's because you haven't setup Cubase correctly, and you're just blaming it on the mic.

    That's like saying this:

"I bought a car without any wheels. The wheels shipped seperately. I don't know how to install the wheels onto the car, so I just left them uninstalled. I bought a premium $600 key, but when I put it in the ignition, the car wouldn't start moving! THAT STUPID KEY IS TO BLAME!!"

  • @GaragebandandBeyond Btw : Great Revieww bud!

  • Hi thinking about getting this mic for my wedding reception Ceremony. I tried several wireless lapels which all failed at one point or another. I dont mind setting up the extra cord for the wired mic, my question is this a good mic to use in this situation and should I be buying a windscreen with it?

  • @SingJiya What do you want to use it for at your wedding? I would suggest a Shure Sm58 for most live situations like a wedding.

  • @GaragebandandBeyond No that is not good enough, I need mic that pics up front and back, I have that mic you mention, its ok for announcement but this is a ceremony to pick up, Minister, bride and groom.

  • hay you know that shock mounts are for reducing mechanical noise (like when you "slap" the stand with the mic on)

  • this or the rode nt1-a?

  • Great demo dude, really informative and the mic really does sound good. It does sound a little bit woody though.

  • Great review! What pre-amp were you using for the Perception 420?

  • @QU1CK In this I was using a Presonus AudioBox USB ONLY

  • Stupid as hell...

  • Great great review man keep em commin

  • hey, maybe you can help me outh whit something..

the other day i was looking a dutch video clip and i saw a big microphone whit a metal thing around it like in this clip on youtube: Kempi - Stratiblues ft. Mr Probz & Tim Wes (Akoestisch) and i saw it also at other big musicians.

maybe you can tell me witch microphone that is?

  • Do you think buying this used is a good idea? My budget is so low. lol

  • Thanks for the review, I think I'm going to get it!

  • Hey

I was wondering should i save for the 420 or would the 120 or 220 do well?

  • have you noticed any radio interference from this mic?

  • Hi, this might be a weird question, but I want to buy this mic online, is it safe to ship condenser mics internationally? i know dynamic mics can take the stress a bit better, but condensers are very fragile. What do you think?

  • @ceilingkatt It's not a weird question, it's good to care about your mics! The AKG P420 comes with a very nice hard shell case, it can travel very safely, don't worry! Good luck!

  • @GaragebandandBeyond What is better. This, or, the CAD Trion 8000?? I would really like your opinion.

  • Great review. I wanted to get your opinion on which mic I should get. I'm a young artist looking to create some rock/rap music. So would you say their is a big difference in vocal quality between the akg 220 and 420? & what audio box would say works best with it. & is it easy to use and tweak the sound with garage band. I'm curious to which one I should get. Let me know what you think. Thanks

  • Nice work with the vids. Just a quick question though. I was using the at2020 usb condenser mic to my laptop(i7 with 4gb ram) and while I was singing, the voice came into my earphones in a delay. I know that is called latency. SO I returned the merchandise and researched online. If I purchase the akg p220 along with m-audio fast track pro usb interface(has zero latency monitering), would this prevent latency (To near zero) so that I can record. Please help. I just need anything that stops this.

  • @ltunit The answer is YES! Having an interface will solve that latency problem

  • @ltunit u got the same gear that I got... how r u coming along?

  • just bought this mic because of your demo! thanks!

  • What's the difference between P400 and P420?

  • @Garagebandandbeyond

hi, i need a responce from you for my question, can you kindly response me this will be very apreciate :) thanks

  • @yiopman i am liljeyzzy ... sorry for the bad account :)

  • hi just wanna ask something. if you are recording vocals through the perception 420 and in the same time you are playing the acoustic guitar does the mic capture the sound of the guitar or rejects it?? thank you

  • @ItsAaron90 It will capture everything you put in front of it. Mics don't really reject sound unless it is outside of it's pickup area in which case it's really just ignoring the sound not rejecting it. ha ha ha

  • hi i have a question, i haved seen your other video called (how to build a home recording studio) and you talk about the akg c3000 ... which mic is the better ? the akg perception 420 or the akg c3000 ... because i don't know which mic is better for vocal ... and i want a professional sound and i'm going to buy a preamp and compressor , so please responce me a need help because my project need to restart ! ps: sorry my english is bad

  • @liljeyzzy It really depends on your voice, the C3000 is a little darker but certainly not in a bad way. The P420 gives you a lot more options because of the multiple patterns it offers.

