It has to be coaching. ND has 50 parade all Americans on their roster, Navy has 50 guys that have to march in parades. Not one guy on Navy's roster was recruited by ND. The recruits are all good at ND. Navy usually gets guys that do not have a D1 offer and have no NFL aspirations. It HAS to be coaching

The most important guy is Bob Mundy who is still enforcing that stupid admissions policy that keeps good kids out. Kids who could help that crappy defense and maybe stop a backup, no offers, 6' fullback from getting 210 yards. Can't ND figure out that not all geniuses come fully equipped with cleats, and that average kids are valuable to a university too - especially ones who can tackle and run a 4.3?
Actually navy hasnt been playing the same plays paul johnsen instutided the triple option around 2004 ish and since then notre dame has had problems with this offence and most division one teams.

Changing the course of our recent history is up to them and its in their hands if they want it to go in a positive direction. Yesterday was a major step back. However, even in a transitional stage this team is capable of putting up a better effort and performing better than what I saw yesterday. The problem for ND is that they are not as big of a draw for great football players, especially defensive players. Back in the 80's, everyone wanted to go there. They were one of the only teams that were televised almost every week. Today it is totally different, people can watch their favorite team on TV or internet for whatever game they want. ND might get a few elite recruits (Teo), but their overall defensive talent has been weak for years.
@Krock008 I disagree. I looked at the scout.com profiles for the defensive players on ND now. Most are Four Star atheletes with Te'o a 5 star. It's what Lee Corso said about ND 2 years ago.

@SuperSparrow45 Actually, I looked on scout as well and there was close to an equal number of 3 stars to 4 stars over the last 5 years for the defense. Scout always overates ND recruits anyways. You need to compare the rankings from Scout, Rivals, and ESPN to get a better judge on players talents. Although it's almost impossible to tell how these players will turn out. P.S. I've said for years now that the culture at Notre Dame needs to change. Just getting the right coach isn't enough anymore. They just can't get the recruits they did in the old days.

The Veer/Triple Option has to be game planned properly. You just have to play assignment football and more importantly - control the LOS.
