i for one have over 400 hours of gameplay on fallout 3 and i can confirm it is.... the best game EVER made. and i love the colors of fallout 3 and i think the colors of New Vegas ruin the mood. wirch i so dearly loved in fallout 3. and i tought operation anchorge was one of the best dlc and mother ship zeta and the pitt the wourse since it took HOURS to beat them both and your traped inside them, but mother ship zeta is probably the wourse with its *un able to go back into the rest of the ship*
@GENNAVISOIN I completely agree! people who say that the game's colors are bad and that its been over 200 years....cmon its the nations capitol it was bombed ten times more than every other state!
@Teeheehee093 its simple, really. multiple play through's the max i had on ONE of my chars was 220 hours, i still play to this day. i cant stop forever. i have to play it a couple hours every week/mounth XD anyways i dident play the game for the quests, even though i finished all of them on my 220 hour char. but the dlc's helped i wanted every trophy on fallout 3. but even then that was after 150+ hours idk how i spent that long. not to mention all the crash's it had on ps3.
@Teeheehee093 also, i would like to hear, ALL the chat npc's had. and, i would just roam the wastelands, doing what ever i wanted. i was bassically invincible well, lets just say i was as strong as fawks but, with more damage.
I can only assume project V13 would be about what happened to vault 13 between fallout 1-2.. what with getting over run by the time the second game comes around.
could you kindly make a fallout new vegas video, part 4 now that all the dlc is out for it, or will you wait till they make a game of the year version and have most of the bugs out of the game?
@gamerboss007 Because Tactics and BoS shouldnt be called ''Fallout''. Those games were terrible and adding to the franchise sequels to 2 crappy games is something people DONT want to do
A shame Van Buren never saw the light of day. The eventual Fallout 3 by Bethesda is a shell of a game that can't even stand in its prequals shadow. I wish Bethesda would stop making games altogether (although just giving up the Fallout rights would be a good start)
Sure, if you enjoy shitty writing, fed-ex quests, a broken leveling system and broken combat, all running on one of the worst engines ever created. Bethesda couldn't make a decent game to save their lives.
@Stoffinator2008 The creation engine is not the same as gamebryo although it does run on similar coding due to Bethesda working off that code for so long but I'm sure by the time Fallout 4 comes out they will have upgraded the engine.
@DesertFox1322 Wrong!!! There are 6 fallout games. Fallout 1,2, tactits, brotherhood of steel, fallout 3 and New vegas. So, New vegas is fallout six. This seems wierd, dosent it? Well, its true! @LightningSamus Not true, unfortunately. According to Interplay, Bethesda is only licensed to do one more Fallout game before the ownership actually reverts back to Interplay.
There's an on-going legal battle going on about it, really. Interplay is developing a Fallout MMO completely separate from Bethesda, and Bethesda is being really... shady about it's legal process.
@willofthewater It's on-going. The MMO side is one of a number of issues. There's even a possibility that Bethesda can lose the Fallout franchise if Interplay can prove that Bethesda violated their second contract.
@Her0ofCha0s94 Bethesda made a great *attempt* at making Fallout 3. Like every other Bethesda game, they pretty much nailed the environment, but failed abysmally at coming up with even a decent story. Even worse are the characters (bereft of any personality, cliched, cardboard cutouts). The most awful part, however, is the dialogue. It's painful to listen to people talk. Bethesda can't write at all. The conversations you can have made little sense and rarely had a trace of intelligence or humor.
@Her0ofCha0s94 "bethesda did an incredible job on fallout 3. i hope they make a fallout 4" Too bad that the game is STILL buggy and glitchy as hell, its a shame.
@Warchicken47 The people on NMA have got to be the most bias fan base around, who shun literally everything made by Bethesda and seem to worship Interplay even though Interplay made those crappy Tactics and Brotherhood of steel titles. I admit, I love Fallout 1 and 2 and dialogue is a bit iffy sometimes in 3 and 3 does seem different, but the series needed a much needed reboot from turn based combat and isometric graphics to something else, which Interplay would of kept the same.
@shakennotstirred17 You obviously haven't been to NMA for long. No one there is a big fan of Interplay. They're big fans of Black Isle Studios and Obsidian, but not Interplay. They hate what Interplay did with Brotherhood of Steel, and aren't too keen on Interplay's upcoming Fallout MMO.
Van Buren (the original Fallout 3 before it was cancelled) had real-time combat (turn-based was optional) and 3D graphics.
