Those weren't even direct matchups, so you can't really say "pierce kinda clowned lebron and kobe". Pierce is the result of having Garnett on the inside and Ray on the outside taking up defenders last year. And you could say hes better than ray, but it's really close and if you want to talk abou this series, Ray has been better than pierce hands down. And Pierce is not even close to being better than KG. You must be crazy if you think that.

What????? What series were you watching??? Posey was guarding Lebron the entire series. Ray sucked against the hawks and Pierce stepped up agains the hawks, not really saying much there. And KG's presence down low is all it takes to free up the rest of the team. This series, he only stepped up in Game 5 with the big shots at the end, but Rondo and Ray have clearly carried the celtics in this series.
Posey played a lot of mins in that series. I would have to go look it up to see who was guarding Lebron when Posey wasn't, but I would guess from memory that Posey guarded Lebron the majority of the time. Lebron struggled in that series and if he struggles, the cavs have nobody else. This year, Mo Williams can pick up the slack, but last year, cavs had no shot with Lebron playing inconsistent.

Wow, my bad. I just found some videos on youtube showing footage of the series and ya, Pierce and Lebron pretty much guarded each other most of the series. Posey guarded Leborn when he was in the game, but Pierce was on him for the most part. But I also note that the Celtics doubled Lebron everytime he touched the ball. Pierce was strictly guarded man to man with no help.
I don't know about that. Pierce was rarely doubled, if at all. Look at the end of game 5 when Pierce made those big shots at the end, he was single guarded. If the bulls were doubling pierce, that would of been the time to do it, but they didn't.
And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Pierce is a bad player, I'm just saying that he's not a top 5 player that some think he is. I'm saying his recent success has been largely the result of KG and Ray.

It happens like 80% of the time on screens. Doubling the roll guy and having another defender come over and pick up the pick guy is one of the most effective ways to defend the screen. Nearly every NBA team runs that scheme to defend the screen. And yes, I do hate Boston, but I can honestly say that my agenda against boston has absolutely no effect on my opinion that Pierce is not a top 5 NBA player.
And you can't compare the Kobe/Shaq to the pierce situation because 1) Kobe and Pierce are not even comparable in regards to talent and skill level and 2) Kobe only had Shaq with a decent PG in fisher. On the other hand, Pierce had 2 great players in KG and Allen, and also a emerging Rondo.

KG had absolutely nobody in Minnesota. He was a one-man show in Minnesota and still led them to the playoffs single-handedly multiple times. KG won the league MVP in 04. Pierce had Antoine Walker when he got to the Eastern Conference Finals in 02. But that's besides the point. Pierce is simply not a top 5 NBA player and I've still yet to hear a legitimate case to prove that he is. And Rondo had one really good series, you can't say he's all of a sudden a top 3 point guard. That's absurd.
Lebron, Kobe, and Wade are the only ones I can think of. KG has never proven to be clutch. Duncan is debatable because Pierce is better offensively but not as good defensively.

A best player list is very objective and it's all on the discretion of who writes it, so it's tough to argue it. Ya howard is just a dunker, but he still averages 20 ppg. Howard is also a better defender and a better rebounder. Pierce may be a slightly better scorer, but Howard is still a better all around player than Pierce. He's not better than Williams because of Deron gives you the extra element of distributing the ball. Pierce could never legitimately be looked at as a top 5 NBA player because he doesn't do much outside of scoring. He doesn't rebound, doesn't rack up assists, and is a decent defender.
All three have levels of what they are good at. Paul has his mid range, Ray has his long range, and Kevin has his close range, so don't go bitching on something you don't know.

Those weren't even direct matchups, so you can't really say "pierce kinda clowned lebron and kobe". Pierce is the result of having Garnett on the inside and Ray on the outside taking up defenders last year. And you could say hes better than ray, but it's really close and if you want to talk abou this series, Ray has been better than pierce hands down. And Pierce is not even close to being better than KG. You must be crazy if you think that.

What????? What series were you watching??? Posey was guarding Lebron the entire series. Ray sucked against the hawks and Pierce stepped up agains the hawks, not really saying much there. And KG's presence down low is all it takes to free up the rest of the team. This series, he only stepped up in Game 5 with the big shots at the end, but Rondo and Ray have clearly carried the celtics in this series.

