please try instead to just have it sitting on your hand while you stand in a "statue of liberty" position. there is really no need at all to throw it.
from our experience (with over 5000 common swifts treated in the clinic), even though a swift might seem to be healthy or fully fledged (if you raised a young one by hand), often they might not "want" to take off. in this case just wait some more days and try it again.
