Sad really, the good guys (the U.S. Army) says no to a weapon, the bad guys (gangsters and robbers) get it and shoot up the country. There is a lesson here somewhere...
@lavajoe889 no, the currency was obviously different. It would be equivalent to 800 dollars today maybe. Gas used to be like 19 cents a gallon, today its 3.00 + , get the deal?
They didnt say anything about John Browning's .50 cal Ma Deuce which i consider one of the most famous and most successful machine gun of the 20th (and 21st) century…
It's still legal to have full autos, you just have to jump through the hoops (registering, $200 tax) It's a royal pain in the ass, especially when it costs over 15,000 for most FA weapons.
F/A is pretty much useless anyway, especially with a .45 which is a hell of a round. Makes the gun inaccurate w/rapid fire.
I still can't figure why did they make the Browning fire from open bolt. It could have been a superb automatic rifle, decades before M1 Garand and the like, instead of just a light machine gun with a ridiculously short ammo supply.
Yeah, funny that. The BAR and the Thompson comes along and anyone can get them, so a lot of criminals use them.
These days it´s realy hard to get anything like that for a normal person, but the criminals still get their hands on automatic weapons even though it is illegal, go figure.
@CrystalHunter1989 Count on it, pal. Like a lot of old farts, I thought the best days were behind us. But I was wrong, and I'm glad I lived long enough to see us go from the best days down to the worst and then finally start turning things around. They called us the greatest generation. Well, we did all right, I guess, but you guys were the ones who stepped up to the plate and kicked the fuckers out, in November. Thank you. I was pretty scared for a while, Now, I'm not.
the tommy was not the first subgun it was a italian one. well anyway i have been in the internet lately and alot of peaple are saying the tompson was the best SMG of WW2. well wrong i know many peaple who used the (usa, british, israily soldiers) who siad they hated the thing. they gun out of ammo in less than 5 sec in battle. and they only have about 6 mags a day. some would rather pick up a germans rifle
Exactly, I hoped you would say that. Though there are many reasons why I think the PPsh-41 is the best SMG of the war. It was reliable, cheap, had a high magazine capacity, could take abuse, and was basically "soldier proof" where you could do little or no wrong with it. Then again, it fired a pretty weak round.

Dang, it was THAT easy to get a sub-machine gun in those days? That sounds like heaven! Do you think that day will ever come back?
CrystalHunter1989 2 years ago 26
@CrystalHunter1989
Not unless the 1936 Machine Gun Ban is repealed. We can pretty much thank Dillinger, Barrow, and Kelly for that particular piece of legislation.
vitslog 2 years ago 3
Well, you never know! The way things are going now, we might get people in office who will repeal a LOT of things!

Oh yeah? Which SMG are you saying is the best of WWII?
jrpeters5 3 years ago
ppsh all you need is 3 drums mag for a hole battle
88pie88 3 years ago
Exactly, I hoped you would say that. Though there are many reasons why I think the PPsh-41 is the best SMG of the war. jrpeters5 3 years ago
yea but you are going to emty 7 rounds in a guy or more
88pie88 3 years ago
Not exactly, the PPsh-41 has such a high rate of fire (900 rounds per minute) that you have to fire in bursts in order to be anywhere accurate.
jrpeters5 3 years ago
Wich will run out of ammo ten times faster. And you'll still won't hit anything
coltblooded 3 years ago
too bad it was a russian smg so we were unable to use it
xCASTORAx 3 years ago
to bad they would of been useful for the Paras
88pie88 3 years ago
?!?!?! it would of been to heavy for paras thats why they used lightter guns like the tompson, garand and carbine
x0xErr0rx0x 3 years ago
that's cause the germans had some pretty friggen beastly guns...what about the mp40, the german smg
UNC3345 3 years ago
to accurate and when it shoots the mag moves so you have to hold it tight so it wont jam. mp-40 was exramly expensive it cost 8 mauser rifles.
88pie88 3 years ago
he coined the term but the tommy wasnt the first subgun
