  • As a longtime Weller fan I must say I'm very disappointed in this latest attempt at whatever??? Weller himself once said that he couldn't write when he's happy.... He must be the happiest he's ever been cause this is just crap!!!!!!

  • this is really dull

  • This man just vomits lyrics, he's a genius.

  • puajjjj

  • What where forgetting here is you old jam droogies is that a new audience will hear this like and enjoy then find the jam and the council etc............;

  • reminds me of the BELOVED...never thought id say that...bit like saying a jam track reminds me of ....whatever lol

  • weller has earned the privalage of being a bit self indulgent after so many decades of success...he could easily keep knocking out albums like stanley road and cash in but hes still prepared to to take risks...and look at the people who want to get hold of his tracks and do remixes...THE NEXT GENERATION!!!

  • nice sound this. yeh true hes moved on from bricks and mortar but so have i. paul weller delivers always been a fan but listen and make a decision irrespective of past stuff. cant stand still although he doesnt have to worry with his class catalogue. just my opinion

  • Get in mr Weller sir!!!!! love it STARLIIIIITTTTTEEEEEEEEEEEE A PLACE TOOOOOO BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • an old style council track goin spare?

  • when did mccartney last make a record..........i cant remember.

    weller still going strong.

  • @vespavbb150 I can't reply to your answer if you don't click the little reply button next to my username, hence the reason for this delay of my reply.

Anyway, Paul McCartney released Electric Arguments under the name of the Fireman. Some of the songs are pretty different. Not the stuff you'd expect from McCartney. And it was released in 2008.

  • Weller's range is astonishing, and he keeps coming up with wonderful tunes regardless of the style of song. Don't know how he remains so inspired when the rest just end up repeating themselves. Mad praise to the Modfather!!!

  • WELLER IS ONLY ONE MAN WHO CAN TAKE HIS MUSIC DOWN DIFFERENT AVENUES.HES THE ONLY ONE WITH THE TALENT TO DO IT.

ALL THE REST ARE STUCK PLAYING THE SAME OLD THING.

THIS SONG IS LIGHT AND REFRESHING,BETTER THAN THE INDIE CRAP EVERYONES GOT THERE HEAD STUCK IN.

PAUL WELLER IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT CLASS.

  • @vespavbb150 What about Paul McCartney? He's done different styles, too.

  • Good to see Paul still producing the tuneage.

  • And what is wrong with a bit of escapism once in a while? Bring on the weekend, bring on Ibiza and bring on Starlite...Reality is hard enough as it is.

  • I hope they will release this here in the US. It's a travesty of musical justice to restrict only to the UK.

  • I have been loyal Weller fan since 1980. But this Starlite-crap comes close to the worst Style Council aberrations (remember "confessions of a pop group"?).

Well, he has been off-track a couple of times (who hasn't?) so I hope he'll come to his senses soon and be back with a decent song idea.

  • hes finally trying a bit of style council type of stuff again! lush!

  • tune legend

  • Buenisima XD. Ahora mismo me la compro en Itunes, espero que la incluya en su proximo disco ;)

  • anyone know what kind of fleece jacket weller wears on the brand new start video??

    its bugging me!

  • This Is Ace

  • I love the new Weller stuff.

The last album was so refreshingly awesome.

    Cant wait for next one.

  • Starlite=Ibiza Rocks=Packed Dance Floors=Paul's first NO1 since Beat Surrender all the way back in 1982.

  • 13 deaf people were here

  • 13 poor people

  • Loved `In The City `in 1977 and love this today.

  • Good song. Again the modfather shows his range and innovation. Not

copying trends but he is his own man.

  • I didn't expect it actually to be that GOOD after first listen. And I still don't get it - how come that I dig every "change" of Weller? That is just unbeliavable! Can't wait to hear the whole album.

  • Tsc ftw but as we all know Jam, TSC, SOLO, not all can agree lets just say forever changing if still the same as 77 people would hate so all agree to disagree

  • Great

  • 13 people are deaf!!!!

  • very good, and hi to dad kez and mum :)

  • This reminds me of when Alex Chilton tried to be Chet Baker.

  • One of 2011 best songs so far, not sure anything will get close to this...

  • sounds like the style council done right- his voice sounds great- light melodic something thats been missing though i could do without some of the electronic percussion- overall a very young sounding song for an old modfather

  • Definitely grows on you after a few listens.

