  • this is the elegy shift?

  • this is one of the best effects i have ever seen although i like patrik kuns performance better still an awesome trick tho

  • nice trick and performance....

  • it looks like alex ward elegy shift

  • It looks like alex ward elegy shift which was out mid of last year..

  • Awesome trick !

Can the card be push about half way into the pack ? the effect could be better =)

  • Awesome trick !!

I think if you push the selection a little bit more into the pack ( about half way) it could be more magical :)

  • FIGURED IT OUT!

  • I can see some elegy shift in it...

  • @seboke I can see you are new to card magic :)

  • cool ^_^

  • Ooooo, I love it!

  • Cool!!...just like real magic :D

  • does this use gimmicks?

  • looks great! keep up the great work!

  • I need a new set of ocular orbs -- this video fried mine!... Woo woo!...

  • WOW. AMAZING. can i just ask how you get your ideas from? as in do these effects just pop up in your mind or what?

  • @icannotmakeapassword Not exactly my friend - I've been working on this one for about 9-10 years!

  • Clean Visual and stunning!!!!!!! Amazing work Mr Fisher!!!!! I must say i am once again amazed!

  • very cool Aaron...your gravity pass is still one of my favorites!! nice video on Domincan TV!!

  • Great handling! Congrats from Argentina. I noticed that lately there are more short card routines like yours and Bill Goodwin. There are no more 5-min. tricks with story but direct and mindblowing effects. Why do you think it´s that?

  • This looks pretty amazing.

Do you like to use it as a stand alone effect?

or do you like to put it in a ambitious routine?

  • @Jok3r3241 Both! but since you have to establish the effect before you begin - even as a stand alone effect, it's like a short ambitious card routine!

  • WOW Aaron. This looks really really good.

I really enjoy the mood you give to this effect. Dramatic tension and all.

    I like it.

Is the "slow motion" type of effects (Search and Destroy, Golden Nugget from your book, and now this.) a Jennings influence on you? haha :)

    Eager to see this released.

    Martin.

  • looks really good. But it really shortens up the routine. Or it could be used as a capper to a regular routine.

  • @fleetman08 you bet!

  • Is this called the graduate because it's so seductive?

  • I like how this move is visual in a static sort of way. You don't actually see the card move, but it still happens in full view. It's a very unusual approach theatrically. Good stuff!

  • @greatsandini Thanks man!

  • @greatsandini i guess, but think about how people will remember the effect, they'll remember it as SEEing it rise through the cards.

  • Nice handling. Love AC; but, this is a nice variation. I am curious about angle limitations; but, in your hands it is a thing of beauty.

  • awesome effect, this combined with search and destroy and you have a killer combo

  • can't WAIT for this release! GREAT JOB!

  • It's taken me a couple of days to get to watching this, but wow, Aaron, you've done it again. The AC routine is one of those done-to-death effects, and I always like to see new handlings. Visual with good angles? I look forward to learning it. Thanks.

  • Love it! As always. :) I'd love to know how it's done, partly just to know, but also because I always find the thinking behind your effects to be really instructive in itself.

  • very cool

    way to go Aaron

cant wait to check this out further

  • Simply amazing, it still looks very magical even though the card is face down. It seems like most slow-mo ambitious card are face up nowadays, but that's neither here nor there. Thanks Aaron for releasing this little bit of magic to us and for all the inspiration you've given me over the past couple of years

  • Hi Aaron, Carsten here from Germany. "The Graduate" looks very good - it´s amazingly clean and the angles are very good. If you need someone to review it and spread the word in German magic forums, let me know.

  • Ahhh just came home and watched your ambitious card move. Needless to say, it made me sit up and take notice. Then watched it again and again. I loved it! so very clean (no surprise from Aaron). No movement and slow! I loved that it was so slow. That makes it all that much more interesting. Great job!

  • Aaron, Unbelievable, if only I had time and talent

  • I've been performing Shigeo Futagawa's move for a similar effect, but I love how clean this looks Aaron. The lack of motion is brilliant.

  • @Kapuchka I prefer the Futagawa method as well - it's my favorite!

  • nice move Aron good don to greetings son of Kaps

  • coooooool !!!!

    really liked the video :)

  • Looks Great Aaron! One of my favorites from FISM 2003. Can't wait

  • @vernon1981 i think you'll find it's a different sleight under the hood. you're gonna love it!