If I had to chose one over the other I would probably say go for the p420

  • i use figure 8 on my 420 when recording solo vocals too

  • @JSprayaEntertainment The Figure 8 pattern turns both diaphragms on, meaning that the opposite side that is facing you, is also capturing the sound. It's really not ideal to use that position for vocals. UNLESS you have experimented and like what you're getting I would recommend trying the Cardioid pattern. It's the one designed for vocals.

  • Really great review, man. I just bought an AKG 420 based on your inputs. I find your videos to be very well done. Keep up the good work.

  • what camera are u using?

  • what's your opinion of the RODE NT1-A?

  • i thought mics always distort?

  • @keeelane

all mics will distort if they hit a high enough SPL level, the 420 just has an extremely high distortion point for a condensor mic. 155 dB

  • @xXAsperityXx no, it's a fact all mics distort...

  • @keeelane

i know i didnt deny that, i'm just saying this mic won't distort at a low level like a lot of other condensor mics. i'm not saying it won't distort because it will, this just has a higher tolerance

  • omg. i fall in love with this mic.

  • Best mike I have heard.. its awesome! XD

  • im new to getting mics. so what would i need to hook this up to a music software like protools? obviously not via usb.. so can you pls help, iknow im a newbie :D

  • what exactly does the bar do in your acoustic guitar?

  • i have a question sir, and i really need answer..

im just new in buiLding up a "Home Recording Studio"

i am planning to get a, "Presonus Studio Channel", its a pre-amp..

could you show me how, exactly it is being use?

or how the connections should be, from your Mic xlr cable to Preamp, to mixer to pc?

ive been watching your videos lately and i see it very informative.

i am planning to get a "AKG perception 420" and this "Presonus Studio Channel"

  • Hi, what´s the diference between the AKG 420 and the 220?

    thanks

  • What Mic Preamp do you have? I bought this mic and the sound isn't nearly as good as this. PLEASE RESPOND!

  • @connerschultz12 In that video the mic was running through a PreSonus Tube pre, but I had most of the tube pulled out so to get a "non colored" tone. They are great mics, good luck!

  • @GaragebandandBeyond Thank you very much!!!

  • Can you send me one? Please.

  • Great!! i'll buy this mic! in the piano part what's the name of that song?

  • This is very helpful! and your very talented!

  • I want to buy a pre-amp to use with this mic... i have a firestudio tube and i hear lot of hiss from it... i want to buy a new one can you please tell me wich one you are using?

  • I cant make a choice between the rode NT2A & the AKG Perception 420....CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT !!!!???? any help would be appreciated !!!! I'm going to be recording male alto vocals WITH HEAPS OF PITCH CORRECTION!!!!

  • they are perfect for Leslie speaker horn too!!!!

  • Hey lewin is the rode nt2a better for male alto vocals?

  • Is This Mic Good For Studio Vocals? Not So Much Live.

  • @OliviaaxObsession Yes it is a very nice vocal mic.

  • if you just record your audio in 48k you wont have to deal with the lag issue

  • the piano piece reminded me of nick drake!

  • show off...but your good

  • nice guitar playing!

  • wich pre-amp you use to record the video

  • whats the difference between the 420 & 220 ?

  • @detroitsdeadliest

    AKG 220:

    Polar pattern = cardioid

    Sensitivity = 18 mV/Pa (-35 dBV)

    AKG 420:

Polar pattern = Cardioid, omnidirectional, figure-eight (it has a switch)

    Sensitivity = 28 mV/Pa (-31 dBV)

  • @metaxisthedrummer What does cardioid mean?

  • @PeaceMotherBrother

The most common microphone pickup pattern you'll encounter is the cardioid pattern. Cardioid means "heart-shaped", from the Greek root word "cardi". A cardioid pickup pattern means pickup to the front of the microphone, and to a lesser extent the sides, with good rejection of sound to the back of the microphone.

