Saying grey knights lack firepower is stupid given the can take 3 psyfleman dreads plus a ton of S6hvy bolter/twin las razorbacks, plus all the infantry have storm bolters, psycannons and meltaguns. In my last tourney the top 4/28 were all identical GK lists, and 16 were playing GKs, BAsand SWs. Im sticking to Malifaux + Hordes until Mechhammer 40k ends.

honestly, grey knights are over powered now, i play chaos and have been for more than 12 years. i do play for fun, but there is always that asshole with grey knights who is only there to win and only thinks its fun to win... it is not fun playing him, when i play my buddy AJ, i always lose, but i have a damn good time with it... from personal experience.. and this is just my local area, not that all Grey Knights players are like it.. they are power gamers, and not fun to play with
when i first bought grey knights, i thought they where elite units like veteran marines where, and when i found out that they where their own chapter (sort of) i converted ALL OF MY MARINES to grey knights using Green-Stuff and Scupley clay. YES, i re-painted ALL OF THEM, too. now nobody wants to play a game with me except one friend because "that's not fair, you didn't buy them".

@DarthJaxson Because the key to any good military is, you need to focus on the appearance before you focus on talent. So long as you have a good-looking army nothing else matters. All you need do is practice and you'll find a working strategy eventually.

Dude, this is the best. You threw the best examples onto the table man. Been loving the Grey Knights since I got started, now that the new codex is out I've been taking flak left and right.
GK rules make them the perfect low model count army, which is good for everybody's wallet. But the FLUFF! GAH, it makes me want to paint my units pink to give them more of a personality...
I play grey knights, around 1500 all i use is Drago and paladins... i lose most games but i love my army and is great to paint, the paladin models have so much detail.
alright, i take back what i said- GK are incredibly powerful against most armies, especially hordes (because of the purifiers) and demons (in a fussy upper class voice- "but of course") both sorts of eldar, and tau pose 'em some serious challenges though
I would like something to happen. I remember when they used to run massive campaigns for each of these events and use the outcome to say what happened in the storyline. That's how to progress the story, in my humble opinion.
GK are powerful, but hardly broken. while they do turn some of the better nid units into liabilities, it's not like the xenos can't run a list to beat them. space wolves now, they're nearly broken...
I must say that all my experience with them has been disappointing. All hype, in my opinion. A nice army, to be sure, but I've had little trouble with them. But I play Dark Eldar, and my Nids remain untested against them.
P.S. Beardy is the British equivalent to the term "cheese". Whilst I use both terms interchangeably, I believe that "cheesy" is the American term.
True. Although I have found that if you play an all-comers Codex, they generally aren't that cheesy. It's when people find that unit which is questionable that bad things start happening, and the Emperor cries.

I play Daemonhunters and Orks. Haven't picked up the Grey Knights Codex yet, but I have played against it a couple times with my Orks.
And you know what? Draigo dies to Shootas and Lootas as easily as every other infantry unit in the game. If my Codex, which was quite frankly rushed, sloppy as hell, and underpowered when it came out, can win games against Grey Knights, nobody should be complaining.

It's not even that bad of a Codex unless you play nids. Okay the Fluff is the worst drivel GW ever put out, but the Armylist? Marines with more Special abilities and higher point cost. They will be possible to defeat them in the same way as all other marines.
I can't tell everyone how much this actually makes sense. To play an army that gets run over by everyone else for six years only to hear nonstop bitching about how we are overpowered makes me want to scream. Last time I checked we still had to play 20 points minimum per model. So everyone that wants to be a baby can die in a warpfire. It's not a broken dex, it's just something competitive, finally.
I really like new gk codex becuase it is direct punch into face against standart T4 3+ no brain no tactic whatever spam. Copy and paste razorbacks with assault cannons, 30 termies, ba assaulteros with meltas and priest etc. The problem to play against gk its that you can not use melta spam but try another list and another tactica. Blood angels - use stern guard, who play them normaly? Use plasmas instead meltas, who play them normaly? Use sacrificial units
, who play them in sm armies? Gk are not overpowered,but they hurt standart dumb lists and probably hurt your brain because you must start use it to beat them. Nearly every unit in gk codex is usable. oh, take 3* grey hunters, 3* long fangs, 2x priest, wolf cavalery with lord and make the rest of army, what a miracle. Not here. You could have 3 different units in special slot and you have very good army. You must look how to play this army not on units costs.
@Imenhotep Plasma doesn't work against knights if you use that magnetic upgrade thingy. It still has a slim chance but thats better than full chance. The funny thing though is grey knights are only overpowered entirely against grey knights. Everyone in the army has an option to carry an instant death to psykers weapon, which just happens every grey knight is a psyker XD

