  • i love the song thanks for posting this video

  • why would you put such an annoying song in the background. none of you seem like 40 year old women in the video, what the fuck?

  • wow. Pretty hard to remain zen as he did. That's insane to run something like that in a play boat.

  • lot to be said for bigger volume boats in big water, that was insane. best described as an survival run.

  • "We're gonna need a bigger boat!"

That run took a massive pair. I'm glad it went well.

  • Never seen so much hate from paddlers.

I'm so stoked to see someone go through that, and take a beating, and stay in their boat. Call it stupid or crazy, but Paul knows how it feels to get out of your boat after that, and I don't imagine a much better feeling.

It's a great feeling to be out with a buddy and see them roll up no matter how or why they went over. Seeing Paul roll up all those times gives me the warm fuzzies.

Hard to feel more alive than when you're just trying to survive.

  • hardcore ......you know the score

  • get a longer boat

  • @stevemehne get bigger balls!

  • thats fuckin nuts id of drown already i havnt mastered my roll over yet lol

  • at 1.20 is that a tree passing him by?

  • Paul I got a question - were there any points during that run that you thought 'was this a good idea' or like did anything scare you at all?

  • @paulgamache - This is one of my favourite vids on youtube Paul. Don't let any douche on here try telling you that what you did was 'stupid'. It was freakin awesome! I think the fact that you didn't opt' for a creek boat made it more extreme.

  • The boat of choice is fine roll practice is good for you.Now if at all poss it looks like you should move the seat forward and trim that boat out a bid if you can not you should check out project 62.I work as a video kayak on the New and Gauley river and have had to deal with looking at the sky for years sometimes not where i wanted it kind of sucks. Not being a know it all just sharing what i have learned

  • I think if you wanna be a critic powskier, you need to get you a camera. Back up your statements! Can you not find one person with a camera in all of Idaho? Have you seen any of his other videos? He's pretty damn good and we haven't seen shit from you. Hell, I'll send you a camera and you can send it back when your done!

  • @powskier This isn't a conversation its just me letting you know you are a piece of crap you should go wax your cross country skis and go take a stroll to your happy place or did your wife take that away from you too. Go get your balls out of your old ladies purse and show us whatcha got other than maybe arthritis and a bad case of hemroids. Get some footage up so I can talk trash on your stuff. enjoy your day ski bunny

  • I don't have a camera. But the Milner mile section on the Snake river blows that shit away. Also, you weren't playing . The river was playing you.

  • @powskier milner mile runs at 10k-12k this run on the smith was at like 80k if you run milner mile at 50k I will give you full props but not likely to happen so you suck donkey balls old sweaty ones.

  • Milner is over a 100'/mile. the smith doesn't compare. The Mississipi runs over 500,000. What does does that mean? The main Slamon at 80,000cfs is bigger than this. You were flailing because you aren't good enough to paddle a playboat in water like that. None of your insults even apply to me. You are just a pathetic loser who can't admit they are wrong. Shut the fuck up!

  • @powskier just because you talk to your wife that way doesn't mean you should talk to everyone else like that. Is it walt or jim either way your mom was the hardest ride I have ever had this season I was rolling all night with her on top of me. She also told me you need to stop touching little suzy down there or she is going to call the cops. I bet you get your ass kicked a lot for all the shit you talk. I will be at the boise river fest this year if you wanna talk shit to my face dicky

  • @powskier So you run bigger stuff just because you live in Idaho??? But now that i realize you live in Idaho I see your problem. You didn't even get the boat right dummy. So go and troll somewhere else and when I come out there this summer to run the NF payette I will make sure I fish you out of the water when you are screaming for help. Now go along and play with your skies and drink your latte buddy

  • Looks like a dagger G-force... way too short and SLOW of a boat for running big water if you ask me. You need to learn to brace. Relying just on your roll is no way to run a drop. You're going to get your head taken off someday. You should be able to be where ever you want to in that river instead of letting the river control you. Rolling should only be a last resort and rare. Get a longer, faster boat and think old school (aka- slalom racing) and drop the playboat mentality.

