@100violins It was composed by George Enescu! nd not everthing what's on Wikipedia is true! I'm from Romania and a lots of thinks that is wrote on wikipedia about Romania is wrong! Especially about Vlad Tepes!....
@100violins lol stop taking wikipedia as a real source of information, i dont think you even know what wikipedia is ...everybody can modify and write content there
Is not a gypsy song is a traditional Romanian song. Romanians are not gypsies! Just because the USA has a lot of black people doesn't make it African, East Europe is full of gypsies in every country, they are nomads they adapt very easy and their language is not Romanian, they have a gypsy language, they learn Romanian as well as Spanish or Italian or any other country they go to and have children. Same thing with the music.
@100violins wikipedia can be written by anybody.... i am 100 % romanian , i know what i'm talking about.... it's our culture...don't send me to wikipedia OK???!!! and it's not called ciocarlia "the lark " it's called CIOCARLIA !!!! don't make me say the 2 things about gypsies that are reprezentative....
Prince Nicolae Bibesco patronized Romania's Le Cabaret Roumain at the 1889 Paris Universal Exhibition.A young gipsy lautar(player) composed a panpipe piece called The Lark ( documented in the papers). His name is Anghelus Dinicu. His grandson wrote the violin version and promoted/played it brilliantlly later. This is not popular music, but lautareasca ( played by lautar for the high society mainly). It is inspired by Romanian folklore, but IT IS NOT folklore.
It was not composed by Grogoras Dinicu, it was not composed by Ciprian Porumbescu either. Enescu and Grigoras Dinicu were inspired by romania folklor. There are many versions of this song (Gheorhe Zamfir and Phoenix I like the best), but Grigoras Dinicu is the one who made it popular.
Oh I love the Balkan music.(also the Balkan folk dance & music) and they play from memory ...even better..the best. THANK YOU for posting...I play violin but not like that..maybe if I had a Hungarian or Romanian teacher...I should have lived in Europe...(though my roots are from Calcutta, India.)
I guess we are missing the point: music is universal, nationalism fight over which is better, hungarian or romanian folclore makes no sense. Each has its own charm. We should be glad we have diversity in beauty rather than question each others values. Don't you think?
@Freakschwimmer For pity's sake, this is not classical music! The instrument never determines the genre. This is popular, folk music, played in a wild way, and of course the audience is overwhelmed with the atmosphere and expresses this.
Unfortunatley Grigoras Dinicu didn't compose this song; fortunatley he saved it from the acient body of anonymous Romanian folkloric music and brought it back to life. To that he should be given much credit, but not for composing it!
look here romanian gypsy not bad people up romania :-bd

intoXtheXsunrise 2 years ago 2
@intoXtheXsunrise you are so right the audience is somewhat stupid.....
with classical ( meaning music for violin, cello, etc... ) there is to be no applause until the piece is played completly