  • Disappointingly mediocre. His fire has gone out again. That last album was almost as bad as 'Heliocentric'. I miss the man who used to set the house ablaze with 'Shadow of the Sun', 'Foot of the Mountain', '5th Season', etc. Take a few years out again, Paul. This is simply dull.

  • what i object to is peolpe who claim to be longtime weller fans calling peolpe 'bell ends' because they don't like this. 1. It's just a song. 2. We live in a place where freedom of expression is stil just about ok, Prettygreen 1970, turn on set the house ablaze. 3. I'm a long time fan so i know what is possible. 4. anybody can do this stuff to the same and better standard, not many can write Trees. End of. Except Peace.

  • I agree,

Very few can write such a song as trees which not only is a great tune but also a good story! All being Weller fans trees is just one song of an exceptional standard that we all without doubt agree upon! There is a forest stemming back from the jam years if you look and listen hard enough

I am a massive Weller fan and have only listened to this tune a couple of times but i can say with honesty that it aint my cup of tea!

Anyone can bang up a tune like this! Paul Weller can do better

  • Weller should have packed up after Heavy Soul and his golden period of Wildwood/ Stanley Road. Most artists only have one period of creativity and Weller has been blessed with three. This, however, follows a very poor album (wake up the nation - Andromeda excepted) and a run of awful stuff. Frankly, he's a lucky man. Who listens to Van Morrisons new stuff? Or Dylan? Or McCartney?

    Time's up Paul!

  • Idiot!

Anyone who knows a thing or 2 about music would know that his last two albums were on par or better than heavy soul. certainly more deeper anyway

  • If you like this song check out Davey Roberts Sitting Pretty /watch?v=sz4vxg-6joU

  • quality

  • I'm a huge Weller fan apart from the late TSC stuff. This is exactly what it is. It was bloody awful then, and it is now. THIS IS JUST DROSS.........

  • great tune,roll on IBIZA

  • Love it! It's funky and soulful. Takes me back to TSC days.

  • Sounds a bit "New Order."

  • Gorgeous! Wish he had extended the piano touches a few more bars (1:00), as they are superb.

  • no disrespect, i'm just a bit glad this doesn't feature weller's latest drummer, he had neither the experience nor the sensitivity to play weller's godly tunes such as this

  • BLINDING !!!

  • Love this...Weller is magic....GREAT TUNE!!!

  • Top, top tune.

  • definitety different to the sound of last few albums less intense more relaxed more like throwaway single nice and pleasant nothing more

  • This is more like it Mr Weller!!

  • Just what you need to play in the sunshine, played this over and over again. Nice one Mr Weller, love the way it ends with the lyrics HAPPY AGAIN.

    (POETIC.)

  • LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now this is what I love Weller doing... You can take all that Fast car slow Traffic and dump it somewhere at sea. THIS on the other hand...

  • I had my doubts about a few tracks on the last album but I've always loved Weller for his tendency to keep changing and not to rest on his laurels. He's like a musical shark, he must keep moving forwards in order to live!

Couldn't agree more about the Jam fans stuck in the past. I have friends of my own who fall into that category and it always makes me wonder whether they ever really 'got' The Jam.

Just had my 1st listen to this new track and now I'm clicking replay.

  • IMO, it doesn't sound like house music. It's more like Above The Clouds Part 2 or something. Can't quite put my finger on it but it sounds fresh & it seems to sound better if you give it a few listens.

  • Fantastic. Nice to hear him (once again) ditch the loud guitars and shift to a more soulful groove.

  • @SoulstylistJukebox ABSOLUTELY!!!!

  • I dont get how you cant like this ??!?! Weller described it perfectly - beautiful tune - I love the fact its different - those bell ends who go to the gigs sitting there moping with their arms crossed cos he aint playing Jam songs - do me a favour and open your ears, you are missing out. No one will forget the legacy of The Jam, they are my band too but this is what Weller is all about - changing man in every respect - Play this loud - my copy is pre ordered - Cant wait for more !!!

  • @PrettyGreen1970 Totally agree mate... I remember and much prefer the early Weller gigs, everyone up for it, but it's gradually gotten worse over time as he's started slipping the old tunes into his set, and by doing so, he's coaxed some of his old Jam fans back to the gigs, and they don't know fook all about his new music... I'd prefer it if they wouldn't fookin' bother at all and leave the rest of us who love all Weller's work, regardless of it's influence, to get on with it...

