16:9 isn't that awful compared to 4:3. If you are seriously against it, just hook it up via an external monitor using VGA. I am about to purchase a Thinkpad T510 which I can use for video editing (it has ieee1394 port). You guys should be grateful that Lenovo has not radically ruined the Thinkpad line. You can't have everything.
My son has just bought the ThinkPad Edge 15" and by most accounts, it seems to be a solid platform with all the nessesary functions & features a college student needs. The only negative issues we have experienced are that the troubleshooting/user guide are more likely to be usefull as a drink coaster or paper for lighting a grill than for consulting, should you have trouble! Webcam works very well, but has no shortcut, button,or widget and (likely due to user error) will not take pics.PLZ HELP!!!
If it was called Lenovo Edge i would've bought it but after naming it ThinkPad Edge i changed my mine!!! don't get me wrong I'm a ThinkPad fan but that shiny thing is ain't a ThinkPad!!!
This is stupid. Just call it an IdeaPad because that's what it is.
ThinkPad Classic shouldn't be called classic either. They got rid of the 4:3 displays for 16:9 widescreens which offer less area. Are business users using their ThinkPads primarily for viewing widescreen movies these days or for work?
They should all be renamed IdeaPad because ThinkPad is officially dead.
I like the LED in the "i" idea, but dropping the other LEDs does not make me happy-- I use look at them all the time to determine hd utilization, power state [charged/not] wireless state.
Also, removing keys sounds good on the surface, but printsc/sysrq is important for debugging things. I assume it's just been moved to a function combination instead of outright removed.
"Remove LED's that people don't use or don't need" Yeah, sure. Just another way to say "we saved another $5". The race to the bottom. What LEDs are there: Well, on my T61 I have: Power Sleep Battery Charger HDD W-LAN BT And I use them all and don't want to loose any.
I also have a T61 and I have to agree with you. I love know what is working/on and what isn't. But it seems like there going for a more streamline design and I like that.
correct me if i'm wrong but does lenovo have a IdeaPad brand, is that not marketed as a home computer. as much as i hate to say it i love my ugly black box, its simple, not glossy so finger prints don't show, if it gets scratched. i like my LEDs i use them to tell if my wifi is on, or my caps lock, it tells me if i'm super low on battery too. i guess imo i don't think lenovo needs to make an eye candy thinkpad...

SysRq key was used for IT to communicate with a company's mid-range computer for different tasks.

I have this laptop. Its very stylish and sturdy (nothing compared to a metal rollcage ofcourse).
Nothing wrong with this machine other than its name, rubs old time thinkpad users the wrong way.

thats the reason i got a dell latitude over a thinkpad this xmas to replace my dead x60.
5 yrs ago i wouldnt think of buying a dell but since thinkpads seemed to have strayed from business-class i felt i had no other choice
ahh lovin my vertical screen real estate ;-)

I hope you guys propagate this design to the SL series, or just drop the SL series in favor of the EDGE series.