Posey played a lot of mins in that series. I would have to go look it up to see who was guarding Lebron when Posey wasn't, but I would guess from memory that Posey guarded Lebron the majority of the time. Lebron struggled in that series and if he struggles, the cavs have nobody else. This year, Mo Williams can pick up the slack, but last year, cavs had no shot with Lebron playing inconsistent.

Wow, my bad. I just found some videos on youtube showing footage of the series and ya, Pierce and Lebron pretty much guarded each other most of the series. Posey guarded Leborn when he was in the game, but Pierce was on him for the most part. But I also note that the Celtics doubled Lebron everytime he touched the ball. Pierce was strictly guarded man to man with no help.

I don't know about that. Pierce was rarely doubled, if at all. Look at the end of game 5 when Pierce made those big shots at the end, he was single guarded. If the bulls were doubling pierce, that would of been the time to do it, but they didn't.
And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Pierce is a bad player, I'm just saying that he's not a top 5 player that some think he is. I'm saying his recent success has been largely the result of KG and Ray.

LOL. That's not a true double team. Almost every team uses the "double the ball after screen" to defend the screen. Teams double the roll guy and have another defender roll over and defend the screener cutting to the basket. That's just a simple defense tactic to defend the screen. If you think that's doubling teaming like teams double Kobe or Lebron, then you obviously know nothing about simple basketball tactics.

Comparing that to a guy getting doubled on a screen is just ridiculous. And no, I'm not a laker, cavs, or bulls fan. Being from NY, I root for the local teams Nets and Knicks(sadly lol). I give Pierce all the credit in the world for stepping up last year, but that's not hard to do when you have 2 perennial stars in KG and Allen playing by your side

It happens like 80% of the time on screens. Doubling the roll guy and having another defender come over and pick up the pick guy is one of the most effective ways to defend the screen. Nearly every NBA team runs that scheme to defend the screen. And yes, I do hate Boston, but I can honestly say that my agenda against boston has absolutely no effect on my opinion that Pierce is not a top 5 NBA player.

And you can't compare the Kobe/Shaq to the pierce situation because 1) Kobe and Pierce are not even comparable in regards to talent and skill level and 2) Kobe only had Shaq with a decent PG in fisher. On the other hand, Pierce had 2 great players in KG and Allen, and also a emerging Rondo.

Look at what he did for his team before KG and Ray. I think the best he did was one year when he made it to the eastern conference finals, but that's about it. In one year with KG and Ray, he has already won a title and has now advanced to the second round of the playoffs in the second year with the Big 3. Note:Big 3 without KG this time, but Rondo has stepped up big time in the playoffs so far.

KG had absolutely nobody in Minnesota. He was a one-man show in Minnesota and still led them to the playoffs single-handedly multiple times. KG won the league MVP in 04. Pierce had Antoine Walker when he got to the Eastern Conference Finals in 02. But that's besides the point. Pierce is simply not a top 5 NBA player and I've still yet to hear a legitimate case to prove that he is. And Rondo had one really good series, you can't say he's all of a sudden a top 3 point guard. That's absurd.

What do you mean by clutch? Do you mean performing in big games or are you strictly speaking about last second shots? If your talking about performing in big games, nobody has done that better than Tim Duncan(except of course Jordan). Pierce is clutch, but I would rather see Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Robert Horry, or Duncan with the ball with the last shot before I give the ball to Pierce.

I agree with everything you said except that Tim Duncan IS one of the best clutch players of the decade...It doesn't even matter if he takes the last shot or not (he would do it if teams didn't double him every single possesion), the fact is he does everything for his team during crunch tima, that includes rebounds, defense, etc...

Oh yeah, I know Duncan is clutch, especially for a PF. That 3-pointer last year in the playoffs was surprising too. But in terms of taking the last shot, of course Pierce before Duncan, but Duncan before most of the NBA though.

A best player list is very objective and it's all on the discretion of who writes it, so it's tough to argue it. I agree Rondo has a great series so far, but it's only one series and let's keep off judgment until he does this consistenly for an entire season. Ya howard is just a dunker, but he still averages 20 ppg. Howard is also a better defender and a better rebounder. Pierce may be a slightly better scorer, but Howard is still a better all around player than Pierce. He's not better than Williams because of Deron gives you the extra element of distributing the ball. Pierce could never legitimately be looked at as a top 5 NBA player because he doesn't do much outside of scoring. He doesn't rebound, doesn't rack up assists, and is a decent defender.
