Wasn't a huge fan of the movie when I first saw it in the cinema. But when I saw it again, I really liked it. Plus, the directors cut is far better. Proof that its important that you give a film a chance now and again.
I saw the film first, which I liked, and later read the comics. Both are great, though the comic is better, considering the awesome artwork by Dave Gibbons, which isn't as noticeable in the movie, which only focused on Alan Moore's plot.
I think the point Alan Moore makes with each character is almost the absurdity of these characters being real. Nightowl, clearly batman. Rorschach i would say shares more similarities with Batman, then Nightowl. In his vengeance fuel vigilante.
Watchmen is one of the most boring movies I have ever seen. If I were forced to watch paint dry, it'd be more interesting, more rewarding and more creative.
@Lessdeth14@oneminutetomidknight Very harsh. I'm not a reader of the comic books, but in my opinion it is a great film :) I respect your opinions however!
Comics and movies have a different standard of what's good to every other medium.
Whereas movies and books take every relevent aspect into account, comics are based on two ideas:
Is it dark? Is it pretentious? If you can check off both, it's a masterpiece. That's why the book is ass. It's silly, ugly, poorly plotted, and it rambles on and on about tossed-in elements that contribute nothing to the book. I hope the movie totally killed its limelight.
Idiots. Watchmen was a great, but not perfect, translation from the graphic novel. They even critise Synder for being too true to the book!!?! In truth its just too complicated for most people, but its an amazing film. Can't wait for the special edition!
@belasco1 no as a massive fan of Moore (and people dont realise watchmen is not nearly his best work) and someone who doesnt think film adaptions of comic books are intrinsically bad (ghostworld being a brilliant example of why they arent), Watchmen was poor.
it was a mess and rather campy, to the extent when i saw it witrh a friend we burst out laughing at points.
shows how unfilmable watchmen is and serves to just show how good and complex and utterly form centric the comic is
Adam mars-Jones obviously hasn't read the graphic novel as he would know that Rorschac's mask isn't a supernatural power but it is an invention created by Hollis Mason (Nite Owl 1). Yeah, Nite Owl 2 is supposed to be a parody of Batman too, don't these people do their research properly first? lol.
LOLOLOL, Adam Mars-Jones criticizes the similarity between Nite Owl and Batman! That's the whole point of Nite Owl! Watchmen shows us what superheroes like Batman would be like if they lived in a darker, more realistic world.
Idiots, these people are in an echo chamber all trying to describe the same position of not getting something new and interesting, wait until everyone agrees that it's good so you can join the next kitsch crowd.
no, because it's so much smarter just to let 20th Century Fox fuck up another franchise by focusing more on the marketing and less on creating a decent product.Right dip shit?
*dipshit* yeh thanks for that mate, very diplomatic of you...
as for your piss poor argument, i wasn't arguing that Michael Bay or some other studio hack be given the reins - that would be even worse - just that someone with proper filmmaking ability like Christopher Nolan or Terry Gilliam make it, not wanky little fuck up Zach Snyder who couldn't direct traffic
Lol if your talking about the theatrical version; i see what you mean but; you should watch the Director's Cut because I watched last night and it was a totally different experience than the Theatrical version. Director's Cut had a much, much better pacing and the charters felt complete at the end. Even Laurie felt like a character rather than eye-candy. I think they should have let the Director's Cut go to the Theaters. But; check it out if you haven't seen it.

@MrEmpirical I felt Batman was just as dark as Watchmen and I don't think realism is an element in either of the movies.
