Buff times on Conjurer are restricting. 3-5 minuts and when you look at times to navigate the map, chase down enemies, thats 1 kill per buff. Conjurer requires that you have your Phys equal to your Conj level. As RocsLock said, they are a glass cannon. Conjurer/ Pugalist might make a sturdy class.

I was really hoping they would make the game playable solo passed level 8 , unlike FFXI, I guess there is improvement, but taking 10 minutes to kill a low level non hostile mob is still way too slow paced, not to mention that you're too often close to death. Forcing people to group to play isn't a game, it becomes a job and a waste of time.

I never had a problem with conjurer healing. Did you put points into dexterity? I notice you missed with radiance (that can get very VERY annoying) but with using spirit dart with radiance and keeping shock spikes up, you can keep mp up at a steady rate and even faster in parties. Currently level 16 in beta 3 as conjurer and it's a fun party supporter, no problems at all but I haven't tried thaumaturge so I am not 100% sure about that :)

i see nothing wrong with the speed of the battles. in ANY type of rpg, i hate when theres no point in using debuffs and buffs... the battle would never last long enough.

Battle speed looks fine. A little faster wouldn't hurt, but it's not like it's unbearably slow. What's the appeal of killing stuff in 2 seconds anyways. This game is for people that like to savor the fights, not breeze through mobs (but still find a way to grind them in a relatively fast, efficient way of course).

Next to the mob name there is a little icon which changes colour as you level this indicates how hard it is to kill.

Red : Very hard

Orange: Hard

Green: Decent Challenge

Blue: Easy Prey

The game will modify these colours for mob dificulty when you are in a party also, so red may go down to Decent Challenge for example even though your the same level.

well blizzard do the most damage because i think you choosed the fury guardian which has the element of ice thats the 1st possiblity :) .. or another possibility it maybe because you are attacking Dodo ( Wind element Mob ) FFXIV element system WIND is weak against ICE .. both are possible ... :D

Thanks so much for going in to detail on all your vids. My only gripe so far is that all of the animations and effects seem so underwhelming. FFXI was pretty impressive, with a next gen platform and visual capacity I sort of expected more. Then again, these are super low levels and i'm sure the high level abilities will look more impressive.

The cool down bars are seriously buffed up as well. In any class you have to attack at least 10-15 times before it runs out and you have to wait for a while, but even then the waiting period isn't too long at all. And as for a 3 second casting time, that's nothing mate.

If you really wish to play as a mage, you should party up or else you will indeed end up dying, or using many pots.

@TheMoreofme The community sites such as Eorzeapedia and FFXIVcore do a pretty good job of explaining the system in the absence of a really good break down of the content from FFXIV's home page. There are two Magic classes in FFXIV. Conjurer learns the normal healing abilities from WHM and elemental magic from BLM. Thaumaturge learns divine and dark magic spells as well as enfeebling types. There is no "DD Mage / Support Mage" split. Both classes can accomplish both tasks.
