Just to say, there's a new young ska band called Too Spicy Ska, mix punk/ska, remind me a bit of the Ruts but more on the ska side. Watch out for them!
thanks for posting this. never thought id ever see live footage of the ruts with malcolm owen. they sound great. wasnt old enough to see them but a big junior fan in their brief heyday.
video culled from form 'les enfants du rock', march or apriil 1980. saw a bunch of great bands then. cure, ruts, clash, etc, all of them live. living in italy in the late 70s early 80s was not an easy task from a musical point of view .
@circleoffools I wish it happened but being French and therefore familiar with French TV, I doubt it. I wouldn't even bet that they still have the tapes.
@bassboy17290 the reason is because they were a top band in the early 80s who were brave enough to mix punk and reggae when it was a time of a lot of unrest between black and white. They bridged a big gap with the help of misty in roots in very touchy times.Me and my mates punx and skins luved what they stood for .Also they were fukin tops hope this helps u understand what they were all about.
If time travel was a reality I would rescue Malcolm Owen, what he could have done with the Ruts would have been awesome. Jah wars and Babylons burning are probably the best songs ever written by white men. Awesome awesome band and much lamented.
Steve spot on mate again...what they could have done together..we'll never no but just look at the stage presence the feel, Owens voice, anger but seductive and boy could they play...brilliant single perhaps the best of 1979 easy. Punks get critized for not being able to play but the Ruts were not in that category. Do you like the Redskins?
WOOOOOW. I never thought I would ever see this band live. They rank as high as the ZOUNDS goes for best album amoung the little dead end kids from upstate New York. Every song on this album was absolutely fabulous. Thank you so much for uploading. We , as mankind, will forever Thank YOU for showing the world. M" we have been missing him for many years and will do so for many more to come. MY MY what could have been. We love you.
Love these songs, and great to see them live ! ... I still have the single of Jar War ... Wayne

I always wondered what the rest of the 80's would have done for The Ruts was Malcom to have survived.
orangesfromlondon 2 years ago 2
Sometimes I always thought The Ruts would make an amazing reggae band other than being possibly one of the greatest punk bands in existence.

Best punk reggae song ever. Hm, maybe besides Guns of Brixton from the Clash.
