To see elephants inside a Ringling Circus box car, search for the YouTube video entitled Elephants On Ringling Bros. Train by Pat Cuvrie. I rest my case.
What is there to celebrate about a train that ships animals? They are chained and caged 24/7 and only let out when they perform. The animals' existence is a living death. Since they have to stand for days at a time in their own excrement (dung for you circus carnies), a lot of the elephants have contracted TB.
I agree with what anb740 said. They are not chained and caged in those trains - in some cars, they get free roam. And it isn't really that we're circus carnies, we just don't happen to see circus trains every day.
You're kidding right? The animals on this train get treated better than some humans I know! The Humane Society and other animal rights groups see to that.
Even the best zoos in the country struggle to provide adequate habitats for their exotic animals. There is simply no way that circuses can provide anything near a proper and adequate life for their animals who travel much of the year from state to state. Moving trains and trucks are horrible living quarters for them. Period.
There goes my train car! Tonight we're starting a train run from Cleveland to Chicago. We'll be in Chi-town 4 weeks. I'm so thrilled to go FOUR WEEKS without a train run! Don't have to worry about waking up and looking out my window and seeing camcorders everywhere. Just kidding. But it pays to remember to shut the blinds while dressing. Just because the past 9 hours was nothing but countryside doesn't mean there won't be 4 guys with camcorders at the next railroad crossing...
Thats pretty amazing! I did not know the circus still traveled by train. I have always seen them here in California all shipped by 18 wheelers on surface streets.
Wow, that brought back some memories. Nice to see my old home, though it looks like they replaced all the "Greatest Shoe on Earth" globes with blue ones (they used to be red to match the unit).
I've got a little bit of footage shot form when I was with the circus. But this was way before DV Camcorders and all that :o). I got a little bit of video of the living quarters being put together as well as a bit of footage when the train derailed (nothing serious, but it happened right underneath my room). I wish I had more video, but alas most of it was accidentally destroyed :o(
this is the blue unit, not the red...

Thats the kind of thing that makes me sorry that the tracks here are almost exclusively coal cars. Love to see that pass by.