  • is AKG 420 the Latest among the PERCEPTION series? thats before 820?

  • Ok, I have a few things to say. I have the 200 series, and it's nice and all, but when I talk into it, it's a lot more clearer than it records, it's that normal for all mics? Also, I don't even have up too loud but when I sing into it, it scratches really easy like I'm screaming into it, what could that be? Could that be based on how I have it hooked up, wires, the mic itself, where the mic is cornered in my closet, etc... Can you give me some advice?

  • the wind cries mary :D

    great review!

  • What kind of preamp/audio interface did you use???

  • I like most of AKG products they have an great sound to them for an tube mic and you can't beat the price everybody always wants neumann but i think the 820 akg sounds just as great as the neamannu87 for less then the price

  • my man compliments to your videos particularly on this one , i bought the same mic after seeing your review my problem is i dont get the same quality of sound that your getting, im not sure if its in the connections or im using the wrong equipment , i basically hook it up on my alesis 102 then to my mac then my amp ,but the quality os sound that im gettiing my man is so weak,, please if you have time and help me somehow i would appreciate it ..

  • PARTY ON WAYNE!!!!!

  • hey, just a quick msg, I already own this mic and I love it but I was just wondering if anyone could answer me this. I have been recording my friends band recently who are extremely loud and using the 420 as a room mic just to get the sound of the band playing in a room, do you think the loudness could damage the mic at all? or cause it to lose some of it's crisp qaulities when recording quiter instruments for example acoustic guitar or soft vocals?

  • what are the best settings for this mic for live loud vocals? I keep getting a lot of feedback. like, i don't even know how to use it. you know the switches on the mic? where should they be set for that? or is it even good to use for live vocals?

  • @TheTOBster21 This mic is NOT really good for live vocals. It's extremely difficult to control a condenser mic on a loud stage.

Really the best thing for that is a Shure SM58.

  • @GaragebandandBeyond thanks for the quick response and info bro!

  • @TheTOBster21 we have the same problem , i bought the same mic after seeing his review my problem is i dont get the same quality of sound that your getting, im not sure if its in the connections or im using the wrong equipment , i basically hook it up on my alesis 102 then to my mac then my amp ,but the quality os sound that im gettiing my man is so weak,, please if you have time and help me somehow i would appreciate it ..

  • @TheTOBster21

Haha, too much money spending and not enough study. Everyone who knows sound could have told you that. All condenser mics pick up EVERYTHING!!! They are for recording studios. They will get feedback loops if you are playing their sound through speakers even if the speakers are miles away. If you can hear them, the mic can. You need a dynamic mic for going live. They have a 3 inch pickup zone. That means they won't get feedback from your speakers. Even if they are a meter away.

  • Does anyone have any experience with the Perception 120? I have heard good reports on the 100 which is not made anymore. The 120 is very reasonably priced.

  • This review alone had helped me decide on my next condenser mic. I was comparing this mic , the AudioTechnica AT4040 and the Rode NT1a and I'm going with the AKG Perception 420 because the multi-pattern pickup makes it much more flexible in the studio. Very clean detail in HD.

  • Hi dude! Nice Video! I Have the Perception 220 and its a great Microphone too... I have a QUESTION: How did you synchronize the sound of the mic and the video?

    greetz John

  • @5BlackJohn5 Recorded it in Garageband exported it, then put in into iMovie and synched it up! It's pretty easy to do!

  • (sory about my english)

you talent* you great and tnks about the video'

    i buy it !

  • If I'm only using it for voice over, is there any advantages of the P420 over the p220?

I know the p420 has more patterns, but does the p420 in cardioid mode have any advantages or differences over using the p220?

  • Hey,

I love your youtube channel, its amazing, great stuff on here. Could you compare/test the Audio-technica 2050 and the AKG 420 for me (singing) or have someone sing if you cant sing :P thx so much :)

  • if im looking for one mic that will be used strictly for r&b and rap vocals at this price, should i go with this mic or do you have a better suggestion?

  • you've convinced me... ill get one :) THANK YOU!