@DevilTakeMe You're kidding me right? It's like a hostile planet on NMA. Like one of those stories where you walk into a seemingly nice town and then the villagers are chasing you with pitchforks because they're insane. Only in this case because you like Fallout 3. I managed on there only because I liked all of the games and not simply 3.
@brandonhart61 That speaks more of the kind of people who are fans of Fallout 3 than anything else. I've been at NMA and at DAC and other "Fallout fansites" for years, and most Fallout 3 fans are just not capable of defending themselves or their own opinions, most often through a lack of knowledge or a childish mindset.
If the (Unwashed) Villagers are chasing you with pitchforks, it's mostly because you came into town to cause trouble. Bonus points if you get the reference.
@DevilTakeMe Haha no, it's more like the other way around. And yes the Villagers plagued the Interplay forums or something but that has nothing to with what I said. Fall fansites are quite possibly some of the most negative and intolerable communities on the internet: very small, focused and bitter.
@brandonhart61 All forums will have haters. That's something you can't get away with anywhere on the internet.
As for fansites, you wouldn't go into any academic discussion without proper research would you?
Any fansite or forum will be the same way - if you go into a debate with only a limited amount of knowledge because you're focused on one side, of course you're going to be laughed at.
I've seen your posts on NMA You come across as a bit naive and under-researched yourself. :)
@DevilTakeMe All forums have haters yes, but a lot of the members are biased and have an irrational hatred of Bethesda. Unresearched? I happen to know quite a bit about the games and I am actually not focused on one side as you may of gathered from my posts, I'm open minded in that I can find the pros and cons of the games. something that you apparently can't appreciate....
@brandonhart61 Like I said, you -are- a bit naive. Being open-minded is good, but you're getting caught up in a lot crap and taking it at face value. Many like Bethesda just fine, just not what Bethesda did in Fallout 3. Most folks like Morrowind quite a bit and has had a mostly positive reaction to Skyrim, afterall.
Oblivion and Fallout 3 are mostly seen as "low points."
You want to see Irrational Hatred at NMA? Mention FOBOS or Interplay's management.
@DevilTakeMe If you want to continue this conversation, that's fine but can we continue it in messaging on NMA? It's never nice to see an argument going on in the comments section Youtube.
@Her0ofCha0s94 Considering how similar Fallout 3 is to Oblivion, it will probably be another two years or so for Fallout 4 to come out, longer if they make a new Fallout specific engine.
@Her0ofCha0s94 They really need to stick with their game and leave Fallout alone. btw Fallout 3 is the worst fallout out of the entire feeling with having horrible voice actors and not only not sticking with the Fallout universe.
after playing fallout 3 i play fallout 1. i didnt enjoy it but i do now understand why people love fallout 1. it was just to hard for me. i didnt get a great ending : /
@mdude009 There's a lot of factors going into why 3 is regarded poorly. Gameplay wise, it was too easy with too many powerful weapons, enemies who were too easy to kill, excessively simple quests, too linear, etc. etc. Some felt it had too many of the problems Oblivion had.
For others, the game's setting was entirely too simplistic and nonsensical. If you tried to think about much of the game's situation, it didn't follow any believable sort of logic, unlike the earlier games.
@mdude009 I played F1 and F2 tho and F3 was gameplay and exploration wise was brilliant but the story was imo horrible and the writing sucked imo.Oh and the F3 ending THAT WAS HORRIBLE.
if ya on windows7 then u need to right click the game goto probities then compatabillaty put it on win 95 and 256 colours and it will work without messed up colours
@MjauProductions My grandfather let me play Fallout 2 on his computer when I was 8 that sparked my interest in video games 3 years before Fallout 3 came out.
new vegas was ok but its a was a big step down from fallout 3 the story was zzzzzz for me and the graphics sub par fallout 3s story was great but really short same as oblivion they should have cut some side quests i hope they have learned there lesson for SKYRIM
new vegas did fuck the series up a bit en i hope the wil make a fallout 4 that will blow our minds en the serie to continue hope the wil thumbs up for this comment plz
@SteamMonkey115 look ive played fallout2 and tactics, idk why you're mad at bethesda, all they did was pick up a dead game and make it what they thought it should be and i loved it.
That was just amazing my good sir! I'm obsessed with Fallout 3, New Vegas is okay in my opinion. And I just got 1, 2 and tactics but unfortunately my computer is terrible. But this review was great, lot's of info to help fuel my fangirl-ness! Thanks for making it!