  • powskier do you even know what you are talking about you are a skier. Its flood stage kayaking flows were 40k+ more than what the run suggests did you see those logs going downstream? I wanna see you give this a whirl in your boat of choice I think you would piss your pants

  • the boat doesn't have enough volume for his weight.

  • you one bad ass kayaker... hooooaaah!!!

  • that is why play boats suck on big water...no volume

  • sure...thats why people choose to paddle playboats all over the zambezi, nile and otowa....creekers are a pain on bigwater like that. very hard compared with playboats to get out of bigwater holes...makes beatings 10 times worse.

thats what i was told when i felt the same way as you.

  • fair call. its the volume that sticks in holes versus the flushability debate.

  • fair enough. i would assume that your going to get a beating when a river like that is in spate. just my opinion

  • your are probably on the money. ...nice to hear the term "spate".......that is cool

    old school still rocks!!!

  • yeh old school does. and i like the term "spate" too

  • full on sick!

  • paul is nuts. thats wild

  • At least he's got a good roll!

  • he got wrecked by the zone of funny water

  • Looks like he needs a lesson in dealing with eddies :)

  • so go paddle O H Gorge next time it's 80 grand and teach him one. I've been there at 6000 and i got worked in that same spot. I'd say he was paddling pretty fucking well considering.

  • With pleasure...

  • What song is this?

  • he basically got worked most of the time

  • Perhaps I misspoke below of this not being a technical rapid. While it looks like it could go smooth and easy the river left side run that Paul gets thrown over into is scary. Those seems would present a serious challenge to any kayak.

From the audio I get the impression that at least one of your friends expected you would likely die in there. Being in it you knew it to be do or die though and you did.

  • Look how fast the log flys by him at 1:20 Imagine the force of impact if the log had been further left and plowed into him end first.

This may be a relatively easy non technical rapid but Id think youd be much safer in a yak with considerably more volume. The water is no doubt big and powerful. Which rapid on which river and what cfs flow? I must paddle if ever I am near.

  • the volume doesnt matter

he could paddle a big ass creek boat, and take a beatdown because he cant control it, its about what boat you use, and how well you know the boat

  • This paddler Paul obviously has a high degree of skill in boat handling and perseverance in survival = staying in the kayak in this case.

Water volume is a key factor in feasibility of descending steep technical rapids. Sane paddlers factor cfs volume into process of determining which kayak to paddle a given section of river in. Id guess that Paul might have made this look easy in a large volume steep river kayak.

  • While a low volume play boat offers an advantage of higher probability of submarineing under and through large hydraulics this video footage is a great example of how one can get endered upside down, caught on seems and flipped upside down and just generally pushed around in the boiling eddy soup in a tiny boat.

  • Being a kayakaker myself, i have one hell of a lot of resepct for this guy, still think he's crazy, but it takes some guts to paddle a river like that.

  • Long Live PG! Fuckin Legend!

  • amazing, that is a brave man!! well done

  • I believe I saw a similar video to this a while back, but it wasn't as crazy. Same kayaker, same song, same river. Just not so many overwhelming swells. It's a fake.

  • 80,000 cfs acc to paul at the "oregon kayaking" website

  • serious fuckin balllllllllllz!!

  • any idea of the CFS?

  • Haha, I knew the soundtrack sounded familiar. I have just recently been listening to a lot of Carla Bruni's songs.

  • holy fuck thats some killer currents there if this guy lived i would be supprised he is constantly being sucked under water level by the awsome currents it would be fun if there was no risk

  • no you've got that totally backwards if there were no risk there would be NO fun. the thrill of fighting forces far beyond yr. control is at the heart of big water/floodstage kayaking.

  • i know what u mean i kayak myself and also take afew risks i just mean without training you would be totaly fucked on this river :)

  • Unbefucknlievable. I'd eat the corn out of the shit you probably let loose in the water near that giant gravity sucking abyss thing at the end.

  • R E S P E C T

    Did this guy die? lol

  • No but he broke the record for highest waterfall decent. GO PAUL!

  • luv it !
