i really do not want to get in any sort of argument, but all you people bashing SeaWorld should go boycott a circus. circus animals have it awful! it makes these animals look like they have it absolutely perfect! circuses need to be everyone's main focus right now!
This doesn't relate to this particular video but... In some films that come to mind, for exampl 'Death Race' or recently "Hunger Games"
it is so outrageous and disgusting and difficult to imagine a world where we would put humans on display in such exploitive ways for our amusement (or to make a buck). Perhaps this sounds morbid, but I don't see any reason to believe that a future like that is far off. I can see the similarities in a business like Seaworld....
I truly believe he [the trainer] deserved MUCH worse than swallowing too much water. The trainer(s) understand the inherent risks involved with working with animals. To make animals perform for our amusement is SO 18th century. When the f**k are we going to put this kind of show in our past? How many trainers must die before the shows are finally banned? How much torture and/or cruelty must these mammals put up with before they simply lose their minds? How sad...
@iBike2Live Just a minor correction: the trainer didn't just swallow too much water. The video is very vague about it, probably to hide the severity of the case and end on a positive note, but the trainer was paralyzed from the waist down (which was one of his "several injuries" that "prevented him form working with whales again"). Outdated as these kinds of shows may be, I don't think we should wish that upon anybody.
@271207 ... If I choose to go ice climbing on a glacier, and I fall, slip and become paralyzed, is that not my choice? Didn't the Orca trainer CHOOSE to work with a known risk? Doesn't the Orca have the "right" to have some sort of free will; to do as he/she pleases? If a human is stupid enough (or brave enough, depending on one's perspective) to force them to do tricks for a living, then, yes of course the trainer gets EXACTLY what they deserve. That is the world we live in. That's life...
@iBike2Live Though I agree that he consciously put himself at a risk and certainly could have expected a tragic outcome, I respectfully disgree on the fact that he deserved it. Of course he chose this and of course he was well aware of the risk, but this does not define deserving. I don't cheer or go "oh well, sucks to be you" when a trainer is attacked by an orca, regardless of unjust captivity. I feel for both the animal and the human as they have both suffered an ill fate (the animal moreso).
Serves him right for riding on the back of another Orca. These animals should not be taught to perform tricks in captivity. They belong in the ocean. These cruel shows will continue as long as stupid people spend money to see them.
Notice the one orca changes direction to go directly under the other orca. 0:30 . . . . . I dont know if it was an accident on the orcas part but i still dont blame the /orca/killer whale/dolphin (not really a whale) And their not "beasts" Still glad the guys okay.
@OrcaWhaleLover98 He meant all animals, not just whales. And no Offence intended but I do think the footage in that video is staged. While I would Love to work with Orca's, I hate seeing them captive in a Tiny tank where they are obviously not happy from my point of view. The whale has to do these tricks repeatedly on a day to day basis. The trainer gets to go home while the poor Orca swims in a fishbowl. These animals were not created to be held captive and forced to do tricks like common dogs.
@XxTreetailxX - why in the hell woluld this be stagged? I dont think they want to hurt the other trainer let alone other orcas, what in ur right mind made u think this was staged, seriously.
@ALoveForOrcas I didn't say THIS video was staged -_- Jesus. I SAID "in the behind the scenes footage of The Believe Show DVD" Please do read next time.
imagine this everyday.....................A killer whale has to do these performances everyday or something like that till he or she dies........the animal must go crazy.
@smorales1021 Keiko, aka Free Willy, died in 2003. Dorsal fins collapse in the wild too, but it is common in captivity because they can not swim as fast or as far in order for the cartilage to continue standing up. Keiko also had 3 little spots on his chin that made him even more distinguishable :]
Animals are tormented and tortured daily by the human race for the enjoyment of sickoes who pay to watch. This trainer should have died (horribly) . No sympathy whatsoever . !!!!!
@mackfender Whilst I partially agree with you, I must say that the guy is only doing his job and shouldnt be the subject of your anger. The people who should are the ones who pluck whales out of the ocean and places them in fishbowls, causing their dorsal fins to fall over, making them look sick. All for the sake of making millions.
Well it wasnt like the whale intended to injure him, it was an accident. He was supposed to jump over the trainer, but the timing was wrong, shit happens. Not the whales fault at all.
I really think they should stop killer whale shows around the world just to entertain ppl. It's wrong why can't ppl just see them just as they are free? Any animal deserves to be free, it's a good thing to have Animal Rescue Centers to help injured one's but not to keep them 4ever. If they can't survive in the condition they are in put them down or if they can release them. It's that simple.
im happy the guy is alive and im happy seaworld can help the whales but the thing is maybe hey dont want to do this stuff so they dont focus on doing it
You're awesome. I don't even know you, but you're awesome. You say that you partially disagree with making the animals perform on command, but you're still really respectful about it. You're one of the few.
I have watched all of the "killer whale attacks" on you tube. Not "ONE" of them, are of an Orca attacking a person. They are getting frisky and letting off some steam. But to us, it ends up like playing tag with a semi-truck on the freeway. Watch an Orca killing a seal, by taking it off a beach and you will see what I mean.
fuck you animal lovin bastards if you gonna gripe for whales do it for dogs and cats and everything man has made into pets because no animals was born that way.fucker.
I think i remember this guy from my old job he came into the trama unit back in the late 1980s as i remember he had broken ribs and a collapsed lung . I remember we put the chest tube in him and it sounded like a coke cand being opened he was in bad shape for a long time ..
This isn't Believe, you didn't spell "believe" correctly in the title, you stole the clip from a website. On top of that your website is probably using paypal for some kind of scam.
The whale jumping out of the water was part of the show, but it didn't go over the other whale as planned. The whale was actually unhealthy and partially blind but this information wasn't disclosed to the trainer.
clearly there is so much that we don't know about these animals, and the politics and corruption that go on behind the show business. I bet that trainer "accidentally" got hit because he refused to follow orders.
@X0XemmaleeX0X i thought the same thing; i used to work there & it looks like tili, but they only used him in shows for splashing so this seems off...

