@helenathena It's a very tough move to do correctly though. To do it as much as Sergio, you need very good hand coordination so you don't just lag behind and miss the ball, or hit it fat. He releases that lag very well through the ball. Maybe he should lag his putter, considering the putter is his real weakpoint in his entire brilliant game.
It's a little hard to see here, but when he starts down from the backswing the club sort of gets left behind while the rest of him begins swinging. The clubhead catches up later (i.e., it was lagging behind) and rips through the ball at the last second.
He does it by cocking his wrists a little extra on the way down so that the club doesn't begin coming around with the rest of him.
I dont think he consciously increases his wrist hinge though. I think it comes from the pulling of the hips while mainaining soft hands on the club. Because he barely sets his wrists in the backswing, when he starts the downswing with his hips it allows him to increase the angle.
he does that for extra distance. he said in an interview that when he was a kid that he was always smaller so he wanted to hit it futher hence the lag
WOW THATS A LAG??? THAN I CAN LAG SOOOOO NASTY i mean holy shit im done with my swing and then the club moves LOL
