The majority of the Germans love Barack Obama and were enthousiastic when he was elected.
The problem with our old Angie is that there is nobody better to be elected instead in Germany... among our politicians there is nobody to inspire the people. I wish we had someone like Obama for Germany!
I agree to your last sentence. The German Government is fucked up, you americans can be lucky to have someone like Obama as your president. But after Bush, you really deserve this.
Germany loves Obama !!
We germans are not how everyone sees us.
The world wars are not our fault and that a lot of shit happened in the time of hitler, makes me dont want to be german but we can change what happened...
obama is all about image, his manager axelrod thinks that if he can make obama look presidential then he can be president. it is all smoke and mirrors.
Fox news and the GOP could care less if Obama wins, he is going to continue the big government, foreign intervention, loss of liberty policies that the Neo-CONS are so fond of.
The only choice we have in this election is if we get a Black person or a White person to take our liberty.
I beg you, if your thinking of voting for more Government power in either of these two, just stay home instead.
Just like Kerry was a strawman to help Bush win in 2004, in other words Kerry TRIED to run a losing campaign, the McCain meltdown is the strawman for changing parties in Washington.
Americans now KNOW that McSame is insane, and at least some of us know Palin is a front for Dominionist Theocrats, which is worse.
Brzezinski's quote basically says that Americans will swallow any stupid policy if it's bipartisan. Iraq. Bailout.
I wouldn't call one person (the chancellor of Germany) all of Germany. What the fuck does one chancellor know? 200,000 Germans showed up to see Obama, now that's closer to being Germany than one stupid chancellor. The whole fuckin' country of Germany would have showed up if there would have been enough room for them there. The FOX contributor (Charles Krauthhammer) is an expert on nothing and he looks like a fuckin' snake.
They don't mention, that the secretary of outward afairs , the major of Berlin and the Berlin senat were in favor of him speaking in front of the brandenburg gate. AND: There are rock concerts held there, soccer players are greeted there and so on, so why not someone who's running to be president and who's enormously popular here? FOX get it together!
Anyone else notice that when Obama speaks to a crowd, that he never looks forward, always either to the extreme left or to the extreme right and he turns his head very quickly
Isnt there any spectators important enough standing or sitting just ahead of him to speak to? Or perhaps he fears looking straight into the camera knowing that it picks up a persons expressions and eyes that could show a lack of truth behind the word
He shows no interest to about 60% of those there to hear him speak
John Mccain would like to give a speech in Berlin too, as the US President, so McCain says. But if the Americans, God forbid, elect him, and not Obama, he better not try to give an open air speech in Berlin, or any other European city for that matter, because people will not show up.
I agree with Charles. Obama never earned the right to speak at the gate, in fact, Obama would have been to "yellow" to take the stand Ronald Reagan took against the Cold War. Obama is a cut n run democrat who wanted a back drop.
JFK didn't give his "Ich bin ein Berliner"-speech in front of the Brandenburger Gate, but at the old West-Berliner city hall Schöneberg (that's why they named the square in front of that city hall John-F.-Kennedy-square).
Well I tell you that Mr Krauthammer is just right about what he was saying about the Symbol of Status the Brandenburger gate represents. I tell you a secret. Gemans are interestet in the upcomming election and their candidates. They´re mainly hopeful. They´re shocked aboutf what was happening in the past and waiting for the day Mr. current Presindent is finally leaving.
See, where Mrs. Merkel wants Mr Obama to speak? Right at the column of victory. At a place where a giant strret leads straight and direktly to the Brandenburger gate.
i don't know what's sadder; reading the ignorant, racist, islamophobic attitudes of many youtube viewers and responders or the attitudes of the german conservatives such as merkel if not racist, than certainly ignorant. she doesn't have to love him. but the least she could do is listen to him and respect him as she would any other diplomat
I'm not a fan of Merkel but that's wrong. If the candidate for German chancellorship goes to the US the only things he get is a photo with the President. No Videos! And definitly no videos in front of national symbols like the Statue of Liberty or the White House. And definitly no rallys there. He got the place in front of the Siegessäule which is an important monument, but not the sign of a national trauma like the Brandenburg Gate.
Asking for having a rally there didn't show great diplomacy.
I live in Germany. The opposition party in Germany is totally in favor of having Obama speak at the Brandenburger Tor. And so are many other Germans. I am in favor of it because idiotic German comedians and soccer stars spoke-joked-stood there. It would have actually been an honor to have him speak there. But Frau Merkel said no, oh well.
But whole vanity thing is totally silly, i mean, aren't we all somewhat vain?
It was not the opposition party, it was the SPD which is actually the governing party in the state of Berlin an the coalition party of Frau Merkel.
For the German government Obama can't be any more than a American senator with no merits for Germany whatsoever. So he can't expect to get any special treatment.
There are lots of Germans with the same opinion. The left-wing-idiots who attended are definitly not representative.