It happens. I find the best way to avoid this is to avoid the internet, play with friends and bring older models- it's hard to claim you're a power gamer when 3/4 models in your army are an edition or more old.
That said, when my Orks, Wood Elves or Space Marines get updated (my Dark Eldar are fine at the moment), I shall have to face the accusing stares.
It isn't that the game is unblanced, per say, it's just that a certain type of person looks at the codex (for any army) and says "how can I put together something that will make it easy to win?" and in this round of books the game has gone to mechanised infantry.
I think that GW needs to have something equivalant to Page 5 of Warmachine (is it Warmachine?) which states every player must bring as much power as he can. Or much rather, a rule 5+Golden Rule, so either BOTH of you are bringing killy things, or both of you are bringing fun things, or both of you are bringing a mix. So long as both players want to play the same way, I don't see a problem.
It would be sweet if 40k was balanced. But, the only way to do that would be to have one person write every single codex simultaneously. Although, better yet, just have a group of people that can actually think about balancing the game instead of just giving the newest codex better stuff than every codex before it.

@DarthJaxson The GW guys are just out to be salesmen, in my experience, so of course they're going to be cool to you. In my experience, the GK are really beat-able by any army just because most of their best tactics rely on passing tons of psychic tests.

I play grey knights, around 1500 all i use is Drago and paladins... i lose most games but i love my army and is great to paint, the paladin models have so much detail.

alright, i take back what i said- GK are incredibly powerful against most armies, especially hordes (because of the purifiers) and demons (in a fussy upper class voice- "but of course") both sorts of eldar, and tau pose 'em some serious challenges though

I would like something to happen. I remember when they used to run massive campaigns for each of these events and use the outcome to say what happened in the storyline. That's how to progress the story, in my humble opinion.

GK are powerful, but hardly broken. while they do turn some of the better nid units into liabilities, it's not like the xenos can't run a list to beat them. space wolves now, they're nearly broken...

I must say that all my experience with them has been disappointing. All hype, in my opinion. A nice army, to be sure, but I've had little trouble with them. But I play Dark Eldar, and my Nids remain untested against them.
P.S. Beardy is the British equivalent to the term "cheese". Whilst I use both terms interchangeably, I believe that "cheesy" is the American term.

played the grey knights wit me necrons last week....lost grand total 4 models and 5 scarab bases. Bragging rights a-plenty!!!

I play Daemonhunters and Orks. Haven't picked up the Grey Knights Codex yet, but I have played against it a couple times with my Orks.
And you know what? Draigo dies to Shootas and Lootas as easily as every other infantry unit in the game. If my Codex, which was quite frankly rushed, sloppy as hell, and underpowered when it came out, can win games against Grey Knights, nobody should be complaining.

It's not even that bad of a Codex unless you play nids. Okay the Fluff is the worst drivel GW ever put out, but the Armylist? Marines with more Special abilities and higher point cost. They will be possible to defeat them in the same way as all other marines.

I can't tell everyone how much this actually makes sense. To play an army that gets run over by everyone else for six years only to hear nonstop bitching about how we are overpowered makes me want to scream. Last time I checked we still had to play 20 points minimum per model. So everyone that wants to be a baby can die in a warpfire. It's not a broken dex, it's just something competitive, finally.

I really like new gk codex becuase it is direct punch into face against standart T4 3+ no brain no tactic whatever spam. Copy and paste razorbacks with assault cannons, 30 termies, ba assaulteros with meltas and priest etc. The problem to play against gk its that you can not use melta spam but try another list and another tactica. Blood angels - use stern guard, who play them normaly? Use plasmas instead meltas, who play them normaly? Use sacrificial units

Nearly every unit in gk codex is usable. oh, take 3* grey hunters, 3* long fangs, 2x priest, wolf cavalery with lord and make the rest of army, what a miracle. Not here. You could have 3 different units in special slot and you have very good army. You must look how to play this army not on units costs.

@Imenhotep Plasma doesn't work against knights if you use that magnetic upgrade thingy. It still has a slim chance but thats better than full chance. The funny thing though is grey knights are only overpowered entirely against grey knights. Everyone in the army has an option to carry an instant death to psykers weapon, which just happens every grey knight is a psyker XD

It happens. I find the best way to avoid this is to avoid the internet, play with friends and bring older models- it's hard to claim you're a power gamer when 3/4 models in your army are an edition or more old.
That said, when my Orks, Wood Elves or Space Marines get updated (my Dark Eldar are fine at the moment), I shall have to face the accusing stares.

It isn't that the game is unblanced, per say, it's just that a certain type of person looks at the codex (for any army) and says "how can I put together something that will make it easy to win?" and in this round of books the game has gone to mechanised infantry.

I think that GW needs to have something equivalant to Page 5 of Warmachine (is it Warmachine?) which states every player must bring as much power as he can. Or much rather, a rule 5+Golden Rule, so either BOTH of you are bringing killy things, or both of you are bringing fun things, or both of you are bringing a mix. So long as both players want to play the same way, I don't see a problem.

It would be sweet if 40k was balanced. But, the only way to do that would be to have one person write every single codex simultaneously. Although, better yet, just have a group of people that can actually think about balancing the game instead of just giving the newest codex better stuff than every codex before it.
