Well of course, it can't be denied that we all expected her to be a clown of a performer before she opened her mouth to sing, whether we want to admit it or not. We're just so drunk on stereotyping that it seems inevitable most of the time. I hope Susan Boyle's rise to public acknowledgment somehow lessens the harsh judgment we so easily give each other.
In fairness to that young lady, part of the fun (cruelty) of talent shows such as this, is not only watching talented people rise, but also seeing the inevitable train wrecks. Like most, that young lady had judged Susan and reacted in a behaviour that is encouraged on such shows; why else would the director have edited it in? None of us know that young lady, and to judge her character so cruelly based on a few seconds of video, is the equivalent to how Susan was judged, based on her looks.
