The reason this was banned in Britain, was not for any political reason. It was after Lonnie Donegan release a version with words "We fought the bloody British". This was frowned upon by the BBC radio people,( they often banned records for one daft reason or another) they refused to play the record unless the word "bloody" was removed. So Lonnie was forced to substitute the word Ruddy or Bloomin.' Lonnie did this and that was acceptable, he then went on to have a huge hit with the song.
Johnny never should have re-did it. These imperialistic bastards wanted to control the world. We beat there ass in the revolution and then had a sneak attack on us in the war of 1812. We're no angels but we never wanted to control the world like the british. They were worse then Rome.
@jaytf1231 Typical American bollocks. You did not beat the British, we had already captured your Capitol. This was more a balls up by the British officers in charge. And you did not chase the British, the rebels never left the safety of the barricade. The British simply walked to a rendezvous point, then went and captured one of your forts.
You yanks would control the world all right, but you are crap at winning anything military. You are, and will always be jealous of the British.
@frankiehiyo That's funny. We helped you win two world wars and vice versa. Is that anyway to talk about your best ally? How about the way you treated the Irish with the potato famine? Even many Jewish people call that a near genocide. Don't get me wrong there are things I like about the British. I love the Beatles and Stones and Clapton and so many of your rock groups.
@jaytf1231 I am not an imperialistic bastard. Britains longest serving and most loyal ally is Portugal. Yes, we did control most of the world. We still have a Commonwealth games.. The USA did not get involved in WW1 until 1917. Britain had already beaten Germanys navy and airforce in WW2, well before the USA was persuaded to get involved. You yanks were brave soldiers nevertheless. The potato famine was caused by a virus imported from America, this destroyed the irish potato crop.
@frankiehiyo Kind of also sounds like revisionist history. Anyway, don't be so sensitive. It was 200 years ago. You are not imperialists today. Churchill is one of the greatest men of the 20th century. And I love what Tony Blair did for peace in Ireland. He and Clinton don't get enough credit for that. And I love British rock and Monty Python and Faulty Towers Are you being served and other British shows. So there, I can be positive.
@jaytf1231 You put in print such vile things, and then say don't be sensitive? It might have been years ago, but it hasn't stopped the USA from banging on about it.As for Churchill:" Now is the time at last to rouse the nation... We should lay aside every hindrance and endeavor by uniting the whole force and spirit of our people to raise again a great British nation standing up before all the world; for such a nation, rising in its ancient vigour, can even at this hour save civilization.
He's NOT mocking them, he gave in and made a pro-British version! More $ in his pockets, so he sold out! Love the "real song," but always mad that he did this! Should've hung him for sedition, but . . . we have "Freedom of Speech!" and can't/won't stop a man for speaking his mind. Jon Stewart did a TV piece on Parliament, late July/2011, BBC not allowed to air as it is against THEIR law to make fun of Parliament or the Royal Family. Now that's just "UN-AMERICAN!" lol
Johhny Horton also did a pro British song."Sink the Bismark"
