If we had a WWIII there would be no survivors to tell the story to the children and grandchildren, there would be no inspirational movies, and no more world. WWII remains as one of the worst wars ever to happen and those who surived it should be thanked for their service, German, American, Japanese, Italian, British etc,
Only Clint Eastwood would think of the idea to film one War at two different perspectives, such a beautiful film and so well directed by the man himself, really creates sympathy from both sides for the other, while realising that no matter what country you are from, nobody deserves to die on the battlefield.
@SAM871wkh The movie got one point wrong about Hayes, he dies in a barn after a drunken poker night. Gagnon dies of a heart attack due to stress of his wife (she like the idea of being a "hero", he wanted to forgot the war), and Bradley wanted to go home and start a funeral business. Hayes suffered from PTSD, Bradley lived out his only dream. These men wanted to forget, but couldn't, and only Gagnon tried to live in the limelight, but failed.
La película me gusta (como la mayoría de Easwood como director). No obstante, me quedo con Cartas desde Iwo Jima. Tiene más sentimiento, representa un punto de vista diferente al tradicional y tiene una banda sonora espectacular.
My dad views this movie as sort of an insult to Americans and the veterans of World War II. @ordinaryteen17 War is something that no one wants to experience, we cant even imagine how terrible it was for those soldiers landing on the beach the brutality. this is not great, war is not great

@Snako85 No we dont use the term "greatest generation" in the UK it is considered glorifying the war.
And I belive the term Greatest Genration is one that came from mainland America a land that was untouched by the war where only the US armed forces suffered .
where as for us our people suffered to our cities where nearly wiped off the map and ships where sunk which nearly starved us with a relentless enemy only seperated by a channel of water.
@Snako85 Now dont get me wrong I think ever man woman and child that died was a hero but I think calling them the greatest generation gives them a negative effect if you look through the prior comments you see one guy saying
"sometimes i ask god why i was born at this time? i always wish that i could've been part of " The greatest generation" like my grandpa"
Now this I think is disgusting morrons like this guy who think it is fun who think it is a game ...
but to all the rest of us its the lost generation although some us call them " The Few" which I do.
Ive been all over the world France Australia USA ( East Coast New York City and all over the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to be PC but I digress) Low countries Ireland Germany Italy my point is the only people who I have ever herd use the term "Greatest Generation" is that of the Yankee boys.
@Snako85 But you must agree with me when someone wishes they where born in the time of the few it is disgusting right
Why whould you want to be born to fight in such a tragic brutal war idiots who think its fun who think its a game who think they know everything becuase they have completed Call of Duty on Hard a couple of times
and none of these people wanted to fight they just did what they had to do to deffend there home and then idiots think that what happend was entertaining.
@Snako85 Becuase lets be honest here the American Civilians had a very easy life infact the easiest life out of any other nation during the war but the US fighting man well that is a different story.
@WKJBProductions , Yes I will have to agreed with you that I really do not like the direction the human race is heading. I believe it was Albert Einstein who once was ask about WW3, and he said he didn't really know what the human race will fight WW3 with, but he did predicted that the fourth WW will be fought with sticks and stones.
@2010THEDRAGON My bet though is on no world war three. I have hope and I know there are people out there who are strong enough to keep man alive. We all have hope.
If we forget our HEROES, all terrible times wich happened will happen again and again and again. Thanks Gunny-Eastwood:) in my Italian home we love You. Thanks:)