@TopherBlairMusic I guess many people who played the originals didn't like shooter games and the fact that NCR and other western American themes were replaced by BoS and Washington D.C.
@TopherBlairMusic The problem is simply that the technology was put ahead of story and gameplay. Fallout 3 boasted a great looking game, lots of explosions, but there was little soul or thought put into what made Fallout different than other game franchises.
Some people say Fallout 3 is "Oblivion with Guns", which is appropriate. Oblivion was a step forward from it's predecessor Morrowind in many places, but steps backwards in others. The same is true with Fallout 3.
@AzureDrachen Yeah I agree with that, but I still had fun with 3 and that's really the bottom line that determines if I like a video game. I mean lets be honest, I actually had a lot of complaints with Fallout 2 back when it was out. My biggest being the recycled graphics from Fallout 1, which to me was just laziness. I think we should quit acting like, just speaking in general here, that the first two Fallout games were perfect and Bethesda has to live up to that standard. Cause they weren't.
@TopherBlairMusic The first two Fallout games were not perfect, no one is arguing that. Fallout 2 was rushed out, and was extremely buggy.
The other side of the argument is that there are people who praise Fallout 3 because it's like Oblivion (which was not perfect either). Quite pretty and still fun, but not as enthralling as the previous game was.
Again, one step forward in one place, a step back elsewhere.
What you get are two different trains of thought over one franchise's direction.
@AzureDrachen Yeah, I understand where you are coming from. I don't care for the 'go find your dad' quest because right out of the gate it's pretty much telling you where to go and giving you this rushed sense of urgency, which was the problem I also had with Oblivion. The first two Fallout's where more like 'go find this item...good luck locating it.' Which made it feel more natural to go explore. I haven't played New Vegas at all yet but I hear it's a lot better.
@TopherBlairMusic You mentioned you didn't like Fallout 2 because it reused Fallout 1s graphics. New Vegas is like that. In both cases, they came back with far more content and story rather than "new, updated graphics." New Vegas, for instance, there were more quests and things to do in the base game than there were in Fallout 3 and it's DLC combined.
On the other hand, like Fallout 2, New Vegas was rushed out to make its deadline and thus, was extraordinarily buggy (and still is).
@AzureDrachen Well I liked Fallout 2, honestly I loved it, I just said it wasn't perfect and that the old fanboys shouldn't keep acting like it was and that was one of the complaints I had. I've heard that about NV but I also heard it had a better story and it wasn't just VATS VATS VATS. I'll give it a try though and see for myself.
@TopherBlairMusic A lot of the F3 criticism comes from the nma-fallout and rpg-codex communities (with whom I sympathize more or less), mainly due to inconsistencies with F1/2 canon and a dip in writing quality. They are more oldschool rpg and less fps fans. Chris Avellone and a few others from Black Isle had a hand in New Vegas. it has a lot more nuance and humor in the script like F2 did, and uses some plot elements that were meant for Van Buren, so it's worth playing for that alone.
@nezimar What was changed in the Canon in 3? I didn't really notice anything off hand. I can say though that F2's humor was a bit lost on me. I didn't care for the joke of everyone being named after characters in movies or books. Really ruined the RPG experience IMO.
@TopherBlairMusic One inconsistency is the abundance of nuclear-powered cars which explode 200 years afterwards. One has to remember that gasoline was the fuel of choice in the US in 2077. To wit, because the US in Fallout had the last oil reserves, it's why China invaded Alaska (see: Operation Anchorage) and what kicked off the Great War.
"Wasn't the car in Fallout 2 nuclear powered?" No, the Highwayman was electric. You used power cells for energy weapons to charge the battery.
@TopherBlairMusic Another inconsistency is the rather large size of the Enclave in FO3. The Enclave in Fallout 2 was depicted as a relatively small organization with only a couple bases and limited manpower and resources. That Enclave's power base is broken when the Chosen One blows up the Oil Rig. The Enclave in Fallout 3 suddenly has buckets of men they throw at the Lone Wanderer and have the resources to create new power armor.
One -major- change is that Fallout 3 said that Aliens are canon with the Mothership Zeta DLC. In previous games, they were simply shout-outs/homages to the rubber-mask aliens seen in 1950s films who only appeared in special encounters, not meant to be taken seriously (along with Dr. Who and Monty Python and Star Trek). In Fallout 3, they're actually referenced in old reports and then get an entire expansion dedicated to them.
