I've had the Type R's for 3 years now and I have not one bad thing to say about them. Maybe those subs are good, but the Alpine models are not junk by any means. The Alpine Amps I've had them on have also not given me a single probelm in 3 years. Insane quality and you're here calling them junk.

The type r's have good sound low distortion and I do like the enclosed box because it prolongs the life of your subs from to much excursion. If you went with a ported box you would get twice the performance. Those subs can do a lot more with a ported box also get a bass cap or extra battery it will give you a more consisten bass with songs that have deep bass.

If you got a better head unit it would sound alot better. I recommend buying one that is 200watts putting 50watts x 4 out. And 12s sound best with the amp set at 80hz and the headunit set at 80hz under your subwoofer setting..so pretty much everything at 80hz...if you have low pass knob on your amp try to get to it what you think is 80hz. This is crazy because I used to have the same Kenwoods as you and then I went to Alpine Type Rs also..I will have a video up soon you should check it out!

@sXemiller but how does that work? the rms is 1000w @ 2ohm for the mrp-m1000, each speaker is 600rms either 4 or 2 ohm. so depending on which set you have is how the ohm load is going to impede. with two 4ohm 12"s wired at 2ohm is almost perfect for 1000w rms 2000w max amp. right?
