I'm not a big music nerd or anything, but when I heard this song for the first time all I could say was: these guys were way ahead of their time. We are but FOOLS in the Court of the Crimson King!
@HeddyValle Be open to other genres of music. Don't judge music you don't understand. His music doesn't suck
It's two different genres of music...unless your one of those people that stick to one genre only and just hate music that is "different" than your one genre..
@gman4eva9 His music does suck and I love several diverse genres. He is a talentless hack who resorts to just using other peoples music. Just because someone does not like him does not mean they don't understand him, nor does it mean that they only like one genre
@ProcolHarum1967 Its not even about that... u CAN not lik kanye and his music, thats fine with me u have th right 2, but at the end of th day certain ppl, lik me, wood never know about king crimson if kanye hadnt sampled it. i i think dat goes 4 a lot of ppl. trust me theres a good amount of ppl who wouldn think twice 2 click on this if kanye hadnt introduced it to some of us... and its definately not a last "resort". how many views does this have an how many views does kanye have on ONE song:)
@cp3onmtv963 I get your point that more people have discovered this song but my point is that he does not have the talent to actually write his own music and always resorts to sampling. Sampling is fine on occasion but not if you do it all the time especially if; like Kanye, you think of yourself as the greatest "artist" of all time. I have no real problem with sampling I was just giving my opinion to someone else who seemed to think that if you don't like him, you just don't understand him.
@ProcolHarum1967 ah ok i get your point. lik i said u have some really valid points we just differ an thats ok... thanks for not being rude and takin my comment th wrong way:)
Go suck the talentless prick off then. While you are at it you may want to learn to get your point across in the language otherwise known as English. What the hell does DAT mean? Are you a ghetto dweller or just some wannabe wigger from the burbs? Go fuck yourself you dried up turd.
@n00b4o The only way Rush and KC are like each other is that they are both talented progressive rock bands. Otherwise, you're both wrong. The sounds aren't even remotely similar.
Soundwise they may not be that similar, I agree. However, the guitar/drums/bass runs near the end of the 4th minute are similar to both La Villa Strangiato and By-Tor and the Snow Dog. Rush was obviously paying homage to KC. No one really sounds like KC and no one sounds like Rush either. To try and do so would amount to an extreme failure.
I will assume the part La Villa Strangiato you're referring to is part V starting around 5:49
I see similarity, but the two of clearly very different in arrangement, but they both sound very big band inspired.
And considering this album came out in England about the same time Rush originally formed in Canada, I'd find it very very hard to believe Rush was paying homage to a band they probably had no opportunity to take inspiration from. Sorry. It just doesn't compute to me.

Thankyou with the deepest sincerity,
not only for creating one of the greatest albums of all time,
but for kick-starting the golden era of music:

so Kanye had almost 7 minutes to sample, and he only used a drum fill and a couple of lines? Power could've been so much better

Except for the fact that they have admitted to have been influenced by KC. Hard to argue with that when it comes from the horse's mouth.
