I am a native Chamorro from Guam. One thing that all Pac. islanders have in common is a history & culture of isolation. This has shaped the way of thinking, customs, culture, folklore, etc. of the Pac. islanders. Filipinos dont share that because they were not as extremely isolated as us in Oceania. Ask a Filipino living on a Pacific island. Filipinos living in Guam(USA)identify themselves as Asian, not Pacific Islanders. Only Filipinos in living in the US mainland seem to have this crisis.

That term is exclusive to the people of the S. Pacific :
Melanesian/Micronesian/Polynesian
education is key.
