Without unions or the Labor movement we would not have a minimum wage, overtime, child labor laws, weekends, or many of the safety regulations. It's a strange coincidence that most of our Recessions and Depressions came after periods of lax regulations and yet idiots keep crying for deregulation.
Right, but I should be free to join whichever union suits me. In the current system, I am forced to surrender my rights and pay to a union, even if it does not represent me. The unions you are talking about are unions of the past. The unions of now force people to join whether they are truly represented by that union or not.
i can't speak to what you are referring to. my own experience is that, in the past, worked at two two jobs where the unions made a vast difference between the unlivable minimum and close to minimum wages the employers paid us on their own accord, and the much better wages we ultimately got due to union efforts. and some idiots were still complaining about having to pay their union dues, which amounted to a drop in the bucket of our wage increases. go figure. not too bright.
@BanditoWalrusGames The whole point of a union is worker solidarity. If unions were competing and undercutting one another, that would benefit the bosses.
YES! Monday, on the national strike, I'm taking my guitar to Brussels and will sing this lyrics! Revolutionary greetings from Belgium!

Unions. Helping businesses move to china since 1970
mrfrednoname 5 months ago
@mrfrednoname As if corporate greed has nothing to do with those moves.
Rennpanzer 5 months ago
@Rennpanzer if you mean, the desire to make a profit and stay in business, then you are right.
mrfrednoname 5 months ago
@mrfrednoname Studies show that corporate profits have seldom, if ever, been higher and wages relatively lower than they are now.

@ThePunkPatriot Truth, unions drive business overseas.
mrfrednoname 5 months ago
@mrfrednoname No; Slave labor in China pulls business overseas, aided by politicians that deregulate and strip protections from our market.

Great cover, aside from this, my favorite versions have been by Woody Guthrie and The Dropkick Murphys.

Meh. I say fuck the corporations, and fuck the unions too. I'll surrender MY rights as a worker to no organization.

good luck having rights without a union & a society in which it can function...

@lamaddussa
Right. Cause I can't have any rights unless I sign them over to someone else. *sigh*

@BanditoWalrusGames
no, cause if you don't organize together with numbers of people to form an opposing power to those in power you'll never have any power...