I am sick and tired of people saying LFIJ is better then FOOF, HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?!?!?!?!? FOOF has better story, better action, better music, better everything. LFIJ is just people serviving and dying anyway, and I have to read everything they say! So bottom line, FOOF is the better film.
To say that FOOF was better because people survived would be to say it was better from the start.
BUT far as stories go, LFIJ was much better, because Clint told a number of people's backstories without chinking back & forth as infludly as in FOOF & did a better job of portraying the adversarial dynamic on that battlefield. Clint's thesis point was much more clear in LFIJ, probably because he thought about it while filming FOOF.
because its just a bunch of japs that go around trying to live but gets ownd, and FOOF has did the flag raising, and did LFIJ did the flag raising? NO
Like I said. Clint intended for them to be viewed together.. but even he said he did a better job on Foof, because it took more work and because he had FOOF to look back on and revise.
If that's all you got from LFIJ, then clearly you didn't watch it and you're just another person who wants to see a USA War Hero film.. which wasn't even Clint's intent for FOOF.
I'm almost certain you didn't see FOOF either, if flag raising & winning is all you got from that storyline, too.
FOOF started with a soldier running in the middle of nowere and then started to show old soldiers thats saying WERE IS HE WERE IS HE, a mother looking at the newspaper and saying he knows that person on the picture, there were some other people who raised the flag but took it down because the flag needed for something else, so they replased it with onother flag and took the picture, later the Afican american was fighting in the streets (continue on another comment)
and the African american refused to raised the flag in the crowds on the stadium, but he did it and when he did it, he got drunk, so many flash backs in the war, so many action that blows my mind.
LFIJ started with present day showing diggers finding something and then the timeline went into WW2, showing soldiers digging and one of them is saying that we should just give this island to the americans, he has a wife and the wife is pregnent, he makes letters to her (continue on another comment)
some action, so many reading on what they are saying wich reeeeaaaalllyyy brings the movie down, but some english here and there, staying in tunnels, commiting suicide, finding a american soldier, treeting him well, dying later, a sargent killing himself, a soldier taking mines and waiting for a tank but never gets one, the soldier that said he wants the americans to get this island in the end he has a shuvle and digs up boddies and the american army takes him (continue on another comment)
Oh well, you still missed the point of both of em. You should probably watch them again.
Oh well, I'm gone. I was just looking for OST tracks anyway.
But seriously, even Clint says himself he did LFIJ better and gave it more thought, and he wrote the movies, so there's really no arguing with that.
You're debating the history itself, not the movies based on them. If you saw LFIJ at all and paid it any attention, you'd know there was more than just Japs dying.
You can if you want to. I just wont see it xD. You sound like you only scanned it anyway.
Seems like you cleanly missed the fact that JUST AS IN FOOF, it was telling individual's stories. Both movies were about the same thing: People who's lives were interrupted & ended by politics & war.
That was the theme of BOTH movies. Clint just did better in LFIJ than FOOF because he USED FOOF & more research to revise LFIJ.
The only reason to like FOOF more is if you just like pro USA movies more.
o.o Then you totally missed Clint Eastwood's point of either film he made. You didn't even have to watch the movies to get what little you did from it. Everybody knows who wins & loses that battle in history.
Good job missing the director's whole point & message, after all the work & research he put into making valuable, colorful films =).
John Wayne films are probably more your speed, though.
You and everyone else arguing about it totally missed the fact Clint intended to have both these films viewed together as contrasting points, but you can tell he didn't think of that idea until he was half way through FOOF.
See, he didn't even think of making LFIJ until around then. Then he probably took a look at FOOF to see what could be done better in LFIJ. So, even if you asked Clint, he'd say LFIJ was the better chapter, resulting from more work & revision than FOOF.
Though saving private ryan was "unrealistic" you have to admit they did show the horrors of the normandy landings well, and also if you dont like the gore then dont watch it because if you dont like the reality of war, then dont watch it
this was a great movie. Saving prv. ryan was unrealistic. It was fake. Unlike this, this is based on ture life. Not the te invasin of normandy was false, the story of prv. ryan was false, and made even worse by the gore
For once an accurate film, based on true events, although the way Isa Hayes was treated later on in the US was a total disgrace, considering he was a native american. My grandad was on the Normandy landings in ww2 with the Brits and fellow Yanks, he always joked that the Yanks were real cockey, but you could always trust them till the end.
I love the fact that they made a Movie that shows 2 sides of the conflict Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima both movies Realistic
