  • Beautiful song.one of my BEST..long live U2.BONO & ADAM.GOD BLESS YOU.

    salute from Srilanka.

  • Lucky enough to have coughed up $50.00 to see them in '81 at the Orpheum Theater in Boston. That was alot of money! They brought the house down with this song. Saw them on the Left Coast at the L.A. Sports Arena in '85 for the Unforgettable Fire Tour. They did Gloria again that night. Both nights I was proud to be Irish!

  • This song is one of the their best. I need to go back and listen to October again--it's been YEARS. Wish Bono still rocked that beautiful mullet of youth and naivety.

  • Actually I think Bono looks fantastic here. No greasy hair or wanky sunglasses here! I remember the first time I saw this clip way back when. The music was so different to anything else we had heard and it was brilliant.

  • One of my fav u2 songs ......cheers for posting !

  • I love Bono's hair. That look is so sexy. And Larry is adorable in his pea coat. Gloria is a classic. So is this video. Greatest band on the planet!

  • I saw them as an opening act for the J Geils Band in Ft Lauderdale FL in 1982 and they had big 80s hair but they rocked....

  • Ahhh yes, one of the first videos I ever saw on MTV. For me, that would be late 1982 (back when they played music).

  • i agree

  • Hey pikmin doode, I'm a believer and just ran across yer poast about Bono being a believer.

Though it's hard to imagine not living a "life of pleasure" on the road as these lads do, I will say that when I was in the USN, I actually wrote to U2 and asked about the meaning of this song(this was 1988)

I got a reply that red something like "deciding to believe in God opens up all sorts of other questions.."

It may not be a good answer, but it's what I got.

    Peace!

  • @rgouette Oh, well thank you,so you are speaking of "this " song? because I want to know about the song called "I still havent found what I'm looking for". This song is awesome and a praise song if ive ever heard one...you agree? Oh, BTW I'm not a dood.Thank you for answering> kind of you.

  • @xPikmin2x Yip speaking of "Still haven't Found..."

ANd hey, we're all doodes aren't we?

I swore it was a unisex moniker....

    :>

  • @rgouette huh/ I'm a girl.u can call me dood, I call my friends doods too.(girls)

  • Once again I will wait for a fellow Believer to comment.

  • Sir Bono!

  • Adam's hair looks like Uwe's hair in the 99 Luftballoon video

  • U2 at the height of their raw power. They should stop being political and just be a great band. Great song.

  • GLORIA exalted! Oh LORD LISTEN TO MY LIPS! GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST!

  • Will someone ..ANYONE explain to me wtheck happened to u2? They used to be sooooooo good! SO Spiritual! Then songs like " I still havent found what I'm looking for?" Yuck! I LOVE this song. This I s the only u2 I listen to....Unless they change back. Please come back prodigal sons! :-j I know we should all pray for them! x D

  • @xPikmin2x well, bono does a lot of work to try to eradicate hunger. he hasn't gone anywhere, he's just doing it differently now.

  • @tranurse no offense but you are not in the position to understand what im pertaining to. ou see the good deeds he is doing ,and are judging him on those acts of kindness, nothing wrong with helping others in need .but i'm reffering to his spiritual status.now you prob say how can i know that/ you know a tree by its fruit. his music inspires one way or anoither. no matter if people say "its just music" Its much more.just look at the comments! esp.for the older songs. thanx! :-) my bros n sis no.

  • @tranurse Can you please explain to me what you think the song i still havent found what im looking for means to you?The lyrics seem pretty clear to me. :-O ?

  • @xPikmin2x Honestly I AM ASSUMING THAT U2 was singing songs as CHRISTians. But I may be wrong. Why/ Ive never hears them say so in their early times? Any one? I dont have the time to do the research. One thing I can say for sure is that their songs had so much depth and meaning in the beginning. Now I just dont like as much..and some i just cant stand. :-l. Plus Bono seems full of himself. ;-P

  • @xPikmin2x bono still claims to be a christian. and, believe it or not, so am i. james is the one who said faith without works is dead.

