I can recommend the books, ive only read 30 pages in Emma, but 'tis quite interesting... I wish someone would write the film into a book... that book would be even more adorable than the film...
I agree. I Saw it last week when it only opened in limited release and then today where its showing in all other theatres. I know Im gonna go spend another 20 bucks just to watch it again. This movie was adorable. :)
It looks a lot like Pride and Prejudice? Funny that you should say that, because Jane based the character of Mr. Darcy off of Tom, the man who she was in love with. So perhaps it should be that Pride and Prejudice looks more like Becoming Jane?

No, trust me, what you say, DOES make sense. However, I'm talking about the technical aspects such as camera angles, and lines that weren't in the book. Such as the love line "I'm yours heart and soul!" being too similar to the 05, that wasn't in the book "You have bewitched me body and soul.."
And as to the comments of Anne Hathway playing Jane Austen and portraying her as a ninny-brained woman...well...wise people can be quite crazy. Following your heart can bring wisdom through mistakes and consequences. ::Shrugs:: this is just my opinion.
I totally agree! This looks too similar to the AMAZING P&P from 2005. Even though James McAvoy is gorgeous, I think I'll wait until this comes out on dvd.
Also, it looks misleading, in that scene where Jane and the other guy are going upstairs looks like they are about to do it! Jane Austen would never do that!
Even though I'm pro-Keira Knightley. LOL. (Though Jennifer Ehle is a good actress and would fit Jane Austen well), I'll have to say, I also did not like the Becoming Jane trailer. Many of the scenes look too similar to the 2005 Pride and Prejudice. For example, the dancing, and the "I'm yours heart and soul!" is too similar to the 05 "You have bewitched me body and soul". In my opinion this is a cheap copy of 05 P&P since they saw it, liked it, and thought, lets make a copy of it!

Isn't that what trailers are for? To show a preview of what you are going to watch on the movie? It looks like the first half of the movie is going to be good (judging from the first minute) but the second part (second minute) looks bad. It DOES look like they make Jane Austen kind of follow-my-heart-forget-about-brain by the line "Affection is desirable, money is absolutely indispensable." And, isn't the guy's family that separates Jane from him, not the other way around?
Wasn't Jane Austen supposed to be smart, cleaver, and full of wit? She did advice the follow-your-heart thing, with Lizzie Bennet, but she also adviced against it, with Marianne Dashwood.

I saw the movie. The guy is really good, but Anne, oh god, she is just soo not for the role. It is not a role for her.

plus, considering i am a harry potter maniac, having julie walters AND maggie smith in one movie other than hp?! HEAVEN!