its not like that Saving Pvt Ryan crap where its like a squad of U.S. soldiers go out Run infront of MG-42s and kill every single German that gets in there way... that was the most unrealistic piece of shit I have ever seen..
But THIS this is different.. they made the War realistic for the U.S. and Japanese
You're an idiot, don't even use "unrealistic" and "Saving Private Ryan" in the same sentence.
That shit was as real as it gets, you wouldn't understand until you actually encounter war, put in the shoes a kid from Boston, barely out of high school having to kill another human being,.
The D-day vets couldn't watch it in theaters, they literally left.
ARE YOU FUCKING STUIPED what the fuck does living a hard life have to do with WAR!! DUMBASS
This whole fucking movie was not about Omaha was not about Normandy you fuck! how long was D-Day in this movie 12 fucking minutes
12 fucking minutes can't summarize war!
12 minutes can't describe D-Day!
Saving Pvt Ryan was unrealistic GARBAGE unlike you I have done my home work I have done reserch and I have talked to MANY veterans from the war NOT just Allies
Exactly. The German soldiers weren't evil nor the Japanese. The War and the people who lead them where. People need to understand war is ugly and there is no good vs evil because as humans we all have evil within us. The old fighting the good fight was propaganda. In just every soldier considered there war as fighting he good fight. War is ugly. All this war crimes talk is bullshit because how can one commit a crime in war when we all are killing?
YEAH! hitler was the only one who was really evil, but he just got power drunk. Heck 1 week before pearl harbour the Japanese goverment sent a message to the americans to declare war, but the americans never got it.
I want to dedicate this to my Uncle Bill, who was wounded on Iwo Jima during the first hours of the invasion, he was only 18 yrs old when he witnessed his entire squad get cut down by machine gun fire before he too was also hit, he was put on a hospital ship where he said he thought he also lost his hearing, he said a Navy Chaplain gave him a Bible to read while he laid on his stretcher, and soon his hearing came back, quite a story, I'm glad he is still around today to tell his story.
((((R.I.P)))) Ira Hayes, John (Doc) Bradley, Rene Gagnon, Mike Strank, Harlon Block And Franklin Sousley !!! Flag Raisers Of The Second Flag On Iwo Jima The Invincible Rock
If you're going to comment on an American war movie about American serviceman fighting one of America's bloodiest battles in the history of America, please kindly speak English or keep your thoughts to yourself.
Excellent movie from an excellent director, Clint Eastwood, so glad he made a realistic Iwo Jima movie, so we don't have to rely on the unrealistic "Sands of Iwo Jima" as the only movie about the battle.
to use the term american as a language is used alot, caveman where have you been? what? are you going to comfront everyone who uses that term? because if you are i would suggest for you to carry about some boxing gloves because youre going to get alot of shit from ppl because of that
Nevermind I take that back Boots Thomas was in the movie. Remember the part where the platoon is between 2 cliffs and you see a soldier with a radio and he starts yelling but gets shot in the helmet by machine gun fire then Mike Strank dies by friendly fire well the soldier who was holding the radio was Boots Thomas
I read the book and saw the movie and I loved the movie and the book. My favorite characters were Ira Hayes, Howlin Mad Smith, and Boots Thomas. Howlin Mad Smith and Boots Thomas weren't in the movie though :(
What do you Islamic extremists are up to around the world? The entire world is at war with extremist Islamist terrorism.
Russia, China, India, Europe, Africa and America are under attack from Islamic extremist terrorists who are fighting around the world to force Islam through terror.
America and the Soviet Union fought World War 3 in small wars between proxies in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and South America. Millions of people died.
World War 3 is going on between Islamic terrorist groups across the Middle East and the world against America, Russia, China and India.
damn, that is so true...but valkyrie nor 300 is sad in a way to make people cry...but the sig-ride of vakyries is pretty good too......at 2:28s is the best part of the music....
Movies can not make me cry. I did not cry when I saw 300, Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan, Letters from Iwo Jima, Valkyrie, or Black Hawk Down. But I have to admit, this movie made me cry. Clint Eastwood is an incredible director.
yes they did but thats not from the enemy it was from thair commanding officers i was meaning that usa losed lots of troops to the enemy sutch as the brits germans, muslims, nam,and any others
American losses to all enemies from 1775 to the present day only adds up to about 1.5 million at the most, the Soviets lost that many men in six months of fighting against the Russians, Chinese and Russian losses in just WWII are enormous compared to our losses in the past 226 years.
Okay, im mad, I have been on google like all day, now im trying Youtube, I have an old Iwo Jima pic from Press Association Inc. of the flag raising (Replacement Flag), If you know ANYTHING about it, I would like the help, there is faded text I can send you too help if you are able 2, ty, This movie is FTW btw XD
tears are running down...dropping on the ground and I can´t find words...to describe that feeling, of emphaty for the true victims of war and his consequenses!!!
After 2.27 => it's the best part of this soundtrack

