  • Wonderful! I remember Val Doonican's shows on TV in the 70s and I wish there was as much talented entertainment as him on the telly nowadays - sadly there isn't. Great to hear him on you tube though, so I've saved it to my favourites!

  • Im a midget and i find this song offensive!

  • @Buddha7771 i'm a giant and i find you squashable!

  • Good to hear this after so long. Takes me back to when I was in school, we had a techy teacher with a violent disposition that hid a heart of gold. I was going off the rails a bit at the time and one day he told me to stay behind. He gave me a lecture on respect and responsibility then beat me senseless with a blackboard ruler. Sounds harsh but I learned a valuable lesson. When I regained the power in my legs I joined the Salvation Army and took to reading psalms. Thanks for the memory.

  • @herringfly i enjoyed this reminiscence, thanks! Particularly "the violent disposition that hid a heart of gold". It made me wonder about whether my old headmaster engaged in beating us with gym shoes to conceal a similarly soft centre

  • @firestartertwistedfi

    Complex creatures, teachers of old!

  • @herringfly They'd be jailed nowadays.

  • Do you know, this is the first song I ever remember liking. I was about 4 I think. I remember looking at those funny grooves cut in his guitar and thought to myself ' I bet Val's done that so that he can calculate the area of his strings under his guitar bridge' When I told my mum she said 'Don't be so ridiculous son. I think you're destined to become a dustman!'