@TopherBlairMusic Azure has the canon right. The F1/2 script...has a darker feel and more complexity to the characters than what I see in 3. I didn't get a lot of references in F2 when I first played, but I do notice a more serious nature in the populace, reminds me more of Planescape Torment. F3 feels weaker in the depth of conversations and dialogue options. Less text to be sure. I keep in mind F3 is the first time every character has a real voice, so that's a bigger challenge dev-wise.
@MrNeoshredder The problem was that the actual RPG elements were missing (bad story, bad writing), and the "action"-oriented gameplay was linear and imbalanced. The RPG "system" was completely imbalanced, leaning heavily on combat skills. Past level 20, all balance was thrown out, and one could make a god character with 9s in all stats, eliminating the individuality of playing different characters who'd then have many maxed out stats.
@MrNeoshredder Can you point out where the RPG elements actually worked? Because I can certainly point out where the RPG elements were sorely lacking, or where the themes of the story failed.
RPGs, particularly ones like Fallout, are based around the idea of individualizing your play experience by allowing you choices. There's very little difference between playing as a "good" character and an "evil" character. At most, you have maybe two important choices throughout the entire game.
Eh, no, you have a bunch of choices in the game, and even if you didn't, it's not like you had that many choices that had a major impact like the choices in Fallout 3, in the previous games.
@MrNeoshredder Again, can you point out an example? If you think you didn't have "choices" in Fallout 1 or 2, I'm fairly sure you didn't actually play those games.
There's only two real choices in Fallout 3 - whether to blow up Megaton, and whether to blow up the Citadel or the Crawler in Broken Steel. Every other choice you make has no meaningful impact. No matter what, you still end up turning Project Purity on, blow up Raven Rock, kill Professor Calvert, kill some of the Outcasts, etc.
I have never played any of the other fallout games besides 3 and nv but I love them and bethasda's games

Warchicken47 2 months ago
@Warchicken47 The people on NMA have got to be the most bias fan base around, who shun literally everything made by Bethesda and seem to worship Interplay even though Interplay made those crappy Tactics and Brotherhood of steel titles. I admit, I love Fallout 1 and 2 and dialogue is a bit iffy sometimes in 3 and 3 does seem different, but the series needed a much needed reboot from turn based combat and isometric graphics to something else, which Interplay would of kept the same.
shakennotstirred17 2 months ago
@shakennotstirred17 You obviously haven't been to NMA for long. No one there is a big fan of Interplay. They're big fans of Black Isle Studios and Obsidian, but not Interplay. They hate what Interplay did with Brotherhood of Steel, and aren't too keen on Interplay's upcoming Fallout MMO.
Van Buren (the original Fallout 3 before it was cancelled) had real-time combat (turn-based was optional) and 3D graphics.
DevilTakeMe 2 months ago
@DevilTakeMe You're kidding me right? It's like a hostile planet on NMA. Like one of those stories where you walk into a seemingly nice town and then the villagers are chasing you with pitchforks because they're insane. Only in this case because you like Fallout 3. I managed on there only because I liked all of the games and not simply 3.
brandonhart61 1 month ago
@brandonhart61 That speaks more of the kind of people who are fans of Fallout 3 than anything else. I've been at NMA and at DAC and other "Fallout fansites" for years, and most Fallout 3 fans are just not capable of defending themselves or their own opinions, most often through a lack of knowledge or a childish mindset.
If the (Unwashed) Villagers are chasing you with pitchforks, it's mostly because you came into town to cause trouble. Bonus points if you get the reference.
DevilTakeMe 1 month ago
@DevilTakeMe Haha no, it's more like the other way around. And yes the Villagers plagued the Interplay forums or something but that has nothing to with what I said. Fall fansites are quite possibly some of the most negative and intolerable communities on the internet: very small, focused and bitter.
brandonhart61 1 month ago

I happen to know quite a bit about the games and I am actually not focused on one side as you may of gathered from my posts, I'm open minded in that I can find the pros and cons of the games. something that you apparently can't appreciate....
brandonhart61 1 month ago
@brandonhart61 Like I said, you -are- a bit naive. Being open-minded is good, but you're getting caught up in a lot crap and taking it at face value. Many like Bethesda just fine, just not what Bethesda did in Fallout 3. Most folks like Morrowind quite a bit and has had a mostly positive reaction to Skyrim, afterall.
Oblivion and Fallout 3 are mostly seen as "low points."
You want to see Irrational Hatred at NMA? Mention FOBOS or Interplay's management.