Letters from Iwo Jima is combat-based on Iwo Jima.
Flags of our Fathers is more the moment of raising the flag and the moments afterwards. Meanwhile they get flashbacks.

LFIJ started with present day showing diggers finding something and then the timeline went into WW2, showing soldiers digging and one of them is saying that we should just give this island to the americans, he has a wife and the wife is pregnent, he makes letters to her (continue on another comment)
smallvile1992 2 years ago
some action, so many reading on what they are saying wich reeeeaaaalllyyy brings the movie down, but some english here and there, staying in tunnels, commiting suicide, finding a american soldier, treeting him well, dying later, a sargent killing himself, a soldier taking mines and waiting for a tank but never gets one, the soldier that said he wants the americans to get this island in the end he has a shuvle and digs up boddies and the american army takes him (continue on another comment)
smallvile1992 2 years ago
at the end the diggers find letters
soooooo your saying that I need to see these movies again? I watched them many times and not long ago I saw them.
I have perfect taste in both of them and I enjoy both of them and I enjoy FOOF way more, there you go
smallvile1992 2 years ago
@smallvile1992 He was a native american not black
Hns1094 2 years ago
@smallvile1992
TaichouInkei 2 years ago
I didnt finish
smallvile1992 2 years ago
You can if you want to. I just wont see it xD. You sound like you only scanned it anyway.
Seems like you cleanly missed the fact that JUST AS IN FOOF, it was telling individual's stories. Both movies were about the same thing: People who's lives were interrupted & ended by politics & war.
That was the theme of BOTH movies. Clint just did better in LFIJ than FOOF because he USED FOOF & more research to revise LFIJ.
The only reason to like FOOF more is if you just like pro USA movies more.
TaichouInkei 2 years ago
yep, I like FOOF better because its more into USA
smallvile1992 2 years ago
@smallvile1992
o.o Then you totally missed Clint Eastwood's point of either film he made. You didn't even have to watch the movies to get what little you did from it. Everybody knows who wins & loses that battle in history.
Good job missing the director's whole point & message, after all the work & research he put into making valuable, colorful films =).
John Wayne films are probably more your speed, though.
TaichouInkei 2 years ago
I dont even look up info of why the directors make there movies
and no Im not into John Wayne
smallvile1992 2 years ago
@smallvile1992
You should.. else you can't really appreciate the movies they make.. especially when you watch them and only get the bare gist of them.
Annnd that's too bad, cuz all John Wayne ever did was lame USA win movies.
TaichouInkei 2 years ago
@smallvile1992
TaichouInkei 2 years ago
Though saving private ryan was "unrealistic" you have to admit they did show the horrors of the normandy landings well, and also if you dont like the gore then dont watch it because if you dont like the reality of war, then dont watch it
MrLibertyprime 2 years ago
this was a great movie. Saving prv. ryan was unrealistic. It was fake. Unlike this, this is based on ture life. Not the te invasin of normandy was false, the story of prv. ryan was false, and made even worse by the gore
TommyGavin5 2 years ago

But THIS this is different.. they made the War realistic for the U.S. and Japanese
this is a true War Movie
this is REAL history
RazorCell7 2 years ago
You're an idiot, don't even use "unrealistic" and "Saving Private Ryan" in the same sentence.
That shit was as real as it gets, you wouldn't understand until you actually encounter war, put in the shoes a kid from Boston, barely out of high school having to kill another human being,.
The D-day vets couldn't watch it in theaters, they literally left.
GBcovers 2 years ago
ARE YOU FUCKING STUIPED what the fuck does living a hard life have to do with WAR!! DUMBASS
This whole fucking movie was not about Omaha was not about Normandy you fuck! how long was D-Day in this movie 12 fucking minutes
12 fucking minutes can't summarize war!
12 minutes can't describe D-Day!
Saving Pvt Ryan was unrealistic GARBAGE unlike you I have done my home work I have done reserch and I have talked to MANY veterans from the war NOT just Allies
REAL smart learning from HollyWood
idiot
RazorCell7 2 years ago
Dude, moss.
I never said anything about living a hard life at all, are you high?
Do you at least have any proof that it's not realistic and a crap movie? Cause if you don't, i suggest you shut up.
GBcovers 2 years ago
Honestly the movie was unrealistic in many ways. Most veterans say that the band of brothers series was realistic as it gets.

Want realism? Go join a fucking war and there you have your realism! PEOPLE DIED OVER THERE! D: And you complain about realism!?! GAWD! T_T
Sheesh im so overracting! Dx
Shurryy 2 years ago

This was good.... the ending was sad. The people completely forgot the sacrifices of the soldiers.
I prefer Letters From Iwo Jima though, they also show alot of sadness and sacrifices that the people mite have forgotten...

American losses to all enemies from 1775 to the present day only adds up to about 1.5 million at the most, the Soviets lost that many men in six months of fighting against the Russians, Chinese and Russian losses in just WWII are enormous compared to our losses in the past 226 years.

Correction, the Soviets lost that many men in six months fighting against the Germans, sorry.