  • DAMMIT! I wanted to leave a comment to enter to win a free copy, but I have to clean my house now due to my mind being COMPLETLY blown. Thanks Aaron. Sheesh.

  • dis sounds cool look cool. Can't wait!

  • Hello Aaron, I have been a fan of yours the last 2 years or so, and have been a professional magician for the last 4 years. I have just a few questions along the way to ask:: 1- How do you define the reasoning behind the ambitious card, or in other words the relationship with technique, presentation, and how the audience perceives it. 2- Do you believe there is a boundary in which an effect is too good to be true or where technique can overdo the effect your trying to accomplish?

  • @michaelweiss9024

    1) i don't understand the first question buddy.

    2) there is a line for sure - but it's on a case by case basis!

  • @aaronbfisher

For the first question, I apologize on my behalf, I was running on 2 hours of sleep, but essentially the ambitious card plot has been around for quite some time, for your effect, personally who or what effect was the handling that inspired you to create this?

  • That is so clean! A bit beyond my ability I'm afraid. After 3 years I lose my pinky break 8 times out of then. Thank God for self workers!

  • Amazing! What is the difference between this and the one published in your FISM notes?

  • @HKKLG the differences are big - the mechanics are completely different. That's why the angles are so good!

  • I have a question: Did you sell out to the devil?

  • Wow that looks great!

  • I think my friend has a move inspired by this. Very neat.

  • nice.

  • Very visual, and it looks clean !

Just a little question, your inspiration for this trick was Chris Kenner's Shifty right?

But how did you create the entire effect? Did you find the technique, what were your inspirations?

    Thanks :)

  • @Phaetonmagic Inspirations were really the futagawa method and my own illusion control - but many props to Chris Kenner. He's a real genius and a great guy!

  • nice man nice

  • when did you first come up with this trick? & since when have you been improving this trick?

  • What more can be said about this coming book that hasn't been said already by everyone else. Great routine. I look forward to the release!

  • I am a big fan of elevator effects like these. Very visual, like Chris Mayhew's "Lazy Rise." I am excited for this release Aaron. Thank you for sharing "The Graduate" with us.

  • Really amazing. Makes the old ambitious card routine look kinda lame, huh? (So why do them together?) Thanks, AF for your hard work on this. I'd say it was, though brief, a stand alone. I mean where could you go from this? Put the cards away and get out some coins. Or just close with it.

  • I think I like it ! LOL . looks awesome to me . But just curious if it is angle proof when the card is going upwards .

  • This is incredible! Love the slow and deliberate moves for this effect... Very nice work, Aaron.

  • it reminds me a little bit of shifty by chris kenner.

    Is it angle proof?

  • @JCG92 I believe there are VERY few sleights which are really angle proof. However, this is perhaps the most angle efficient version there is!

  • I think you have answered all the question I have. Maybe one more, is my small hand a big problem for it

  • Wow, Aaron this looks amazing (plus you really show off the pure beauty of Lee's 605s. Mine are starting to get to this point.). This is truly slight of hand card magic at it's most outrageous. A real knock out. I can't wait to get this. Puts uzumaki to it's knees (which is also a beautiful effect don't get me wrong). It's also really nice that it comes in book form. :) -Dakota. •^,_,^•

  • A great effect. I'm glad to see that it is rather "angle efficient", too.

  • hey aaron.. that was an absolutely great effect. i admit i was amazed -.-

  • Hi Aaron! This looks great, and I can't wait to incorporate it into my ACR. Will the book include different ideas for varied routines, or will it focus mainly on the performance in the youtube clip? Thanks for doing this!

  • @Jmid70 Though you'll find many applications of this sleight - it's purpose is this effect. The books spends a great deal of energy helping you apply it's lessons to other sleight of hand, but the purpose of the book is to teach the effect in depth - so you really understand it!

  • Aaron, this looks like something that i would definately do, can't want.

  • Aaron!!!!!! seriously haha. I just got done thinking i knew all the ways for my ambitious card routine and you completely throw a huge mind boggler at me. This trick is amazing. I was impressed on how clean and amazing it looked. I had to show my wife. of course she didn't get it at first but thats the point. Man i can't wait to get it once it's done. Great job like always.

