The purpose of this show is to help people BEFORE it becomes overwhelming to them. Most hoarders start out this way and then quickly get overwhelmed by health issues, financial etc. THAT is when the trouble starts. This show is trying to help them before it gets to that point. I am on Season 2. I contacted the show for my mother. I would like to tell you that they manipulated many scenes and twist the actual situations. They had us do things that were completely false and act out lies.My mothers kittys were healthy happy country kitties. We both work so hard to clean up and care for them. Yet Animal planet only wanted to focus on whatever dirt they could dig up! Horrible expierence! Regret ever asking for help! They only care about making the people look terrible!
She could be the cleanest person in the world, but with 65 cats indoors, the stench of ammonia from cat urine is unavoidable. One cat can produce smells in a well kept house, 65 is disgusting. I don't own any animals, but I notice immediately when I meet someone if they own an indoor animal. Hair/fur and odor are present, even if they don't think so. It is, and it is noticable!
On one hand he says "It's all material stuff, it can be replaced" and on the other he says they can't afford de-sexing, so they let them breed and breed so they have to pay more and more on cat food.

It may seem cute seeing all those cats in a person's home, but hoarding these poor things is not fair, especially to them. Seeing how there's so many cats for a decently small amount of space, having litters of newborns that will likely be unwanted because shelters flood with enough cats (and these cats aren't even fixed which causes more of the problem). Imagine the smell that can be at that house because of them plus they're not fixed and keep multiplying? Very upsetting on the owner's part.

I think she has a great thing going.
All she needs to do is have all of her cats fixed and give her little kittens (once fully weaned) to a shelter where they can be put up for adoption, and hopefully she can get her numbers down to a point where they are more manageable.
I highly doubt she realized what her cats had done on top of the kitchen cabinents.
If she had 30 fixed cats, maybe even more and they had a clean, fresh air, and peaceful environment it wouldn't be a big deal.

I believe that this is one of the most SELFISH acts anyone can do. She said (on the show) that she can't have children, so this is how she compensates? They should try to find them homes and then look into adopting a REAL BABY. no adoption agency on earth would ever give them an opportunity to adopt once they did a home inspection. POOR CATS!!!

Its not like some people who find dead cats under the couch and they didn't even know that cat was ever alive. They don't want a real baby. They never once said they wanted a real baby. So it doesn't matter if an adoption agency would approve or not. They love their cats. They are their children.

Both Shelly and her husband are HORDERS, no matter how much the deny it. If they were my relatives I would take them out to dinner and while they were out, I would have someone come in and take them ALL. Obviously they are not in their right state of mind no matter what anyone says. It is cruel and inhumane to keep that many animals just to make yourself feel better. There should be a law that prohibits this. I feel bad for the cats. Do you think they like living like that? they are screwballs.

I am on Season 2. I contacted the show for my mother. I would like to tell you that they manipulated many scenes and twist the actual situations. They had us do things that were completely false and act out lies.My mothers kittys were healthy happy country kitties. We both work so hard to clean up and care for them. Yet Animal planet only wanted to focus on whatever dirt they could dig up! Horrible expierence! Regret ever asking for help! They only care about making the people look terrible!

She could be the cleanest person in the world, but with 65 cats indoors, the stench of ammonia from cat urine is unavoidable. One cat can produce smells in a well kept house, 65 is disgusting. I don't own any animals, but I notice immediately when I meet someone if they own an indoor animal. Hair/fur and odor are present, even if they don't think so. It is, and it is noticable!

It may seem cute seeing all those cats in a person's home, but hoarding these poor things is not fair, especially to them. Seeing how there's so many cats for a decently small amount of space, having litters of newborns that will likely be unwanted because shelters flood with enough cats (and these cats aren't even fixed which causes more of the problem). Imagine the smell that can be at that house because of them plus they're not fixed and keep multiplying? Very upsetting on the owner's part.

If you can clean up, feed, and take keep them healthy and play with them like she seems to do... then why not? I have 7 and 1 inside dog but do to all my health problems my house is not kept up but my cats are fed and healthy/happy.

I wouldn't care that she has 65 cats if she were a responsible owner. Providing shelter and food isn't all a cat needs. She can't afford to neuter/spay them, so they will just keep adding to the already exploding population of unwanted cats in the world. You can sure as hell bet they are vaccinating them either, or providing proper vet care.