  • Hi, nice review!

one question, what differences with perception 820, in sound and quality... there are much difference??? Do you recomended a tube mic or mic with tube preamp?

    Thanks!

  • what headphones do you have here.. what would you recommended it for, are they good just for reference or recording in general im a drummer and i need music with no bleed lol also when i record acoustic guitar my guitarist likes to put his head toward the mic to see the strings better so what i need is a good pair of headphones that would let me play the music back into them loud music in that fact and wont bleed as much.. i was looking at the AKG k271 MKII what do you think

    thanks

  • Great videos! but can I ask how you made the video entrance, or what ever its called?

  • can anybody help me out with preamps? i already got a mic but it sounds awful, so i am thinking about getting a new one... not sure yet, but what preamps are good for this mic or any others?

  • @AlyciaMariie Hey there, I use the PreSonus TubePre. I have a video up on my channel about it. It's the best "bang for your buck" inexpensive PreAmp. Also you can get the BEST deal at candymanstringsandthings {dot} com. Call them, ask for Randy, tell them you were referred Garageband and Beyond. That will insure you get the best price.

  • @GaragebandandBeyond seriously? that thing is cheap! wonderin if it would be enough for proper vocal recording... plus i'm not sure about the microphone yet.. i was really disappointed with my first microphone so i'm pretty careful now! do they also do shipping to europe?

  • hey

how well would this mic record if i just put it right in front of my drums. if its good where would i put it.

btw love the vids you have been such a help

    thanks

  • @mrbumbum11 Hey there, this mic will record drums very well. If you are going to try and record your entire kit with one mic, try placing it 2-3 ft in front of you kick and have the bottom of the diaphragm lined up with the top of your kick.

    Good luck!

  • hey

just want to know if i just stuck this mic in front of my drums how god would it sound, and which position would be the best to put it in.

and thanks for posting these vids. you have been a such a help.

    great job thanks

  • if i just put this mic right in front of drums how good would it sound.

btw great vids they have helped me so much. dont stop.

is the 220 better than the 420

    thanks

  • Do you know of a good microphone that can record vocals, guitar ,saxophone, drums fairly well... etc thanks... great vid btw!

  • @TheMegaMrKj The AKG P420 will do all those things well. And if you buy it from my friends store you'll be helping a family owned business!

  • @MarkeXangels Yes this is a GREAT vocal mic. I have used it several times for that and was ALWAYS happy with the results.

If you do buy it you really should consider getting it from my friends store! The link is on the info area of this video.

I'm really trying to help them, they deserve it!!

    thanks!

  • what do you think about the akg perception 220 cus im planing on getting that but if its not so good ill get this one

  • Just wondering, what type of mandolin are you playing in this video?

    great videos by the way!

  • @GaragebandandBeyond hey.. just wondering if you had money to buy this or the blu (blue bird) microphone... which one would you get?

I want this or the bluebird ..any one have suggestions???

I know alot of ppl buy mics and end up disappointed and this is for vocals mostly so..just wondering?

  • @16StarvingArtist No this mic IS NOT mostly for vocals. In fact my video was obviously supposed to show that.

I really do love the mic it is very versatile.

  • Great review. That guitar has an amazing tone too. You do a great job at reviewing and explaining things. Keep it up!

  • Have a quick question ? Why when I make a record, it delays for about 1 second when I monitored what I play through my headphones ? Advance thanks. = )

  • @Art2703

That's called latency. What soundcard are you recording through?

  • @Art2703 What program are you using to record?

  • I have no idea about gig mics, would this mic work well?

  • @hudat It depends what you want to use it for. If you're just doing vocal get a Shure Beta 58. You can't go wrong with that!

  • do you know any good mics i can find for under 200

  • @RyanRadiculous

    yo try the

    Audio technica at2035 146 dlls

I have it and its really good, i also recomend u the

    Akg perseption 220 179dlls

    hope that helps

  • @DjSairuncn yeah thaks alot(:

  • great review, good work

  • In the video it was connected to a Presonus TubePre.I tried to roll the tube section down low so there wouldn't be any coloration.

Thanks for the nice comment! Where did you buy it from? Please say the Candyman!

  • what preamp are you using
