I think not. They're both pretty similar guitars with crappy equipment. Think the tone's the same or very close.

I am thinking about getting either a dean custom or a epiphone SG special.

No I didn't but they've got a very similar construction using the same materials and equipment so my guess is they're pretty similar in tone and other aspects.

I haven't play an SG either so I can't say if it's better or worse, but I think it's got better brigde (fixed) than this crappy Dean tremolo - I don't use it cause it detunes the strings completely everytime :(