  • @xPikmin2x The song "I still havent found what im looking for" is beautiful... He's an honest CHRISTian. His music is how he voices himself... and he does it very beautifully... They are and always have been a great band... Just cause he's honest doesnt mean there not good.

  • @MrSmellGood217 Well Thank you for that but..seriously that song in particular I cant think of what he means when he says he still hasnt found what hes looking for. How hes held the hand of the devil and spoke with tongues of angels but I still havent found what I'm looking for? Then hes got the audacity to sing You carried the cross of my shame you know I believe yet I still havent found what I'm looking for?! wtheck?! That dumb chorus is pretty self explanatory. I cant stand even repeating

  • @xPikmin2x When he says hes held the hand of the devil and spoke with tongues of angels but I still havent found what I'm looking for... He's saying he's tasted both good and evil, but cant fill the emptiness he has. he still hasnt found what he's looking for. And then his "audacity" is honesty. He says he believes but doesnt understand. There is nothing wrong with being honest, or asking questions. People like you make it hard to ask any question. Because all of the sudden we're evil for asking

  • @MrSmellGood217 Now how do you figure that is beautiful? I'm sorry but I just cant understand why he would write such a song..Its as if he is saying I've experienced it all even CHRISTianity...but he still hasent found what hes looking for. This is a clear message to the non-believers that CHRIST is not the WAY..that hes still searching. I dont know...If someones got a better interpritation then let me hear it,. I just keep hearing i'm wrong. Then explain to me those lyrics. Give me more.

  • @xPikmin2x

Bono is a Christian and he's expressed that several times over the years, so I doubt he trying to turn people away.

  • @RufusRamen Alright,. I'm not saying he is not a Christian,I'm not saying he is one. For now why wont anyone answer my question? My question is..I hate yes hate the song "I still haven't found what I'm looking for" please review the lyrics and IF Bono is a true Christian then what is the meaning of those lyrics? Thanks.

  • @xPikmin2x

Does the song have to be about God? I mean he could have been having a hard time with a number of things, maybe he is still trying to find Gods Grace if that's how you want to look at the song.

  • Comment removed

  • @RufusRamen Okay, see this is the problem i dont know why a true born-again Christian would be in search of GODS grace when it is a free gift given to his children, you never have to "search" that is the whole point of free grace. May be a Christian one who is supporting the notion that Bono is a Christian can explain the lyrics i posted on the last page ..PLEASE?

  • @xPikmin2x

Perhaps at the time of this songs release he wasn't th religious, maybe he isn't now, maybe he is searching for love not god (not love from God either). Does it matter, the song is great no matter what it is about.

  • @RufusRamen Not to political but Pres. Obama "claims" to be a Christian also..=-(

  • @xPikmin2x He's honest. some of the greatest christians are afraid to admit that they once asked questions. Mark Lowry one of my favorites, sang a song while with the Gaither Vocal Band, that says "Lord,"(This being a paraphrase)" Ive seen alot of crazy things done in your name... I know the tricks behind the magic show... Ive almost thrown the towel in a time or two, and walked away form everything I know. but I cant fill this emptiness inside of me, or calm the trouble waters of my mind...."

  • @xPikmin2x This is a continuation of the other reply... "SO IF YOUR REALLY OUT THERE,THEN PROVE TO ME THAT THOSE WHO SEEK WILL FIND! If you can just see fit to show me some of who you are, If you can shed some light into this broken sinner's heart. I need to know the truth and I need something I can feel. I need you... To Make it real." Everyone goes through a time in there life where they ask questions. Why cant he be honest? Why is his honesty such a problem for you?

  • @xPikmin2x I am a Strong Christian. I love the Lord... Honesty is a virtue taught in the bible. which is GOD's word... so for him to be honest and you have a problem is not right... what example do you set when u say someone is wrong or something someone said is ugly, when he is just saying, "Lord, show me what i cant find." Thats all. Bono's testimony is fantastic and whether you like to think so or not, he is a great christian in search of being a better christian. I respect that very much so

  • @MrSmellGood217 I dont know of a CHRISTian song that a true child of GOD has written where he ENDS the LYRICS with IM STILL EMPTY GOD DIDNT DO IT 4 ME. Yes we all struggle from time 2 time in our walk but we dont create a song about it glorifying it & leaving it at that as if GOD isnt enough! Im Still empty. If there is it is not edifying & what do U think the non-believer is 2 take away from this song? I know what I thought when I was still lost,I thought hmm If GODs not the way who is?

