I just loved this documentary. I thought it was relatively even handed. I mean look at the stonings and executions in today's Iran and just imagine their interrogation methods. I am sure that what is happening in Iran today is no better than what happened during the Shah's regime. I think that Queen Farah is a true Queen in her actions and words. I live in the USA and no one here judges me according to my husband's actions. Long live Queen Farah. AND JANN rules as a modern documentarian!

Watching this and not being Iranian made me real open to both sides of the situation. I found myself in tears in some parts especially when both parties had encountered loses and both are exile from their beloved country.

The Queen is right, you were the most developed country in the Middle east, do not expect a Democracy similar to Sweden, France or USA in middle east EVER!, Soviet Union wanted Iran under it's umbrella, SavaK did it's job, duties, and did many wrong things too, and still worse, SAVAK betrayed SHAH. a secular democracy is a democracy that doesn't follow any religion and does not implement religious law onto its people. yes secular democracy can exist and does exist in many countries (france, usa, etc.). A monarchy is not always better, depending on the government. Yes a democracy and a monarchy can coexist. People deserve the government they live under. The Pahlavi kings weren't perfect but they pushed really hard to advance their nation. Their biggest weakness was that they were dealing with a nation of muslims who were, as we have seen, not capable of progress without force. The late Shah of Iran , despite all the allegations of torture and oppression against him, was too kind and lenient with the communists and the clergy. Iran needed a man like Ataturk who put a leash on the muslim clergy.