  • @greg16266 i don't think its just Jam fans stood arms folded at weller gigs anymore, its mostly everyone. untill their weller period is played. this is not a dig. it just shows how long weller has been around. the jams fans, council and solo fans are 3 different people. personally i think he was best in the 90's and 22 dreams was just dreadful. but even weller says he can't stand playing some of his old songs as it just aint him anymore, same goes for the fans?

  • @PrettyGreen1970 Well said sir! I went to the Albert Hall last year and had to listen to some old dudes bemoaning the fact that he wasn't playing much from the 90T's. Where have they been the last few years. The man moves on and so should they.

  • @PrettyGreen1970 Well said fella. I have been a fan since The Jam came on the scene in the 70's and grew up with the sounds of that time. PW has moved on and I cannot believe "fans" haven't. Even after all these years!!! The Jam were and still are my all time favourite band, but the music PW has made since then has been superb and as said below, Changing. More of the same Mr Weller please. Still keeping the faith...

  • @PrettyGreen1970 I take it you were or are a massive Culture Club and Boy George fan. Very similar in my opinion.

  • GREAT PAUL ! SURPRISE ME AGAIN

  • Absolutely loving this song. Can picture walking along a sun soaked balearic beach with this in my ears.

  • it just gets better n better

  • Perfection.

  • Yeah it's cool .. keep changing man!

  • Well i'm hard core weller took a few listens but this great and different.

  • beautiful, as usual!

  • you all miss the point of this track! its a 1 off!! just as 7&3 was !! its relevant n different as wellers always been !!!

  • @MrJerseymod I actually really hope this isnt a one off... It's amazing. I'd love for him to go back to funk. As much as I like alot of his new stuff some of it is very samey.

  • the dogs nuff z

  • Got Radio 2 written all over it has it not?

  • if you are going to be a weller fan - and i'm class of 79, you really need to get used to being somewhere between rembrandt and rolf harris - cause both are on offer with the former vastly outweighing the latter - for me he could have had a shit quicker than doing this, but he loves nothing better than confounding expectations and going somewhere different ,it's all part of the journey - wake up the nation.

  • The bass line is great! First listen, I wasn't too keen but having listened to it a lot more, its a great, great tune!

  • ibiza disco copy, one word crap.get back to the soul, bluesy sound

  • @pooliepete Harking back to his Style Council days: Out of your league.

  • Logfires, stars, take my hand, "I'm happy again". The great man is obviously in love.

  • tune

  • Great!

Definitely feeling a harking back to the council days :)

  • 3 dislikes! are their ears painted on? this is class.

  • Love it

  • Absolutely outstanding! The Modfather keeps it real; real relevant!

  • Modernism : A New Decade Part 2 ?

  • i like wellers voice on this silky or what

  • superb!

get the bass guitar out again paul!

little nod back to TSC sure is sure and a decade of modism.

    weller's vocal shines again.................

Galvers a fan since age 10

  • The soundtrack of this summer...

  • Yeh its good I can dig it

  • Style-council tastic. MORE PLEASE

  • Very nice nice summer track. Has a bit of a Style Council vibe. Love it!

  • Like it. What a nice sound after the mediocre WUTN, this will get a lot of radio play. Late TSC defo, all thats missing is D.C. How many lives has this geezer got ?

  • Love it........Well cool.

  • top track ! needed this change of direction n pace !!

  • this sound is good for a long hot summer just passing by.

  • Brilliant,so Style Council...

  • I remember all the shit he got when he did this kind of stuff at the end of TSC, but I've had a few listens of this now and this is bang on.............

  • brilliant...incredibly fresh...has weller discovered E or something....you could imagine...just towards then of a wonderful high sunset coming up...& bang this being echoed full blast...& it aint even off his next album,,,,bring it on!

  • I can't get my head round this one!! Sounds like a very late style council tune. I'm glad it's not gonna be on the album.......if it was, I wouldn't be buying it. I don't get it. And the man is my musical and lyrical hero!!

  • Nice song Paul

  • mega...........................

  • Cool!

  • Sounds like a cross between mid-period Style Council and 80s Pet Shop Boys! Brilliant!

  • love this song, great for the summer, hope there's to come.

  • Yes.

  • I like it but it reminds me of 'Can You Still Love Me?' a hell of a lot.

  • Am loving this, The Modfather does it again.
