Just a flashover, not a backdraft. backdrafts occur during a decay phase of fire where it is deprived of oxygen, when oxygen is reintroduced it would cause an explosion, which did not occur. flashover occurs around the growth period but before a fully developed fire, which is opposite from when a backdraft occurs. So why this video has the word backdraft in the title... i do not know
Oh what has the fire service become...way to many people hiding behind the culture of safety and forgetting what our job is. Were supposed to protect lives and property, not keep the home owner company while their house burns down...just saying
I dont understand why they were fooling around with everything(hose and such), and why they were still so close to the structure, and they shouldve been on a defensive mode, house was gone anyway they way it looked, unless you had possible entrapment but most likely the vic wouldve been deceased anyway
Near miss implies that they were hit with fire. If it were a near hit then they escaped without fire touching them. However it is, its just semantics. People can learn a lot from these videos coupled with comments, well comments outside of mine that is. It does open ones eyes a little as to what these folks have to do.
When the first firey's come out - looks like they drag a PPV fan from the porch - i'd almost bet that if you seen the moments before this clip starts that starting up the PPV fan created a ventilation-induced flashover into o a heavily under-ventilated fire.
I think the worst thing about this video is not why they were in the house with those conditions, it's how they reacted when things went to crap. Guys are still burning and no ones doing ANYTHING. One guy has to knock a guy out of his way to get out.
I used to be a firefighter until this one day, my station went out to on working house fire call.
I really had to poop, so when we got to the house on fire, i ran in to use the bathroom. when i was finished, i came backout side and asked the chief what needed to be done, but they had already had the fire out, and were doing the overhaul. Needless to say, I got fired that day. Cheif said that was the most reckless display he'd ever seen. But the thing that's even worse is, I forgot to flush :O
You have to wonder why they are doing interior on a house thats already done, there is 0% chance anyone is alive in that house, why risk firefighters on that house?
Yo brother, I guess I'll try to explain a bit. Firemen go inside until they can't. They do this to protect lives and property as they swore to when they became a member or got hired in whichever department they represent. Now, the whole 0% chance thing...it's not conclusive. It's an assumption. While I'm not trying to bash you, I'm just going to go forth and say that there is no way of knowing who's alive until they are in front of me and pronounced dead.
People can hide in closets and unaffected rooms or void spaces that cannot always be seen from the front lawn standpoint. A fire like that can be handled with a handline and a prepared pipeman. The way the fire looks dramatic doesn't always mean it's an impossible to extinguish. Regardless of the outcome, a fireman always has to try...always. Try until they physically can't anymore or until the structure is showing blatant warning signs of being untenable.
Just becasue something "looks scary" or dramatic is really no grounds to not make the effort. To justify not making an effort would simply be masked laziness or cowardice. While no fireman wants to die, the role of a fireman on a fire isn't always about the fireman. He's there to try to save a life or property, hence the history of the fire department being described in detail with stories of the acts of selfless men who give their all for those who need help.
So basically, the fireman is simply going to do his job by trying to make a push on the fire and do everything in his power to extinguish the fire. When you make an effort to extinguish the fire quickly, no matter how bad, it will be a direct stand against the fire getting any worse. When the fire is handled, the situation automatically gets better. Today's fire service seems to put the fireman and his uncertainty or fear of going inside to put out a fire as a priority.
In my opinion, and in the opinion of my closest Brothers, I'm always going to make my best efforts to save a life or property until I physically cannot anymore. Perhaps it's a classic mindset passed on by firemen I'll never in my lifetime live up to from generations past, however I live by it and I get results. So that's just my take on it. Hopefully, it answers your statement for you.
I love a good discussion, so if you'd like to further it feel free to contact me.
if there was a back draft it occurred before they started taping the video. you can see fire from the start. in other words WE do not see a back draft here. however they are dealing with rapidly increasing fire volume. I believe this is more of a flash over.
Im not trying to be the one who sticks out like a sore thumb and finds everything wrong, but why is the video called "Flashover Backdraft" when a flashover and a backdraft are two different things? Im confused here. Please get your title right. Good video though.
@nsrailfann4life91 you have a valid point. a flashover is when everything in a room reaches such a temperature that everything ignites all at once, and a backdraft is when the fire gets a sudden surge of oxygen and fans out rapidly, often resulting in an explosion. This video looks more like just a backdraft, due to the volume of smoke, and the horizontal ventilation done before action was taken to extinguish the fire.
RIT has not always been around. There is no telling when this video was taken. Also @MegaBull84 Opinions are like assholes: Everyone has them. Not to mention Germany is a country. If you want to at least say something sustantial, you wouldn't say your "country" is the best firefighter school.
That's like me saying Italy is the best firefighter school. She how retarded that looks?
@BC1Dan Sheila says "opinions are like ass holes everyone have one."" Tommy replys " no its opinions are like ass holes everyone THEM you know Plural use your tenses!" -Tommy Gavin, Rescue Me------- salute the 343!!!
@kyfireman2287 Now you cant really say there was no RIT team, RIT could have been staged back behind this fence (where the camera man is). Lets not jump to conclusions.
