@StevenE1972 The magic marker knife training method is pretty old school. Paul Vunak was real big into it, they even make fake training knives that have red water based magic marker ink on the blade for this type of training. I have done this type of training before its crazy how bad you get cut. I agree you need to walk before you run as long as you learn to walk and run properly. A lot of these old school knife defense moves we see here go right out the window when you train this way.

About 20 years ago, I took a few classes in Fillipino Arnis (also called "kali") and we went over some of the stuff he mentions in there. Makes me want to really take it up again (much more seriously). I think that as far as knife (and even sword as well as stick) defenses are concerned, Fillipino Arnis/Kali is the best. Is Vunak still around?

I trained a bit of of this system here in Aurora under a guy named Brian Copeland. Brian Copland is huge on functional strength and conditioning.

I like the beggining of the video. "Anything you want man, just take it easy." and gives the money away. That shows, you should always try to avoid any fight, no matter the money. It's always a risk and the stakes are too high (your life).
The weakness to this knife situation is the strength issue. If you grappled some one slashing at you like that, it'll most likely end up as a strength test and grappling on the ground. And doing that with a knife IS NOT fun. The take down is good, but a disabling strike, a disarm, then a take down is better... which is more of a kali method. EIther way, more disabling a removal of the weapon needs to be involved.
You are in correct about Moni no longer teaching government agencies, as I am a government employee and continue to train under Moni Aizik. The technique is sound.
This in not Krav maga - its moni aizik - a well known fraud. He was never in the special forces - never a commando and never a Krav Maga Instructor or trained by Imi. Google fake Israeli Instructors ort commando krav maga sucks.
One more thing guys - get real - its a 3 or 4 day course.

@rgj1001 Hi. A lot of systems (Krav included) have techniques that MAY work. Over time they often become cinfused with one that WILL work. When you train isolate a technique/or situation and try it full speed with a non compliant partner. Anything works at slow speed, most things work at half speed, but few things work at full speed. Add non compliance to the mix and less works.
This is good technique as it appears in just about every Japanese art, and also appears in the Canadian Armed Forces Cirriculum. I don't know if this is pure Krav Maga or not, but this is an oldy and a goody. Isn't Krav Maga a mixture of different arts? This is good as it has stood the test of time, and is currently in use today.
@fairtradeandy I used to study Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu, and I haven't ever seen it. The thing is with TMA is that they were for that time and place...things have moved on. Krav isn't a mixture of martial arts...it's an original system. It's no more a mixture than Karate is (because it evolved from Chinese systems crossed with Okinawan systems).

@FusBoxe Russian Special Forces Units are (I would hope) better trained than the standard Israeli infantry unit. I am not saying that I am pro Israeli if thats what you are implying. Free Palestine.

I like the beggining of the video. "Anything you want man, just take it easy." and gives the money away. That shows, you should always try to avoid any fight, no matter the money. It's always a risk and the stakes are too high (your life).

The weakness to this knife situation is the strength issue. If you grappled some one slashing at you like that, it'll most likely end up as a strength test and grappling on the ground. And doing that with a knife IS NOT fun. The take down is good, but a disabling strike, a disarm, then a take down is better... which is more of a kali method. EIther way, more disabling a removal of the weapon needs to be involved.

You are in correct about Moni no longer teaching government agencies, as I am a government employee and continue to train under Moni Aizik. The technique is sound.

This in not Krav maga - its moni aizik - a well known fraud. He was never in the special forces - never a commando and never a Krav Maga Instructor or trained by Imi. Google fake Israeli Instructors ort commando krav maga sucks.
One more thing guys - get real - its a 3 or 4 day course.

@somersetkravmaga Moni Aizik's claims have been verified by Black Belt magazine, History, Discovery, and Military Channel. Black Belt is the most trusted, and objective source for Martial Artists. Moni's claims are true, as other Krav Maga organizations are on a smear campaign because Commando Krav Maga is dominating the reality based Martial Art scene, and is expanding. Not only is it expanding, more government agencies like Customs, Boarder and Military are going with this system.

@fairtradeandy No disrespect but the court cases in Florida, the banning on him marketing himself as an anti terror expert or Israeli Commando by the advertising standards authority in the UK. The fact that Moni's own Instructors leave and and tell tales about lies and conflicting stories. I
There is no smear campaign. Re Government Agencies using it - thats not true - Moni got 1 job and they wont have him back because of the mans reputation. Sadly Moni makes money off needy people.

Respond to this video... PS - This technique wont work - dont believe me - get a NON COMPLIANT partner to slash you FAST with a training knife and try keeping it. That is why Krav Maga does not use thechniques like this.

@somersetkravmaga I usually dont comment on videos as it doesnt mean anything on a computer. I am a CKM instructor but have studied every martial art out there as well as many other forms of Krav Maga, IKMA, IKMF, Kapap and Lotar as well as the F.I.G.H.T hagannah system. I am not defending the actions or lies etc that Moni has put out there so please do not think that I am. If anything I take your stand on the matter. However I must disagree with your comment that this technique doesnt work.

I only train realisticly as this is the whole reason of self defence we can both argee on that. I have trained under a full contact setting with knives. Trust me when i say that this technique does work. Maybe not every time, the same as with all systems, but as well as it can when fighting empty handed against someone with a weapon. I can carry on writing that it does work but i feel u would rather see something to prove it. Rather than the videos on here as even i feel they dont look effective

@rgj1001 Hi. A lot of systems (Krav included) have techniques that MAY work. Over time they often become cinfused with one that WILL work. When you train isolate a technique/or situation and try it full speed with a non compliant partner. Anything works at slow speed, most things work at half speed, but few things work at full speed. Add non compliance to the mix and less works.

This is good technique as it appears in just about every Japanese art, and also appears in the Canadian Armed Forces Cirriculum. I don't know if this is pure Krav Maga or not, but this is an oldy and a goody. Isn't Krav Maga a mixture of different arts? This is good as it has stood the test of time, and is currently in use today.

@fairtradeandy I used to study Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu, and I haven't ever seen it. The thing is with TMA is that they were for that time and place...things have moved on. Krav isn't a mixture of martial arts...it's an original system. It's no more a mixture than Karate is (because it evolved from Chinese systems crossed with Okinawan systems).
