  • i hope the stranglers carry on even if the original members all die...the music is so special

  • still said it is smooth, no matter the video, block that away, scroll up, and just listen to the tune

  • THIS SUCKS, I, MEAN, NOT THE SONG, BUT THE FASHION IT IS NOW VIEWED AND UNABLE TO ACCESS THROUGH MY ORIGINAL ACCOUNT

  • LOVE THE VIDEO BUT HATE UTUBE SINCE GOING PUBLIC

  • Another great track from the MiB

  • notice how the sail looks like a woman`s buttocks - something to be said about subliminal seduction

  • 5 people deserve the blood eagle.

  • fekn brilliant album ,thanks for puttin on.....some sleaazebag nicked mine....

  • "When I Was A Viking My Friend He Was The Raven".......Sublime........

  • @0166four and this rightfully is... the top comment! But... will THEY let it go on top?..

  • This album just blows your socks off with bass and keyboards. JJ and Dave must have loved it!

  • A MASTER OF A SONG--JJ BASS LINE RIPS AT HIS BEST--

  • Great tune....Flies straight and with perfection.

    :-)

  • its me again im just reading orther comments lol why dose people get angry when 1 dissagrees... hes allowed to. this is the price of free speech u have to hear all sides.

  • what a tune! these kinda tunes u can listen to over and over again and they dont get annoying!

shame theres not so many like them or myby its a good thing!

  • Possibly the most under-rated album ever. Pure class.

  • y'idiot - that's a quote from john peel.

you'll probably have to google him to find out who he was

  • Liked the way the album took 3 tracks for Cornwell to start singing lol

  • This track is simply magical.I'm 48 years old, and both my "Kids" LOVE this...coz I Brainwashed them!!!. however, being "a total Strangler" ,(so I like to think) I actually feel that the track "Relentless" from "Suite XVI" actually eclipses this track.

  • Bands like The Stranglers were the benchmark for so many others. When folks started to realise they were not "punks" and had true talent, they produced some of the best music in their era. Despit the absence of Hugh Cornwell, they are still performing today and the songs sound as good as ever. That is quality over 30+ years.

  • @0630nicknu

This man speaks the truth. :-)

  • @louis0121 Thank you. I reckon from about 1980 to 1990, I saw them in concert about 20 times and each gig was brilliant. All of the band had ability, and the songs were really tight and together. They had the talent to pen a real cross section of sounds from slow balads and waltzes to piledriver tunes that knocked me out. That and the fact that they never took themselves too seriously, made them an institution and I am glad that The Stranglers were part of my youth.

  • I just realised that the album has a viking theme. I feel suddenly very stupid.

  • @AtticusStount

Dont lose any sleep, its only the first two tracks!

  • MUCH LOVE.

  • WOW That just blew me away!!!

    Incredible Song

    :)

  • there is no musicians today its all manufactured .5 boys or girls stood there singing meaningless crap .cant play any instruments or write songs .music started to die early 90s when stock aitken and the other money grabbing twat came on the scene .

  • "I am white sometimes I behave just like a child."

  • scheiß amis boat people

  • @Zahlnullbis9 Verpiss dich!

  • europe forever

  • i am one of those vikings traced the family name we raped and pillaged in that shithole liverpool thankfully now resideing jn manchester

  • Was just introduced to this band. I quite like them n_n

  • These fucking Vikings raped and butchered whole swathes of Northern England back in the 9th/10th centuries... and now it's the turn of the Greasy Islamic Horde to try and have a go. They'll lose.... it may take some time but they always do!

  • @Loobs666

    What the fuck.

    Are people this retarded?

  • Ok I go back a long way with this track & this wonderful band. Raven sounds as good now as when I first heard it, I just love it & that's the way it is.

I can analyse this track from start to finish which will be of interest to musicians/academics but the bottom line is that this was and is one of the greatest British tracks ever.

    End of.

  • Ooooooooooh.

    Fucking *BRILLIANT*, isn't it?

I recommend the album as a whole, possibly best Stranglers LP *ever*. :)

  • talking about music is as relevant as dancing about architecture.

  • @DIACElectronicMusic That's because you're into souless rubbish.

  • real class

  • greatest band e.v.e.r

  • LOL...4 don't like.....WTF...LOL....must be brain dead

  • best song ive ever heard

  • Best intro ever!!!

  • My all time favourite Stranglers song, defo!!

  • They have so many good songs but The Raven is DEFINITELY my favorite. Genius

  • great tune .....brings back a miss spent youth

just 1 prob at 3:19 a man kills another with the back of his axe

  • BRILLIANT! These vids are really good (As well as the musi, OBVIOUSLY)

    STRANGLERS RULE!!

  • well done. great pacing

  • loving the period ships! well done!

  • Recognize the movie now: The Vikings starring kirk doug and the other guy, tony.

  • Love the bit of film.

  • They have concocted some great songs over the years. Their last two albums have at least half a dozen gems. I got Norvegicus in 1977, all of it is genius. They were pretty much untouchable when they did this in 1979. Hugh Cornwell was the voice, yet Jean Perma-Young was the correct vocal man on this. It doesn't get any better than this.