i would never go to seaworld! love is only in the humans mind fair enough it's not the trainers fault but i vehemently feel they should be free in a natural environment
I respect your opinion, and to some extent agree (:
All animals should be free, especially a wild animal that can travel up to 100 miles a day, but you have got to remember that many of these wales have been born in captivity and know no different or have been bought from other marine parks. They are stimulated frequently, fed and given vetinary treatment whenever needed, so it's not a cruel life, however very unatural. I'm sure in the not so distant future, we will see these animals free again
yes i suppose 'cruel' was a bit over the top word to use! i agree they are treated to the best of their trainers ability, times and tastes change though and circuses don't get nowhere near the capacities they used,,,
Seriously, trying to train these massive creatures may seem fun, but they are so big and powerful that a mistake by one can lead to humans getting hurt badly..
I feel sorry for these animals. Normally they're traveling thousands of miles in the free ocean and here he's supposed to be 'happy' in a swimming pool. Sad...
Thats like comparing salt to pepper. Two completely different species with different needs. If you were to compare a whale and me, then you could put me in a house, with all the food I could eat. People to love me and give me attention all the time. These whales get exercise, fun, food, and attention. I think if I was guaranteed that I would be set for life.
@MrPB1971 I heard after the attack they beat the SHIT out of that stupid wale.
LOL
it's all bruised now & probably wonders what the heck hit it (they used special metal rods made for beating wales & sharks in captivity for punishment)
He wasn't killed and was not paralyzed. However, his back was broken severely and he incurred several other injuries.
At the time of this tragic accident he was very active and athletic. Unfortunately, his mobility and flexibility were understandably limited for many years.
Nevertheless, his life goes on and he reflects on his whale training experience at Sea World in San Diego and his incredible interaction with the Orcas with great affection.
I think what people dont get is - While there is lots o killer whales, their conservation status is fine. But things like tigers, especially white ones must be kept in captivity as arsehole hunters have hunted them to near extinction. Captivity, im afraid to say, is a neccessary sometimes evil.
Thank you, i wish there was more comments like that. Its annoys me when you hear thick people coming up with pathetic excuses to justify their entertainment. They are wild animals, they need to practice how to hunt, kill, thats what they do ..they kill whales ..hence "killer whales" . Thats killing instinct never goes and it comes about to the surface every now and again.
I bet who owns Sea world, these business men slap a big cheque and they silent the "noise" .
This video was stolen to use to sell discount tickets. Sounds like a National Geographic special. These whales are extremely intelligent and this whale knows exactly what it is doing. Not to mention orcas work in teams so, they both had this planned perfectly. Maybe this "Fun and happy " trainer hurt the orcas or held off feeding them. They know more of what is going on more than the brainwashed trainers using them to make a living.
Sea World takes good care of them. They always have enough food and the right water temperature. And orcas are sensitive to emotions, like dogs and cats and other animals. They love the energy from the crowd at the shows. They're far from unhappy. The whale just jumped in the same spot the trainer was in. They're still wild animals and you have to be careful though.
Are you stupid? They are unhappy. Would you like to be taken from your home and forced to learn tricks? Not to mention that the tank is MINISCULE. This is animal abuse, plain and simple.
ahahah if keep watching its funnny

