hes a legendary producer on the boards but he aint shit without the people who work with him. from dj quik, daz in the deathrow days, to storch, elizondo, batson, parker, mr porter, nottz, focus, mel-man and dj khalil in the last decade.

without them dre is nothing.

Kind of sounds like Timbaland. Well I have several albums of artists that he's produced for. In the liner notes, Timbo always does the drum programming while the co-producer, which was Danja, Jerome Harmon or the whole Royal Court, or Hannon Lane did the other instruments. People give Timbo too much credit. Although, a producer is the one that controls the direction of the sound, they don't necessarily play the instruments.

@garisbaldeagle Timbo and Dre are birds of a feather. Timbo probably make better beats by himself but Dre is the conductor of the orchestra so arguably is the better overall package.

Still, they gotta have good people working under them otherwise they're really not much to write home about.

In terms of strict production/beat making esp from scratch, production teams like 1500 or nothin, justice league, cool and dre are pretty damn good.