  • @xPikmin2x oh i agree totally.. what is a nonbeliever supposed to get out of that? nothing but wrongs and lies. Bono will answer for that one day though. But what im saying to YOU is why is it so ugly that a man is honest about his opinion? yea you dont like it, but its not ur opinion either. You dont have to like it. He's looking for answers he cant find, & thats too bad that he wont except faith. Faith is believing even though you dont have the answers. Thats the difference between us&him.

  • @xPikmin2x he just needs help finding that. Im not trying to be mean if i came off that way at all. All i was simply saying was that i liiked his honesty. Not that i agreed with him. Cause i dont. I found was i looking for through CHRIST. maybe he will too. Maybe he already has. But thats between Bono and CHRIST. Sorry if i came off the wrong way.

  • @MrSmellGood217 Oh no worries Brother, I'm not easily offended, Thank U 4 YOUR honesty in admitting how you view the lyrics also! Only I wish he would keep his choice not 2 follow CHRIST (which BTW is what It seems he is saying at least to me) out of his song that people will sing 2,Its almost like they are chanting these words & I 'm a big believer that music does influence people whether they admit it or not.(most say I dont listen 2 the lyrics I dont care just listen to the beat)

  • Classic.

  • 0:18 - 0:24 LMFAO!!!..............

  • ahahha i see what u did there lmao

  • In 1981 on hearing this song I rushed to a record store (as they were known then) and asked owner if he had an album by

U2. His reponse U WHO??? And the rest as they say is history.

This song is not about his mother it is a song exulting God. Where do you people get that this sing is anti-god or about his mother? It is so bloody obvious that it is a stongly religious (Irish-Catholic) song. Maybe some politics plays in.

Bloody beautiful song then and now 28 years later.

  • Actually "I Will Follow: was the song about his mother, from the previous album. When I tried to get this album it was available initially because the band was changing labels.

  • about his mother? I doubt it.

  • that there, my friends, is a power mullet.

  • bono is not anti god. this song is about his mother!!!

  • BNO929 >

How could anybody think of this song as anti god ???!!!

This song is not about is mother, you're confusing it with "Tomorrow".

  • It's about Jesus.

  • Does anybody realize U2's"Religious roots"?

This wasn't the first (Nor last) time that Bono evoked Religious Themes in their music!

...If you like U2,you might be more religious than youmight think?

    rbwsoul

  • they are all christians REAL! christians not someone who just claims they are.

and theres nothing wrong with that.

  • ya and one of the last songs (maybe the last idk i forget) on WAR is almost word for word a psalm... just saying

  • It is a psalm, you are not imagining things.

  • I take it this was filmed around Ringsend /. Poolbeg area?

  • I hated (and I rarely do) U2 for years, mostly thanks to Bono acting like an idiot and growing up with bad U2 songs being played on the radio. I mean, I liked one or two songs but as a bad I still couldnt stand them..... I heard Gloria a few months ago, and. God. The Edges guitar is so brilliant and moving and makes me want to get up and just DO something, and the build up around minute 3! This song lead me to the album, this lead me to War/Boy, and finally I can say: Early U2 <3 <3 <3 <3Thanks!

  • I was the first kid on the block and maybe even my whole town to have a u2 album. All from this video. They were so unknown then.

  • still had passion before bono's ego....

  • u2 at thier best....

  • These guitar rifs "kill" me

  • Good old U2 when they were really powerful!!

  • Guy I went to high school with looked just like Bono.

  • I wish I could play guitar like The Edge

  • Call me crazy but I think tis is the best song they ever did. It's definitely in my all time top 20.

  • Not crazy. I agree!!

  • me thrice... awesome...

  • @glasfurd31 Its in my top ten :-)

  • @glasfurd31 .i agree the old ones r best.but vertigo is up there with the oldies

  • @glasfurd31 jerks from allmusic hate this song and album while they adore their stuff from late 90ies and 00es. mamu im jebem!