  • semplicemente perfetto

  • Thats the Stranglers;;get scared, You[ll be whacked.. And the Spanishes kicked while while waiting----

  • Thats the Stranglers;;get scared, You[ll be whacked..

  • excellent track

  • fantastic

  • Ravens, Rooks, Crows, etc have been found to be closer to man than dogs. They can problem solve. 1.

  • Make a NewGen listener, listen to this and they will automatically hate it becuase it's old. AMIRITE?

  • Its one of the most "progressive" albums I've ever heard, for example in this song the instruments are playing separate harmonies/melodies for large parts of it - GENIUS !!!

  • @thescreamsmusic

...and yet it all merges together perfectly to form a unique sound. A true band effort and very refreshing. I feel sorry for some bands who just stand there bashing out three or four chord backing tracks while the guitar player goes off on yet another ego trip (yawn). As you quite rightly say...GENIUS.

  • you would have thought as time goes on music gets better .... it clearly doesnt

  • @lewisself you realize how many generations of music fans have incorrectly asserted that, right?

  • Comment removed

  • @digglescham I dont even know what asserted means, I was only saying music back then was wayyyy better than modern crap

  • @lewisself what I meant is, every generation claims that the new music is bad. This isn't true at all. You seem to be forgetting that the airwaves were dominated by silly, vacuous music during the stranglers time too. My generation is making amazing music, but its soooooo much more difficult to get attention in today's intolerably over-saturated market. Today's music industry is worse, yes, but the music isn't.

  • @digglescham Totally agree. When I was a teenager in the early 80s, we hated the music that was in the charts then, we bought 60s and 70s stuff. Yet I play the 80s stuff now as it reminds me of my youth and therefore nostalgic. The amount of times I have seen post sby young Folk claiming that their generations music is crap compared to way back when, but the fact is as time goes on, it is harder to sound unique and in time we will look back on this era and appreciate "some" music produced now.

  • @digglescham it has always been this way. Programmes work to dilute anything of quality from the heart. The internet although closely monitored is a great avenue for artists. Quality finds quality.

  • @digglescham I see what you're saying but the actual music industry has become so obsessed with profit for pleasure that the standards have slipped in favour of $'s "New music",exists when it has something to offer and the industry has hampered the development of so many innovative acts as they're not a "safe bet".Comparing the inventive, explosion of musicians/songwriters from mid/late '70's to early '80's is nice but I hear a lot of Joy Division,Cure,Pistols soundalikes. But not original quality

  • @digglescham True. I'm an older guy, but I can always find good stuff if dig a little bit. Lots of good new music out there.

  • @MusicMissionary thats real refreshing to hear, thank you sir:)

  • @digglescham

Glad I' not the only one out there who sees this =)

  • @lewisself that just means you are geting real old now :)

  • @Noisyfm1 im 16 ......

  • awesome

  • This album was one of my favs. People just don't realise how good these guys were so unique.

  • ..matematiche senza opinioni..armonie che si lasciano:seguimi che vado da tergo=zenithstranglers

  • ...I believe the Sex Pistols are the 4 blokes voting thumbs down this vid...

  • up-helly-aa in Cornwall? It's only verging on 32 but, yeah, still causes goose bumps and not goo dumps. Strang's finest hour. How bigger in Portugal could they get? They Opened the mythic 9-day edtion of Vilar de Mouros 1982 festival, subtle as M4 Shermans. Ha, time machines me...

  • brill ill be there on sat 26/03/11 40th time haaaaaaaaa manc academy been wathing them since 1977 check my vid aswell me singing haaa

  • my all time time fav punk band

  • @pedrofaba and mine

  • This i believe is the latest Thomas Cook cruise to the Norwegian Fiords but because of the savage Government cuts those who booked late expecting a good deal had to dress in period costume and row themselves.

Not one of the Stranglers better tunes but an amazing video to accompany it.

  • Best video & song combination on youtube!

  • Fuckin RAD!! Way Cool, man!!

  • Always has been one of my favs by them, and definately my favorite Stranglers album.I still have the limited edition 3d album cover.

  • Wow!! I was allready a BIG fan in '79 but this song stole my heart forever... Dave's PPG sounds terrific.

    Thanks for posting resmeister.

It reminds me of the first time I played this full blast as a teenager....that was the first time I was excommunicated from the family ....second time was when I told a porky pie about homework at my friends house and instead went to a Stranglers gig..and was found out. Mind you, I guess the broken stilettos and Stranglers tshirt my mum found in my school bag were incriminating evidence..lol

  • absolute superb!!

  • one of my favorite songs, glad to see some viking action!

people give the stranglers crap for leaving punk behind, but you would never have the raven otherwise!

  • Great job on the video! One of the best fan videos I have seen, and in the absence of an "official" video of The Raven, it is certainly the best version on You Tube. The live versions are all of poor quality. Good job!

    Christian in Zurich

  • Thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it :)
