@wese3000 Yea, but a major factor is this would have a bit more range and would take less training to learn a standard bow. As you know it takes years to training to be reliable lethal over a long period of time in battle.

But they do test it compared to a world class archer near the end of the show to compare that problem. (though you may have seen that by now. So my post was useless.)

@nman981 I think this narrator fits much better in Mythbusters, he has a wonderfully sarcastic tone in his voice that works so well with Adam and Jamie - the American narrator sounds too kind and and almost smarmy in a way, like he's talking to children or something.

This British narrator is more like "lol fine, let's do this then".

In the greek war the Peltast was more common.(Peltast=light infantry)

With Javelin or Stone slings.

The Stone slings was just easier to use than a bow, and pretty deadly with stone or lead bullets.

When the roman empire fighted the Huns they adopted the composite bow.

Think the composite bow was between 70 -100, lb.

To be fair to the greeks.. This was long before british long bows were invented. Good bows took over a year to make, and generally a lot of of bows used in wars back then were pretty much just slapped together. Once bow technology improved a lot as it did overtime this machine is pretty well pointless, but at the time period it was made in. It would bring far superior fire power. Though, i'd probably only put it on boats, and fortifications rather then dragging it along in the field.

That's how fast English long bowmen were firing at the French at the battles of Crecy and Agincourt with no special equipment at all.