I'd say they're pretty happy. They don't have to hunt for food and they get love and attention 24/7. They've got it "so" tough.
avidgolfer08 2 years ago
Really though, I'd have to agree with you on that one..
andip666 2 years ago
@avidgolfer08 Go sit in your bedroom for about 12 years. When you come out, lemme know how you liked it.
glocker8888 2 years ago 2
Thats like comparing salt to pepper. Two completely different species with different needs. If you were to compare a whale and me, then you could put me in a house, with all the food I could eat. People to love me and give me attention all the time. These whales get exercise, fun, food, and attention. I think if I was guaranteed that I would be set for life.
avidgolfer08 2 years ago
@MrPB1971 I heard after the attack they beat the SHIT out of that stupid wale.
LOL
it's all bruised now & probably wonders what the heck hit it (they used special metal rods made for beating wales & sharks in captivity for punishment)

The MMC survey from the University of California
discovered that more than half of marine mammal
workers had been injured by the animals ( 251 cases ). Those in
regular contact with marine mammals or involved with
cleaning and repairing enclosures were more likely to
be injured. Naomi A. Rose PhD-2006
metridium 2 years ago 12
52% of respondents reported marine-mammal-inflict-
ed injuries, 89% of injuries to hands, feet, arms,
or legs; 8% on the torso/abdomen; 4%
on the face. 30%+ injuries were severe (90
cases) either a deep wound requiring stitches, or a
fracture. Contact more than 50
days a year with enclosed marine mammals were several times
more likely to suffer a traumatic injury. Assessment
of the risk of zoonotic disease transmission to marine mammal
workers and the public. Naomi A. Rose PhD -2009

He remains a friend of mine for over 25 years.

You Cannot Tame The Wild

'To deny liberty to a wild animal involves the diminishing of that animal's life. It is an
inherent characteristic of wild things to be free.. in almost all cases, the denial of this
inherent characteristic involves stress, frustration, anxiety and even aggression.'
(Professor Andrew Linzey, Animal Theologian, Oxford University 1987)

FreeKuTheOrca 2 years ago
Sea World takes good care of them. They always have enough food and the right water temperature. And orcas are sensitive to emotions, like dogs and cats and other animals. They love the energy from the crowd at the shows. They're far from unhappy. The whale just jumped in the same spot the trainer was in. They're still wild animals and you have to be careful though.
LadyWindjammer 2 years ago 2
best place for wild animals is in the wild, there's like a clue in the name.
DPTG23 2 years ago 4
Are you stupid? They are unhappy. Would you like to be taken from your home and forced to learn tricks? Not to mention that the tank is MINISCULE. This is animal abuse, plain and simple.