  • Hey Aaron Fisher, I keep watching it and I seriously REALLY love it. I have been doing magic for several years, and I always have an eager to learn the visual rising effect like THAT (e.g. shifty, elevator, raise rise, cheng's riser etc etc etc). This is going to be MY FAVOURITE because I like the way that you dont need to shake and the case RISES. I still cannot believe what I've just said!!

Here I have a question for the move:

How many applications are they in total?

  • @kingarthurlove It's really a move built FOR this routine. I'm pretty uninterested in a raft of applications...unless they really add primary value. And that' a more rare thing than many of us like to believe!

  • Hi Aaron,

That's neat and yet a very visual trick you had came up with. It had always been my dream to be able to do such ambitious card routines which is to make a card visually rise up the deck. I had even sought after tricks such as "Uzumaki by Dan and Dave". To me, this is a must as well. Just a question, does this effect require any sort of gimmick like "Riot by Dan Hauss" or just pure sleight of hand?

    Thanks!

    Benjamin

  • @thedudeofmagic Just playing cards my friend!

  • two and a half years til its legal now...

  • Comment removed

  • Sweet, I am sold. So it comes in both a book and a EBook with video tutorial built in. Will there be a package deal for those of us who want to buy both?

  • @unkletdog yep!

  • Hahaha "Its not over yet!" great trick the second time it moved up I like openly said WHHHHAAATT?!? to my room lol

  • hey aaron id love to win the dvd im just curious as this looks just like an effect from big blind media and alex ward elegy shift...

  • @billyboy679 Hi - that shift was actually in my 2003 notes called Ambitious Graduate - this handling is fundamentally different and superior.

Not sure when Big Blind started selling it, but after he became aware of the situation, Owen volunteered to remove the trick from the site.

  • When will this be available?

  • @stealthybkk within about two weeks!

  • That was an awsome ACR

  • Ive been playing with this plot for a while and so far this is one of the nicest Ive seen

  • I need to to rebuy the paper engine! Note...never ever let anybody borrow your magic books!

  • Very cool effect!

  • wow thats freaking awesome.. a izod shirt really? so 80's :)

  • do you really have a izod shirt?

  • This looks like it fits your style perfectly wich is a really good thing

  • I don't know what to add. It looks like most has been said already. I can't read 7 pages of comments right now. I can't wait to see it done live. Then I will know how effective it will be for my performance situations.

  • Very cool!

  • nice! When will this be available?:)

  • One of the best I've seen!

    Awesome work, Aaron!

    -Herman

  • I like it

  • Aaron,

This is great ! With the holidays around the corner this would make a great gift from you to me. Thanks.

  • my eyes feel weird. This effects is an eye candy! hehe.

  • Slow, visual, impossible magic! Lovin' it!

got a question: Why did you name it The Graduate?

    Thank you

    nighthawk304

  • looks great

  • Why do this trick over Uzumaki? Isn't Uzumaki more visual, as they can actually see the card creeping through the deck slowly, whereas, with a shake, they can never really see the card actually moving, but just the card eventually gets to point B.

  • @Biologyproject11 My friend - this is a matter for your own taste. For me, this has a more pleasing effect. But that's just one man's opinion!

  • @Biologyproject11 Uzumaki dont even look like a trick.

  • oh no, it look so good. Is it a hardcore move like wt kenner does?

    my hand is small enough.

  • @AsherWong I think it's easier to make look great than Chris's, but again, that's just one man's opinion. I'm sure Chris would have an easier time with his version!

  • That is awesome

  • Very nice! Can't wait to get my hands on this, whether through winning or buying. :)

  • Another gem, Aaron. I could see this in my own ACR. How long would you say you've been working with this effect?

  • @UbiquitousSolo Since about 2000

  • @aaronbfisher Cool. I respect that you wait to release your material. What's the price point going to be on this one? I'm looking forward to it, love the cleanliness.

  • Is this a gimmicked or an impromptu routine?

  • @superpenguinman17 regular cards baby!

  • Wow. This is a nice effect. Like the ambitous card on a slow elevator to awesome. Nice deck of cards too!

  • I saw this trick life in Dominican Republic and I want the secret!!!

  • Very cool ... I like the touch at the end of it being the top card. I don't remember that finesse. Nice.

  • wow.that's what an ambitious card should be. Slow but very visual.:D

  • I aaron! the sleight of hands is very good!!

    almost unnoticed!

about the angles, I don´t think they will be a problem.