DevilTakeMe 1 month ago
@DevilTakeMe If you want to continue this conversation, that's fine but can we continue it in messaging on NMA? It's never nice to see an argument going on in the comments section Youtube.
brandonhart61 1 month ago
@brandonhart61 Fair enough. But again, saying Fallout fansites are nothing but a bunch of angry villagers with pitchforks is a touch naive.
All fansites have their angry villagers, etc.

badfart43 2 months ago
@Her0ofCha0s94 Considering how similar Fallout 3 is to Oblivion, it will probably be another two years or so for Fallout 4 to come out, longer if they make a new Fallout specific engine.

Why does everyone hate 3? Fallout 3 was a perfectly good and fun game (and yes I have played FO1&2)
mdude009 6 months ago
@mdude009 There's a lot of factors going into why 3 is regarded poorly. Gameplay wise, it was too easy with too many powerful weapons, enemies who were too easy to kill, excessively simple quests, too linear, etc. etc. Some felt it had too many of the problems Oblivion had.
For others, the game's setting was entirely too simplistic and nonsensical. If you tried to think about much of the game's situation, it didn't follow any believable sort of logic, unlike the earlier games.
AzureDrachen 6 months ago
@mdude009 I played F1 and F2 tho and F3 was gameplay and exploration wise was brilliant but the story was imo horrible and the writing sucked imo.Oh and the F3 ending THAT WAS HORRIBLE.
I would still give F3 a 9.

I never understood the hatred of Fallout 3. I loved and played the first two a lot and still loved 3. That's progress, it's not 1997 anymore.
TopherBlairMusic 7 months ago 24
@TopherBlairMusic I guess many people who played the originals didn't like shooter games and the fact that NCR and other western American themes were replaced by BoS and Washington D.C.
xOhhTwo 6 months ago
@TopherBlairMusic i hate the early fallouts cuz of the gameplay be i love fallout 3 and new vegas
treywar25 6 months ago
@treywar25 Okay
TopherBlairMusic 6 months ago
@TopherBlairMusic The problem is simply that the technology was put ahead of story and gameplay. Fallout 3 boasted a great looking game, lots of explosions, but there was little soul or thought put into what made Fallout different than other game franchises.
Some people say Fallout 3 is "Oblivion with Guns", which is appropriate. Oblivion was a step forward from it's predecessor Morrowind in many places, but steps backwards in others. The same is true with Fallout 3.
AzureDrachen 6 months ago
@AzureDrachen Yeah I agree with that, but I still had fun with 3 and that's really the bottom line that determines if I like a video game. I mean lets be honest, I actually had a lot of complaints with Fallout 2 back when it was out. My biggest being the recycled graphics from Fallout 1, which to me was just laziness. I think we should quit acting like, just speaking in general here, that the first two Fallout games were perfect and Bethesda has to live up to that standard. Cause they weren't.
TopherBlairMusic 6 months ago
@TopherBlairMusic The first two Fallout games were not perfect, no one is arguing that. Fallout 2 was rushed out, and was extremely buggy.
The other side of the argument is that there are people who praise Fallout 3 because it's like Oblivion (which was not perfect either). Quite pretty and still fun, but not as enthralling as the previous game was.
Again, one step forward in one place, a step back elsewhere.
What you get are two different trains of thought over one franchise's direction.
AzureDrachen 6 months ago
@AzureDrachen Yeah, I understand where you are coming from. I don't care for the 'go find your dad' quest because right out of the gate it's pretty much telling you where to go and giving you this rushed sense of urgency, which was the problem I also had with Oblivion. The first two Fallout's where more like 'go find this item...good luck locating it.' Which made it feel more natural to go explore. I haven't played New Vegas at all yet but I hear it's a lot better.
TopherBlairMusic 5 months ago
@TopherBlairMusic You mentioned you didn't like Fallout 2 because it reused Fallout 1s graphics. New Vegas is like that. In both cases, they came back with far more content and story rather than "new, updated graphics." New Vegas, for instance, there were more quests and things to do in the base game than there were in Fallout 3 and it's DLC combined.
On the other hand, like Fallout 2, New Vegas was rushed out to make its deadline and thus, was extraordinarily buggy (and still is).
AzureDrachen 5 months ago
@AzureDrachen Well I liked Fallout 2, honestly I loved it, I just said it wasn't perfect and that the old fanboys shouldn't keep acting like it was and that was one of the complaints I had. I've heard that about NV but I also heard it had a better story and it wasn't just VATS VATS VATS. I'll give it a try though and see for myself.
