@smemfy First, learn how the orthodox chord changes work. Second, look at the notes in those chords and how they relate to each other and the notes in other chords. Third, play with those relations -- throw in an extra or changed note, either something exotic or just different, or a new chord altogether. Then see how those notes fit together, or how they don't.

Or that's how I'd simplify it. It's a combination of knowledge and experimenting. But I'm no expert, so it's just a suggestion.