    Just need to practice

    (clube ilusionistas guimaraes - Portugal)

  • I will lay odds you got that deck via Lee Asher. I never could do a good ambitious card routine, the triple and double lifts involved were too much for me.

  • This is crazy! This is like the ambitious card on steroids!!

  • Awesome! I really like it. Two questions:

    1. How difficult are the sleights?

    2. Is this meant to stand on its own, or to be one part of an ambitious card routine?

  • @toolnard13 I think you have to at least establish the effect before you begin - so that makes it part of an ambitious card routine for most!

  • @toolnard13 This is not a basic routine - but it's the kind of routine that really will make you better than you were before. In fact, It's written to do just that.

  • Looks alot like Chris Kenner's Shifty, just more elegant. Good work sir!

  • Ambitious Card... UPLIFTED.

    A sweet, engaging routine.

  • Aaron i think this is look like shifty by chris men but yeah nice one any way can you tell me if i am right or wrong

  • this looks really good is there a gimmick envolved? and how do i win a free one?

  • this looks great :)

  • I cannot stop watching this. It's so cool!

  • Very nice! However, it seems very similar to Chris Kenner's "Shifty"

Did you draw any inspiration from that?

  • I See a great move! =*)

  • Awesome looking. Looks real.

  • You would use Lee's Forniers for this wouldn't you?

    :P

I remember you mentioning this trick at camp, hope it does well, can't wait for next year!

    Mike

  • Gonna be amazing!

  • Very interesting. I like the slow motion aspect. Looks like it will be good.

  • Do you go over (in depth) the necessary sleight(s)? I have a hard time with a the *** cover **** and the classic one as well.

Thanks for your great subtleties on the bluff ****. It's a great utility move to use in one of my routines.

  • Looks fabulous Aaron! Why "The Graduate" as a title?

  • This is really nicely structured. Most of your stuff is, though! The ending is gold.

  • Aaron, looks great, just like all the magic that you do!

  • YAY! I've been working on more or less the same idea lately. Day before I saw this I had actually been experimenting with spreading the cards before the "move". While squaring I would secure the grip and do the move, and delay the reveal. I was also caught up in developing subtleties. Seeing this is inspiring, and I hope to get many answers and new ideas around this concept.

Since you have been doing it for so long I guess I will.

  • This looks great. I would love to learn this trick. You really have some great magic!

  • What can you say. I think your one of the best card men out there right now. Also love the way you teach. When I want to learn card magic, your the MAN!!!!

  • Awesome, Aaron! Love it!

  • Looks great! Quick question, how do you feel this is better than CHris Kenner's handling? Is this better on angles, more justified, etc?

  • Looks amazing Aaron. No movement what so ever!

    Tom

  • This has got to be awesome. Anything by Aaron is.

  • Hey Aaron,

This trick looks fantastic, it looks like a fantastic addition to any ambitious card routine!!!

    -MagicMitch

  • Great twist on the Ambitious Card! I look forward to this coming out.

    Paul

  • may i ask what deck ur using?

    Wes

  • that is a beautiful trick. slow and effective.

  • Very smooth, but can the handling have the card sticking out the top of the deck?

  • Looks Great!!

  • Locks great!

  • I'll save my comments for a different forum.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm mystified! :)

  • This is interesting. As part of the ACR it would work nicely. Too bad you couldn't show the ace being placed in the deck and moving up. Having the ace facing up would be really cool. Of course it couldn't get to the top of the deck....unless there was a pass...yes? Hmmmmm be back now I have to work on this.

    Thanks

    Steph Beach

  • @xanadu1215

You know, I think seeing the selected card move up has more impact. The more I think of it, the more I like the selected card facing up and doing a pass to 'skip' it over the top card.

  • @xanadu1215

Yup tried it with the card face up and it's pretty nice.

Then to finished worked it with a simple color change.

A very nice effect and got a good impact as they see their own card rising.

  • This looks brilliant, Aaron! Smooth handling and I love the fact that it slows the ACR down, giving room for spectators to react after each step.

  • @aaronfishermagic, ah, I see. You going to be down in the san jose/bay area any time soon? any chance you're going to attend magic-con next year?

  • @rah00ligan not sure!

  • I like it! High