TopherBlairMusic 5 months ago
@TopherBlairMusic A lot of the F3 criticism comes from the nma-fallout and rpg-codex communities (with whom I sympathize more or less), mainly due to inconsistencies with F1/2 canon and a dip in writing quality. They are more oldschool rpg and less fps fans. Chris Avellone and a few others from Black Isle had a hand in New Vegas. it has a lot more nuance and humor in the script like F2 did, and uses some plot elements that were meant for Van Buren, so it's worth playing for that alone.
nezimar 5 months ago
@nezimar What was changed in the Canon in 3? I didn't really notice anything off hand. I can say though that F2's humor was a bit lost on me. I didn't care for the joke of everyone being named after characters in movies or books. Really ruined the RPG experience IMO.
TopherBlairMusic 5 months ago
@TopherBlairMusic One inconsistency is the abundance of nuclear-powered cars which explode 200 years afterwards. One has to remember that gasoline was the fuel of choice in the US in 2077. To wit, because the US in Fallout had the last oil reserves, it's why China invaded Alaska (see: Operation Anchorage) and what kicked off the Great War.
"Wasn't the car in Fallout 2 nuclear powered?" No, the Highwayman was electric. You used power cells for energy weapons to charge the battery.
AzureDrachen 5 months ago
@TopherBlairMusic Another inconsistency is the rather large size of the Enclave in FO3. The Enclave in Fallout 2 was depicted as a relatively small organization with only a couple bases and limited manpower and resources. That Enclave's power base is broken when the Chosen One blows up the Oil Rig. The Enclave in Fallout 3 suddenly has buckets of men they throw at the Lone Wanderer and have the resources to create new power armor.
AzureDrachen 5 months ago
One -major- change is that Fallout 3 said that Aliens are canon with the Mothership Zeta DLC. In previous games, they were simply shout-outs/homages to the rubber-mask aliens seen in 1950s films who only appeared in special encounters, not meant to be taken seriously (along with Dr. Who and Monty Python and Star Trek). In Fallout 3, they're actually referenced in old reports and then get an entire expansion dedicated to them.
AzureDrachen 5 months ago
@TopherBlairMusic Azure has the canon right. The F1/2 script...has a darker feel and more complexity to the characters than what I see in 3. I didn't get a lot of references in F2 when I first played, but I do notice a more serious nature in the populace, reminds me more of Planescape Torment. F3 feels weaker in the depth of conversations and dialogue options. Less text to be sure. I keep in mind F3 is the first time every character has a real voice, so that's a bigger challenge dev-wise.
nezimar 5 months ago
@TopherBlairMusic
I really don't see who could hate Fallout 3, it blended an action game with a full blown RPG system, that is an accomplishment.
MrNeoshredder 5 months ago
@MrNeoshredder The problem was that the actual RPG elements were missing (bad story, bad writing), and the "action"-oriented gameplay was linear and imbalanced. The RPG "system" was completely imbalanced, leaning heavily on combat skills. Past level 20, all balance was thrown out, and one could make a god character with 9s in all stats, eliminating the individuality of playing different characters who'd then have many maxed out stats.
It -tried-, but FO3 came up short.
AzureDrachen 5 months ago
@AzureDrachen
Still a great game.

I honestly think the First Person Perspective worked, it immersed you in the world more than the first two ever could.

MrNeoshredder 5 months ago
@AzureDrachen
Also, erm, all the RPG elements were there, I didn't really see any missing.
MrNeoshredder 5 months ago
@MrNeoshredder Can you point out where the RPG elements actually worked? Because I can certainly point out where the RPG elements were sorely lacking, or where the themes of the story failed.
RPGs, particularly ones like Fallout, are based around the idea of individualizing your play experience by allowing you choices. There's very little difference between playing as a "good" character and an "evil" character. At most, you have maybe two important choices throughout the entire game.
AzureDrachen 5 months ago
@AzureDrachen
Eh, no, you have a bunch of choices in the game, and even if you didn't, it's not like you had that many choices that had a major impact like the choices in Fallout 3, in the previous games.
MrNeoshredder 5 months ago
@MrNeoshredder Again, can you point out an example? If you think you didn't have "choices" in Fallout 1 or 2, I'm fairly sure you didn't actually play those games.
There's only two real choices in Fallout 3 - whether to blow up Megaton, and whether to blow up the Citadel or the Crawler in Broken Steel. Every other choice you make has no meaningful impact. No matter what, you still end up turning Project Purity on, blow up Raven Rock, kill Professor Calvert, kill some of the Outcasts, etc.
