Hm many people here in Vienna want the same but I don't know. Last year we occupied all universities in Austria for several weeks and organised our own university in grassroot democratic collectives. It really is not easy. There is more motivation/discussion/thinking, but people are not forced to study hard without exams. Maybe in 50 years this could be achieved. For the moment, I think it is more important, to force the politians to provide free, good and independent education..

Today we have occupied one hall in Vienna as a warning and tomorrow we will block the european meeting of the education ministeries in Vienna celebrating "Bologna reform". Imagine if you will an ambulance, a mother in labor, a firetruck, a police officer responding to an emergency, a young hardworking american trying to get to an interview on time, a STUDENT trying to get to CLASS all stuck in traffic. This could be true of any protest anywhere, or for that matter, any large street gathering. If we planned our rallies around never inconveniencing anyone, then they would never happen.
@ManoftheBeret In the street there are alternate routes to take and protesters do plan them ahead. If you are stuck on a freeway that is not just an inconvenience, that could be a serious problem. Accidents happen but those are dealt with and usually leave a few lanes open, blocking both lanes is endangering and inconsiderate. No additional support will be gained from this because everybody will see these people as maniacs.

Nice job!!! You put my video to shame I must admit. I'm glad the police didn't erase your footage. I was afraid if I got arrested they would erase mine so I separated from the group early. Still managed to get hit with a billy club though ;)

Imagine if you will an ambulance, a mother in labor, a firetruck, a police officer responding to an emergency, a young hardworking american trying to get to an interview on time, a STUDENT trying to get to CLASS all stuck in traffic. I would plow through the crowd to visit a dying member in the hospital. These people are so full of themselves and their sense of moral self righteousness that I'm embarrassed to agree with them on an issue.

This could be true of any protest anywhere, or for that matter, any large street gathering. If we planned our rallies around never inconveniencing anyone, then they would never happen.

@ManoftheBeret In the street there are alternate routes to take and protesters do plan them ahead. If you are stuck on a freeway that is not just an inconvenience, that could be a serious problem. Accidents happen but those are dealt with and usually leave a few lanes open, blocking both lanes is endangering and inconsiderate. No additional support will be gained from this because everybody will see these people as maniacs.

My sentiments exactly. Most of them are children looking to dick around and preserve their own campus jobs. Entirely self interested. It's a shame that they have to sully academia for their giggles, especially since in the long run they're liable to do more hurt than help.

Great work, it is clear that he tries to ask the police how to act, however, he showed no credentials. I totally support the Protest to save public education, but I support the cops as I support the firemen and our public libraries, we are all in the same "public team". what is needed instead of pissing each other off is to sit down and agree on how to fix the economy analyzing the importance of "public services" for the well being of all.

Oh, I see. Maybe they should be protesting illegal immigrants, as they have gotten us into this mess. The California debt is closing in on $25B ... Illegal Immigrants cost $236B each year. The majority of illegal immigrants live in California. It would cost $216B to deport ALL illegals (not just in CA)... Does anyone else see a connection?

This is Berkeley...what AREN'T they protesting? They will protest over anything...it's completely stupid...the state of california is going bankrupt, and has to raise tuition...and instead of making SACRIFICES...which EVERYONE will have to do...they are throwing a temper tantrum...
