  • I remember stealing showtime by opening the box and putting a piece of paper in between the dial and the circuit board or whatever.

  • this is from 1984-1987

  • Every time I'd hear that voice over "The following...film...the following Feature....etc" It was almost, as for me as a kid in that decade, like being at an amusement park where the ride announcer says "Okay, buckles your seatbelts, hands on the rail and get ready for the ride". It was like that with movies during these late hours in the 80's to early 90's. GREAT TIMES AND GREAT MEMORIES!! THIS ROCKS! ;-)

  • XAAANADUUUUUU

Seriously, could this be more '80s?

  • Excellent video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Does anyone know the name of that movie with that one guy that did that thing with that other dude, and the chick was hot and she was wearing that sexy outfit and there was credits at the end?

  • Anyone remember the title of the movie about the guy thats dating a deaf girl and takes pictures of dog poop. His brother pissed him off saying he was a pervert because he dated a deaf girl and could call out any girls name when they "screw". At the end he runs off down the railroad tracks. What was the name of that movie?!

  • Anyone remember the name of showtime's Fairy Tale show they had for the kids back then? I remember it had a lot of celebrity guess stars.

  • Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre

  • Thank you so much ThreeOranges!!!!

  • I like the music. I think I have an idea of what showtime showed after hours, but I was too young in the 80s. Showtime was the best in the 80s. It's not that good anymore.

  • Hell, Cinemax was better back then. I don't like the new commercials that show a random scene without the commercial voice over guy.

  • What did Showtime After Hours show exactly?, the cable subscriber I have didn't pick up Showtime til about two years ago.

  • they showed mostly R rated and or adult films.I remember watching Bustin' Loose,Hollywood Knights, and Porkys.

  • Best decade ever!

  • I had this on A tape of Bustin Loose.

  • Today, Showtime (like it's sister channel, The Movie Channel) NOW airs R-rated films even during the daytime.

  • The Movie channel used to show R rated movies in the day back in the mid 80s too.Me and my cousin watched The Survivors with Robin Williams at like 3 in the afternoon.

  • I've heard they are more liberal. I'm surprised we don't have more restrictions since this country got on a conservative trend the past few years. You can't even listen to a song on the radio now without all the dirty words being cut out. So much for free speech.

  • I adore this video! :-D

    THANKS :-)

  • Those fancy computer graphics are so totally awesome! Bad-ass, even!

  • totally,dude!

i wonder if there are any more behind the scenes of how theyeve created this stuff! its fascinating! :]

  • I remember seeing a later one in the later 80's where it showed little clips of people getting intimate with each other (nothing explicit, of course), including 2 women about to kiss, if I remember correctly! Anyone got that one?

  • Whoa!!...I just had a flashback of sneeking and watching Showtime in 1984 after my parents had went to sleep.

  • Me too,I watched Hollywood Knights.

  • My parents had Hollywood Knights on tape from Showtime, and my brother and I found this intro many years later - we laughed hysterical at the announcer saying this movie would only air after 10 pm.

  • Funny, since Showtime has been playing THK over the past few months lately.

  • It's a good movie - my parents started exposing me and my brother to good movies from an early age, and I have a huge appreciation for the "classics" - Hollywood Knights being one of them.

My brother is a film buff, and I owe alot of that to what my parents raised us on.

  • knights is A classic, most critics call it A cheap rip off of American Graffiti, but I think it's funnier than Graffiti.

  • I think it is definitely funnier. My dad likes Robert Wuhl's character, and I still can't believe that was Fran Drescher!

  • Yeah I think,if I recall right,it was Wuhl's first big role.Fran had been in 2 other films prior to this, American Hot Wax(another 50ish period piece),and Saturday Night Fever.

  • Oh ok - remember the part hid in the bathroom and recorded the twins' conversation about the abortion in Tijuana, and then revealed his presence in the bathroom? Classic! And worse, he played it at the pep rally?

  • For Me,probably because I have A twisted sense of humor,My favorite scene was Newbomb(Wuhl)getting on stage, and farting the song"Voilaire".I enjoyed the scene with The Ironbox Twins As Well.

  • Same here LOL!

  • This music reminds of MACGYVER.

  • I like the earlier After Hours intro better, with the sax music. This intro is cool though.

  • Though it doesn't outmatch HBO's "space theme", Showtime still had this great theatrical one. Plus the later versions with the film reels and fireworks going off.

Funny how HBO *never* showed soft-core or suggestive material, but years later Real Sex, Sex in the City, Taxicab Confessions, etc.

  • I love this intro music, but remember being scared of the ratings bump.

  • I like this,I watched Bustin Loose,on after hours.

  • That's awesome! I watched Fire with Fire with my parents on after hours when i was a kid. LOL!

