Nice job, especially seat/tail, great to see one again. I bought one new in '78 to follow the GS 750 I'd bought the year before; added Weisco big bore kit, Yosh cams and pipe & drag bars. Very fast bike in it's day. At age 58, riding a modded ZX-14 today. Thanks for posting. Have fun!
@McKloogz It should be worth the same as a Kawasaki Z1900/1000 from around the same year. A "Skunk"gas tank just like this bike has was sold on ebay recently for $600... In Norway bikes like these go for 10-15k and more. These are special interest bikes like early CB750, CBX1000, Z1900, H2750, GS750&1000. The latter ones are often unrestored and fetch lower prices, but the other ones have similar prices unrestored so they should fetch the same when restored. Newer shafties are much cheaper.
Beautiful bike! I have been thinking about shortening the seat on my 81 GS850G. Maybe not quite as much as you did so a passenger can still ride but I like the look of what you did. Very nice!
bought one of those new in early 1979 as a left over from a dealership in Nashua, NH. Sold it in 1981 to help pay for college. wish I still had it. since then I have had a 1980 KZ1000 and a 1989 FJ1200 and that old suzuki was still more bang for the buck than the others.
I am planning to buy and transform a GS1000 to a café racer as well. Could you help me with the source and application of the tailpeace pls? Thanks and congratulations! All you need is a clubman's now! ;-)
i made my own seat pan and seat, i cut off the back section of the tail and welded a new mounting plate for the tail light section. exhaust is stock, but cut off right at the first baffle plate. tank is stock, suspension is stock. handle bars are from a 76 kawa enduro, and shortened by 4 inches. the only thing i purchased to make it what it is now, was the mold resistant foam and pleather from hobby lobby. thanks for all the comments. :)
he with the most money doesnt always win. tuff bike. I got an 83 gs 1100 gl ive ripped everything off starting from scratch. you had any charging proplems
I bought a wrecked '78 GS1K in 1984.. Black like yours, but without the smoke.. 1st 6 months, I had no gauges.. After getting gauges, I couldn't believe I'd been going 60 MPH in 1st gear-with 4 more gears to go. Used to ride down freeway for hours at 110 MPH with Plexifairing on front, Gfriend on back... Awesome bike.. txk for sharing
You should put on some clubman bars, or clip ons... And a smaller set of gauges and call it done. A half fairing might look nice too, but not needed haha. Sick bike dude.
i like my motocross bars, i dont like the half fairings, the gauges are ok for me :). thanks for the comment, i probably wont do anymore changes to it.
yea i like it, my 95 yzf600 will take it after about 80mph.. but the old suzuki can top out the speedo, not sure how accurate the 140mph speedo is.. lol.. thanks for the comment.
