Well now you gotta look at it from a medical p.o.v. The heavy, metal gate falls on the body of a child. Judging from what we see, the back of his head suffered from blunt force impact. This would cause internal bleeding of the skull. Explains why blood was coming from his ear.

We had a similar Public Service film when I was growing up. As I lived in a border town, I have no idea from where it originated, the US or Canada. It told of the dangers of crossing wetlands alone...a man alone on the wetlands was as good as dead from drowning in mud. The trick was to travel in groups or with a long staff. It wasn't the sort of thing a child wanted to know about: the ground giving way at any moment. I wonder if I can find it on youtube.

@ThatsMrMoronToYou What was the title of this film you're talking about? To actually drown in mud would be rare and impossible. Given the density of the type of sediment involved, you'd float in mud. The only way you could drown after being swallowed into a wetland quagmire is if the mud was thick enough to vice grip you, that you couldn't release from it in time for a tide to fill up the pit. I've dived and fooled around in many bogs and swamps, and I'd vote for being with groups (more fun).

I was so annoyed later in life about the fuss during the 80's about protecting kids from watching Video Nasties, when schools saw nothing wrong showing us terrifying sub-snuff movie shite like this!

I saw this movie too many times as a kid .When they weren't showing it to us in school, they'd also screen it on HTV West on Sunday afternoons after the farming programmes. The stupid thing was there were no farms anywere near us for miles, so we were all made shit-scared for nothing.

In all seriousness, I find these deaths to be tragic in the storyline of the movie. I apologize if I sounded callous. I was just trying to say how these kids should have known better then to do the things that they did in this movie.

About the gate, I assumed after watching the video that the gate must have hit the kid on the head with a fatal blow or something but a broken neck is just as likely.