  • Awesome! I have been looking for that theme too, but there is one where they have the film strips going across the screen but with the same music. I hope somebody has that one!

  • That's the one i remember! I have it on VHS but not sure how to upload it on here...

  • You should somehow get it burned to a DVD, or something, then upload it. That would be awesome!

  • OOOH yeah! Didn't think about that...I will work on that.

  • I remember this, but I gotta tell you.I liked the earlier after hour bump better. The music was more sensual. This music sounds like An 80's action show.

  • He does sound like John Vernon!

  • A Snapper , A snapper!!!

Remember that? Those movie got me "through" the night during my teen years. I would massage the horny cramps while every one was sleeping. I was a naughty lil boy.

  • Hmm, what followed this bumper, "Emanuelle in Bangkok?" :) Boy I miss the old days when cable showed 70s exploitation and not the glossy garbage they show now.

  • People In New York City Can See It At 10PM/Chicago Can See It At 9PM/Salt Lake City Can See It At 8PM/People In Los Angeles And San Francisco Can See It At 7PM

  • Where I grew up, Showtime on a primitive cable system was located as a scrambled picture on channel 3B, with a special box your cable company would give you, you can get the channel anyway, this was 25 years ago of course.

  • I miss Showtime After Hours back in the 80's that show so rated R movies back then at 10:00pm!

  • SO people in Chicago could see rated R movies earlier?

  • People in Cali could catch this @ 8:00! New York 10:00!

  • I stayed in a hotel in Missasauga, Ontario back in '91, and my mom turned on the TV in the hotel room, and BAM! boobs on TV. It was early too - before 10 pm.

My dad said that when he used to go on business trips to Toronto (he worked for a company HQ there until 1998, when he went to a company based in our home state, NJ), there were "dirtier" movies on TV at 8 pm. This owes in part to a more liberal government, or at least a more relaxed FCC equivalent. No "safe harbor" involved here!

  • God "Hollywood Knights",i remember staying up real late to watch that when i was a kid.Oh man those were fun times.Corny film but a lot of fun to watch.God i miss the 80's hehe :-)

  • Actually,I take That back;I watched Bustin'Loose on Showtime which was rated R,and since it was R-rated;it must've been on After Hours.

  • I've never seen this one before, probably because when we had Showtime I was 7.I would've got punished for watching this. The Showtimes ratings guy is kinda scary, but the ratings guy on early 80's Hbo terrified me,and so did the rocket ship;anyone else?

  • the song sounds as if were an e.b.m. tune.

  • The announcer sounds like he belongs at either an easy listening or jazz radio station.

  • this was back when showtime was cool unlike today where they suck this was also back in the day when showtime had movies you see on hbo or cinemax growing up we had hbo but iremember seeing this at a friends house a few times with the tune

  • Yeah, Showtime had better commercials back then. I remember those days when there would be the same movie on HBO depending on the studio (mostly Universal and Fox) that they shared instead of exclusive (Showtime and Paramount,HBO and Columbia) back then.

  • I remember a time when I was 3 or 4 the rating announcemt on these channels scared me, especially Showtime. It seemed like this announcer was better suited for a classical music radio station the way he commands his voice.

  • The Guy on Early 80's Hbo scared me,but Showtime's guy was creepy too.I guess rating bumpers scared many of us Mid 20,30 somethings.

  • The Following Film Has Been Rated R Restricted, By The Motion Picture Industry's Rating System. Showtime Recommends That Children Under 17 View This Picture Only In The Company Of An Adult. Beacuse Of It's Subject Matter, This Particular Film Will Be Presented By Showtime Only After 10:00 PM/9:00 PM Central

  • "Children Under 17 View This Picture Only In The Company Of An Adult" So what they were suggesting is that kids watch this with their perverted uncles or whatnot.

  • It's Tittie Time!

  • I remember this, however the version I saw was scrambled. Well that's how it was when one doesn't pay for Showtime but I could still hear the audio. I think I remember some scrambled nipples too.

  • I remember ON TV & Select TV. *sigh* Porn with squiggly bar running through the middle. hah!

  • I remember that. You can hear it but couldn't see it. It was like rainbow squiggly lines.

It was like on channel 99 or something right

  • How could you remember that? You are 18! In any case, here in L.A. it was like channel 56 or something.

  • It is because we use to have many of those squiggly channel in Texas. For us in was channel 46-70 and 99

We only had channel 2-45 but before that we only had channels from 2-29.

    It wasn't that long ago.

  • God, I remember these days. My brother and I were watching a videotaped copy of "Hollywood Knights" in 2000, and we saw this disclaimer and cracked up. My how things change!

  • Now, Showtime shows R-rated films everyday since the late 80s.