  • Holy crap is that Avril Mordaunt at 2:38. C'mon now you know who you are. SHS day off?

  • Inspirational

  • I totally love the guitar and the bass in this song !!

    A pretty artistic video too...

  • How can you not listen to this song and wish you were 18 forever? If only u2 could return to their past work for inspiration for their future work.

  • bassist kicks ass! bono, amazing voice! the edge, unbelievable!! drummer, has my foot constantly tapping to the drumbeat!!!!

  • I LOVE HIS HAIR, QUIET.

  • you cant argue with them being the best band its true

  • u2 is the greatest band on earth

  • i always liked u2 they are one of my favorite bands

  • It's really too bad they used the short edit of this song for the orig. video. The end of the song is superb and should go on much, much longer.

  • beautiful song.

    awful hair. ^___^

poor Bono and Adam; it's gotta be awkward to look back at this...

  • Being a water person, I love this setting. What a magnificent song and such a musical gift!

  • Still love this. I remember watching this video on Mtv in regular rotation back in 81.

First song i heard by them i think. Thx for upload

  • I think it was the first song I heard of them too! Its amazing. I'm definitely a longtime fan of theirs. I would not say I hate Bono now, nor the group, I just don't think the newer music is quite as stirring. As for Bono, he is trying to do something wonderful with his life. I give him credit.

  • Gloria!

    In Te Domine!

    Gloria!

    Exultate!

  • they once were incredable

they've now let us down and before giving me a thumbs down just think about how everything cept a few songs after rattle and hum have been horrible and bono was onced loved by all he's now just loved by the masses and us true fans hate what he has become

amazing band tho i love them i'm not doubting them

    it's just what they've become

    good video

  • You're entitled to your opinion, even if I don't agree. But I wanted to thank you for actually backing up your arguement a bit instead of just saying "They're crap".

I don't think it's what they've become, I think they've evolved, changed with time, re-invented themselves, and for the most part, pulled it off. By no means have they always been perfect, but I think saying that true fans hate Bono is a bit odd. I don't want to start an arguement, I'm just saying...

  • They have evolved and changed with the times. You can't stay the same for thirty years, you'll go stagnant. They're still wonderful, just doing different things. And you can always revisit the old stuff here on youtube! :D

  • Henry Rollins always hated U2, especially Bono. I love this song, "Bad" and "Mysterious Ways," though, and think their appearance at Live Aid in 1985 ranks with Hendrix at Monterey and Nirvana unplugged as one of the great moments in music television. Joy Division in '79 and Sigur Ros in '03 deserve equal mention here as well.

  • I totally respect you for stating your opinion in a constructive, straightforward manner. I have to agree with you on that aspect. I would love U2 to really go way back to their early roots and remove the political and celebrity aspect of their music. I feel they still have some more to give.

  • A classic U2 song!!!

  • U2 are amazing. I love the intro to this vid, with the rippling image. Awesome.

  • Before they became "the Cause Band." Great song and video.

  • One of the best u2 songs still today.

  • Baile Ath Cliath!

    U2!

    Gra!

  • dont look to deep, this song is about bono's mother but it's still cool

  • Yes BonoVox I usually sing BAD and other great U2 songs in the car in my ghetto ass town where all they hear is hip hop and cRAP!

  • I try to sing this song I, I try to get in But I can't find the door The door is open You're standing there, you let me in. Gloria In te domine Gloria Exultate Oh, Lord, if I had anything, anything at all I'd give it to you.
  • This is probably one of U2's best songs...but not as good as BAD!!

  • I LOVE BAD!! That is one of my very favorites. It's very rare that a day goes by when I don't sing at least some of it around the house!

  • love this song

  • You gotta love that mullet too:)

  • 'boy' and 'october' are their greatest.

  • Yeah and "War" too! I will love "Like a Song..." til the day I die. "Gloria" is most definatly one of my favorites!!

  • I'm a huge U2 fan! I love their earlier stuff like this. There is no better band

  • One of the best songs of all-time.

  • you got that right!
